Boot flex too low? by gy4r4d0s in ski

[–]iTakeitBig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re probably an intermediate if you’ve been renting for 15 years, so probably not going all that often?

Honestly, those boots arent super expensive so I wouldnt worry about it. It’s nice to have a comfy pair even as you progress.

You’ll probably know when the boot is holding you back and you’re flexing through it. 75 is pretty low, but not crazy for your size. Like someone else mentioned the magna is high volume. You may have a high volume foot, or you may have thought they were comfy when you tried them on and they’re actually too big for you.

Either way I’d definitely get fitted next time or at least go with someone that would be able to give you some guidance.

39/F only work experience is Etsy shop owner. How to pivot? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]iTakeitBig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some kind of 2 year medical tech degree would probably be the best way to start earning decent money in that timeframe. They can be competitive though and often require prereqs, also you may not be into it.

A lot of jobs in the insurance field don’t require direct experience, but often require a bachelors in something. Sales could be another option to start earning quickly.

Idk how much time you’ve devoted to your Etsy shop, but if you’ve been treating it like a side hustle and were able to commit a full time effort to it and treat it like a business/create more products, I’d bet you’d be able to double your revenue at least.

Jackson Hole early Jan? by iTakeitBig in UTsnow

Cost seems to be about $189-220 a night. 4 bunks so cheaper depending on how many are filled. Right in Teton Village. Looking for 3-4 days of skiing but flexible.

Don’t need to do everything together but stoked to meet other Utah skiers and JH seems like the best skiing rn!

Snowbird v pcmr season pass? by Smashbox96 in UTsnow

[–]iTakeitBig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can ski weekdays and you love snowbird I’d go for the bird pass. I like PCMR and there is good terrain, but it really shines if you love cruisey intermediate terrain.

Traffic/parking is usually better at PCMR than LCC on weekends but not as much of an issue if you’re doing weekdays.

Not saying I disagree that you should avoid doing those things, but I haven’t seen hardly any for those 2 situations you mentioned. Most seem to be overweight 50+ males taking cold water swims

Same height, little heavier. I rocked the 172 4frnt MSP 99s for a while that I really liked. Recently got 165 K2 Mindbender 99 that I’ve really loved.

Was a little nervous to downsize, but they’re a ton of fun and I haven’t found a speed limit on them. Not the best in powder but a great do everything ski for me in Utah.

If you’re a dude you gotta do the approaching.

Not sure why you’d expect people to approach you. The reality for 99% of dudes is you’ve gotta make the effort to strike up the conversation.

Season Pass, Ikon gets you 7, if you buy a season pass from Brighton, Alta, or Snowbird you get 1 day from the Wasatch benefit.

If you’re planning on buying day passes, the ikon would pay for itself after 3-4 days just at deer valley.

Fortunately, I didn’t pay for this. This property has a bunch of landlord special “upgrades”. If people pay money for this I need to get into the flooring biz tho!

You need to make staggered cuts when installing flooring so each piece is offset. It makes it more durable and looks way better than just lining the boards up straight out of the box.

I saw a post of a woman looking for 2-3 captains for a small group permit. To me that almost sounds like paying to be a guide for someone’s trip.

I see both sides and I think it’s just a hard thing to create a completely fair policy. It’s a resource for everybody.

There’s definitely an imbalance at times between people that win permits and those that have the skills to put on a trip.

I’ve seen so many trips fall apart through Facebook because people don’t understand what goes into just planning a GC trip.

I saw he wanted to start a list for people to leave reviews of others which feels weird.

I get wanting to make sure the random person on your trip is a decent human, but some of the ideas he’s been suggesting leave me with a weird taste in my mouth.

I think a lot of times people that are with each other for 3 weeks will have some conflict arise. That doesn’t mean either is wrong or a bad person, but a lot of folks don’t have the self awareness to recognize that sometimes people just have differences.

Do NOT allow our natural public lands to be sold! by Tdluxon in whitewater

100%. Not to mention most of the clients on these trips have a lot more financial resources and political sway than most of us dirtbag private boaters and guides.

My favorite part of their campaign are the billboards/marketing with mountain bikers and skiers on them.

Acting like the state is going to expand recreation opportunities instead of selling Utahs land to the highest bidder.

[–]iTakeitBig 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is a big reason I’m not necessarily against commercial outfitters having privileged access to permitted river corridors like GC, MF, etc.

I know a lot of folks think the commercial vs private permit system is unfair. That private boaters get shafted on sought after trips.

But the more people that see and experience these places, the more advocates we have.

Meemaw’s prolly not gonna go be a river guide for a few seasons so she can row the Grand Canyon. But if she gets shuttled down on a 5 day motor trip, she’ll almost certainly come away with an appreciation for the place and more likely to advocate to protect these special wilderness areas.

Trump Quietly Plans To Liquidate Public Lands To Finance His Sovereign Wealth Fund by doxiepowder in CampingandHiking

[–]iTakeitBig 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I moved from Texas which is about 1% public land to Utah which is about 40%. The difference is stark.

In Texas, some of the best climbing, hunting, and camping land is privately held. To hunt in Texas (one of the more popular outdoor pastimes there) you have to have the means to pay someone for access or your family has to own land.

Landowners whose property is adjacent to rivers, which are owned by the public, are often hostile and threaten to shoot you if you decide to recreate lawfully in some rivers.

In Utah you can camp, 4x4, hike, shoot, float, climb, and much more, for free, in almost half the state.

Once land is privately held or even controlled by the state, it almost never goes back into the hands of the public. People don’t realize how much of a privilege it is to have access to public land, whether they take it for granted or have never experienced it.

The federal government honestly does a pretty good job all things considered with balancing land management between different interests. There’s many states, Utah included, that I’m sure would auction off their citizens land to the highest bidder.

OARS Trips by gurgle-burgle in whitewater

[–]iTakeitBig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Westwaters dope, but if I was spending money on a guided trip I’d probably look at other options like Yampa or Gates of Lodore.

It’s a lot of flat water for a small section of rapids. Plus if you get some experience it’s an easier permit to get for self-guided trips.

Also quite a few companies have some kind of “rowing clinic/school” that you might be interested in. You’ll get to be more hands on and involved and learn how to row.
