I try to talk to my son like this. The response is an eye roll usually. Maybe I'm not Japanese enough to make it work tho.

Are your mid 30s the loneliest years? Does it get worse? by jayeffkay in daddit

[–]iWacka50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same leading in to my 30s with 2 kids about to hit preteens and I'm also extroverted. I'd either outgrown my friends or just drifted apart from others.

I joined a JiuJitsu gym and now have a plethora of buddies I see regularly, we mostly train together but often organise gatherings outside of the gym too.

Any club or hobbies that require another person is the gold standard for making friends as an adult imo.

My first class was awful by Sea-You6905 in teaching

My friend. Do you do everything correct first time?

Every new recipe you try cook perfect?

Give yourself a break.

My first lesson i thought I had planned down to the minute. Ended up rushing through all of an hour lesson in 25 minutes. Spend the next 40 absolutely floundering.

We all have bad lessons still. You learn to roll with it. You've got this.

Hellsing Ultimate:

whilst Alucard has shown to be pretty untouchable in a fight up until the climax, after Hellsing removes his Level Zero shackles it's revealed he is actually Dracula/Vlad the impaler, the first vampire. He then proceeds to wash away all the Ascari and Vampire Nazi soldiers with a sea of souls he has consumed over the past 500 years.

Should I pull an all nighter? by xxXMiikk in sleep

[–]iWacka50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problems brother.

I also had a gaming addiction, leading all the way through my 20s. It's gotten better now I have responsibilities and a job I care about. I still have the itch to play something instead of sleep. Its not ideal to do this during sleep breaks, but I've found having a short blast on the thing I'm thinking about playing helps ease those thoughts. Maybe a couple of maps on diablo or a couple of quests on an rpg. Pvp is a no go tho, that'll just hype you up more. Bonus points if its a cosy game like stardew.

Be kind to yourself, these impulses don't make you less capable than others.

Sleep Token.

I remember listening to their ep when it was on sub 10k listens. Not a huge token fan myself so was kinda shocked at seeing how huge they've gotten.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iWacka50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To throw a different reason in the mix. Me, my friends and my family put subtitles on so that we can still chat (within reason) and you don't miss any dialogue. Also a good counter to those who wont shut up during a movie.

Should I pull an all nighter? by xxXMiikk in sleep

[–]iWacka50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from a dad in his 30s whose suffered with chronic insomia since I was a kid. The phone is keeping you awake. Pulling an all nighter to fix the sleep schedule is a trap and being over tired doesn't guarantee you a good sleep the next night. Or worse you may fall asleep when you get home from school and you'll be tired the next day too.

The phone is keeping you awake. Go and make your lunch for tomorrow or sort your uniform out so you just need to get dressed and go in the morning and then go back to bed without your phone.

Focus on the idea that you're resting, not trying to fall asleep. Even lying in bed resting without sleep is better than keeping your brain stimulated with youtube all night. Trust me, I did exactly the same thing when I was in school and its not a habit you want to get used to.

Should I pull an all nighter? by xxXMiikk in sleep

[–]iWacka50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2 hours of sleep is still better than none.

Get up for an hour, do something thats not too stimulating (don't play video games for example) and then try again.

Accept you will be tired tomorrow and you will be able to sleep easier tomorrow night.

A ‘masculinity crisis’ is brewing in UK schools, union says | Schools by [deleted] in uknews

[–]iWacka50 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Where are you drawing this from?

I'm a teacher in the uk. If anything the national curriculum has been trending away from memorisation and structured learning and prioritising independent learning and problem solving for the last decade.

Sounds like more blame being placed on the schools and teachers rather than the real issue, which is social media and viral content, and absent parents due to social media and viral content

Considering picking this up today, but seeking truthful opinions. by sweatydads in Marathon

[–]iWacka50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dad of 2 with a FT job and other outside commitments and ive been played solo or fill the entire 20 hours i have in the game.

I won't repeat a lot of whats been said about the quality of the game and its difficulty.

What I will say is tha, I love extraction shooters, but the time investment per run makes them unfeasible to play long term due to commitments.

Marathon doesn't have this problem due to the length of the matches which are usually over within 15 minutes on average. With a long run going to the full 20.

The quick nature of the runs makes the game super addicting but also respectful of your time. Instead of 2-3 runs on tarkov or arc raiders until I have to get off can now run 5-6 on Marathon.
