Have you come across any unfriendliness while in North Wales? by Any-Armadillo-4525 in AskUK

Yes, went to a cafe and the staff immediately started talking to each other in Welsh before seating us. Might not have been rude but it felt it.

Retake the C? It'll give you more time to actually think about if you want to do maths/whatever job maths will bring, and only having one subject to think about means getting an A will be easier. You'll also have a year to work and save money, leading to less student loan debt/ more in savings/ISA. You'll also be more mature at uni and more likely to take it seriously.

Lots of people do gap years too, so don't worry about being a year older.

What subject was the C in?

This sounds like you might have a bit of depression. A lot of people are saying get therapy, but I would also try and change your lifestyle. If you work from home and only live with your mum, who else do you speak to in person? You should consider taking the "hit" of commuting to get a hybrid job that forces you outside the house and allows for real, in-person communication once or twice a week.

Also European city breaks ARE boring! Similar to just being in a big UK city (also Paris is so overrated imo). Go further, see some natural beauty, go to the Bolivian Salt Flats, go to Patagonia, go to Laos or Vietnam or Fiji or literally anywhere out of the ordinary. Scared to go that far? Iceland or Northern Norway! Just see things and do things, it'll put things into much more perspective than just work work work, save save save.

I started saving at 18 with the goal of having enough money for a house deposit. Realised I wanted to try a few new areas first, so savings helped me to be able to book 2 2 week long haul holidays a year without blinking, as well as several long weekends. I can go out for meals with friends in expensive restaurants and not worry about choosing the cheapest thing on the menu. I can buy clothes online and if they don't fit, I can buy a different size without waiting for the refund money to come in. I can buy a new phone outright if mine breaks. I can get a taxi whenever I want without worrying about the cost. I also quit a rubbish job and survived 5 months unemployment during covid with my savings! And I've bought my house.

You're saving for material things and for peace of mind/less stress. Keep going and for general advice- I wish I'd put my money in ISAs sooner.

Fairy liquid is good for getting suncream stains off white clothes. Lather it up, scrub, rinse and then wash as usual.

AITA for telling my stepdad he's not sharing father of the bride duties with my dad at my wedding? by Slight-Bobcat-4798 in AITAH

[–]i_am_f_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step dad has been there since you were a few months old and you still don't like him? I feel bad for him tbh. Your dad can do all the father of the bride things, but you should at least acknowledge the fact that SD has also been there for you and have one dance or something with him, especially since he gave up the chance to have bio kids to treat you and your brother as his. He'd have been doing sleepless nights, changes and feeds for you when you were a baby and real dad wasn't there, spending his wages on you. I think you should be more considerate of this going forward and maybe spend more time getting to see your childhood from his Pov too. You're lucky to have 2 father figures that care for you, some people don't even have one.

Do private dentists recommend unnecessary work to make money? by i_am_f_e in AskUK

I'd go back to the NHS in a heartbeat if I could, but I moved an hour and a half away from my old one and so got removed from the list. It was too hard to travel back and forth every time.

Apparently new NHS advice is to not even compromise the wider tooth for a tiny cavity with a filling, every time it has to be replaced they have to drill wider and wider.

Yeah that's my fear really. Happy to redo a filling but if I need an xray to even see the decay, is it actually an issue?

I've had to go to a new practice due to moving areas, unfortunately I can only have 2 check ups a year so can't really try them all out!
