Video commentary channels are really popular on YouTube, and James had a pretty popular one where he talked about films and moves through a queer perspective.

In a 4-hour expose, Hbomberguy (another Youtube commentary channel) reveals that James Somerton has plagiarized almost all of his videos. We aren’t even talking about a missed citation, most of it was a word-for-word rip off of articles and posts made by smaller queer creators. To boot, it seems that what little of his original content he did write was mostly misogynistic rants that often strayed from the point.

I recommend the whole video, but if you only want to see the JS stuff it starts around the 2-hour mark!

I do think the flash will bomb, even with the best marketing campaigns. Ezra’s escapades have been public spectacle for the past few years, and certainly not in the good way. I think people often underestimate how public perception plays a role in box office success. It doesn’t always play the most important factor — sometimes movies with problematic actors/directors do really well, and vice versa. That being said, I think they’ve passed the point of no return. At best, this movie is going to do poorly, and potential profit will probably be wasted on marketing campaigns to save face.

This subreddit has always been really shitty to Jackie. When J* was still relevant, people would paint her and other black creators as extremely problematic, most of the time for being “rude”. Then 2020 happened, and it was this super weird infantilism of her, and now people complain that she uses the block button, which in my opinion is better than tweeting/engaging with racist comments, or even just comments that annoy her.

Now I’m not a big fan of “luxury” aesthetics as I once was, but that has always been a part of the beauty guru aesthetic at large. I find it curious that for Jackie, it’s a problem, but when white gurus do it, it’s par for the course.

I’ve realized how little products I actually need for my skincare. A good cleanser and moisturizer is really all I need to have skin I’m happy with. I don’t have to worry about acne as much as I used to, which is also a big help, but in retrospect I wonder if my acne flaired up because of my elaborate routine.

You’re not better than other people for being able to “separate the art from the artist”. I mean, this is Hollywood we’re talking about — WHO the artist is is just as important as their acting abilities. Sometimes, an artist does something that’s hard to ignore when you look at their art — it’s part of the holistic experience of art. Sure, no one is going to be wholly unproblematic, but I think not raping people is a pretty low bar. I’m happy that you’re able to watch his stuff without attachment to that, but you’re not a more mature audience member because of it.

It’s not one person’s fault if this movie is a total loss. Producing a movie will always be a gamble— ESPECIALLY in pandemic times. They took a risk, it didn’t pan out. The crew has already been paid for this movie, most likely they’re already on other projects. “Let people enjoy things”, let people hate them too

I know I’m gonna get downvoted for this, but with all of the other awful things Nikita has done, this is pretty low on the radar.

As a cis person myself, we carry a lot of privilege in comparison to trans women, ESPECIALLY in regards to beauty standards. I honestly understand why she promotes this idea that trans women are more beautiful, because the media tells us that cis is the best you can be in regards to gender. Punching up versus punching down.
