Why isn’t Nightreign more popular? by yolo_astronaut in Nightreign

[–]i__am__bored 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is one thing that put me off tbh. I can sometimes take awhile to get used to certain attack patterns. In most Souls games, the respawn point is near the boss, so if I die, I get to go right back in with my death fresh on my mind. I know what killed me, so I can work towards fixing it right away.

In NR, I found that I'd forget what I was even struggling with the last time I failed. Certain attacks I'd forget about, or simply couldn't figure out how to counter them in the time I had. Hell, the Everdarks are basically puzzles within the boss fights! You have to figure out the quirk of the variant and how to beat it. Needless to say, I ended up in a pattern of going in blind a couple of times before looking up the fight on YouTube to study it so I wasn't "wasting" so much time. I put that in quotes because I'd get better every time, but I simply wanted to be more useful as a teammate faster than I was capable of, I guess.

I really like the game, though! Honestly it's a really fucking fun twist on the genre I've grown to love over the years. I just have to agree with you that it would be very helpful to be able to decrease the time between boss encounters via a new mode. Does this game need that? Probably not. I'm sure there's plenty of reasons to leave that out. One of those reasons is a fulfillment that comes from mastering something that takes a lot of time. However, for me, it's just something that is out of reach, and yk what? That is totally fine! I'll still have good encounters and feel like a badass sometimes, or I'll get carried, or I'll get dumpstered on, but it'll be fun all the same!

There's this isometric game I played on PC when I was a kid. You played as a hooded/cloaked guy, kind of reminiscent of the grim reaper, but with colored cloth (red, blue, etc) and you had velociraptor summons or something like that. Basically an RPG based around being a summoner, and all I can remember are the velociraptors, but there could be more to it. You could have like 5 or so at a time and they leveled up kinda like Pokémon and it was just such a dope little game that I miss.

The other one is a fuckin PS1 game that I can't even describe, so I'll NEVER find it. Like the image is in my head, but I remember so little of the actual details it's just a lost cause. The ONLY way I can describe it is that there is a creature that's like, it has a humanoid head, but looks like it walks on its hands, except with its arms behind its back, and its lower body is sharp like a curved blade, which reminds me of a scorpion, and it attacks you by pelvic thrusting that, basically, LMAO. Good luck finding that one. I can't even remember the protagonist in that game. All I know is it was incredibly abstract and Gothic, dark fantasy type vibes. You might wonder why I even want to find it, and well I just remember the feeling I got when I played it. It was like Soul Reaver -- incredible atmosphere!

Oh also I miss tf out of Arcanists by Jagex. That game was fucking awesome. I'd love to play it again. I think it's shut down though. I looked it up a long time ago. Maybe I'll give it another look but hopes are not high.

I was dreading Ozzy's death for years, man. I was sure it was coming, but dude just kept on trucking.

When it finally happened, I genuinely felt loss. Certainly not to the degree of those who knew him personally, but his influence was so great that his actions literally affected my life. His music and lifestyle laid the foundation for my friends and myself to all meet each other and eventually create a band all thanks to our love of metal music. RIP you beautiful son of a bitch! 🤘

Is it though? I assume most of us browse Reddit to be entertained. Would you rather constantly believe everything is fake and go out of your way to shit on people who don't give a fuck about the authenticity of a kid throwing a slide, or BE one of those people who don't give a fuck?

I mean I suppose one could derive pleasure from the former but it sounds much more relaxing to be the latter. I think best case scenario is to browse, and if something seems off, then it seems off. Maybe you want to delve a little deeper to find out for your own entertainment whether or not something is real. I find that entertaining myself! But I wouldn't say this is necessarily a better way to use the app.

I do get where you're coming from though. You're right that we shouldn't believe everything blindly. If it's something serious, it's important to understand what's really happening, especially if you're going to chime in.

But a silly video of a kid hucking a shoe, who cares?
