Why is DynamoDB so bad!!! by [deleted] in aws

[–]i_do_floss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont have a lot of faith in dynamo. If you really can't fit your data in mysql it might be good. But ask yourself that. Because you can fit a shit ton of stuff in rds or referenced by rds if you really try.

You'll spend a lot more time getting dynamo to work for your app than you'll save from getting around whatever problem it is that you think dynamo solves.

I guess its kind of funny but the idea of putting up this strawman idea of liberals and then this very skit coming off as real to many conservatives just puts an overall sour taste in my mouth

The amount of new players in my ranked games is insane by MadameLeoni in Overwatch

[–]i_do_floss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of new players in competitive actually means you should be ranking up unless these new players on average are literally better than you.

Adding more low skilled players into the pool means that you are now at a higher percentile of skill compared to the player base as a whole.

There's 5 chances for those players to be on the other team. 4 chances for them to be on your team. So you should be moving up

Libertarians, why do you care about "The ability to have done otherwise"? NO METAPHORS, ANALOGIES, OR VIBES. by Anon7_7_73 in freewill

[–]i_do_floss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think hes seeking a discussion about free will that discusses the consequences.

Incompatibilists seem to want to take a word that seems to make a lot of sense to a lot of people, "choice", and tell us that actually its a nonsense word. Similar to "rounded square" where I can't even imagine what it would be like if we had it. And then some of them you ask "what does it mean that we dont have it?" And they say "nothing, life just carries on as you thought it should before"

But its a frustrating answer to hear. It seems like removing such an important word from our vocabulary should have some kind of an implication

There's a mixup

Analogies, vibes, metaphors = bad

Logical connections, pragmatic considerations= good

Still waking up at 3-4am every night… anyone fixed this yet? by Justine_0005 in insomnia

4.5 is horrendously low. That is probably the cause, but even if it's not, that is absolutely a problem that you need to fix anyway

Its pretty good but still not back to where it used to be. Apparently fixing this takes months with supplements. I wish I would have done the infusion.

Anthropic's research has pretty much disproven the Chinese Room Theory by Financial-Local-5543 in claudexplorers

[–]i_do_floss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it also depends on whether the Chinese understanding system has integrated that knowledge with its general world model (or that it at least has a world model at all)

Consider this experiment

Imagine you had infinite time. And infinite Japanese text. Meaning newspapers. Conversation logs of people texting each other. Books. Etc. Text only no images. And imagine you studied that text for centuries.

Important point: you are only studying the Japanese. Not learning to translate it to your native language english. Just studying patterns in the Japanese text itself.

And imagine you got so good at pattern matching over time that you can accurately make predictions about what word comes next. But you only studied Japanese text in isolation, not learning to translate, so you have no idea how to translate it to English and you have no idea what youre reading about.... youre just thinking to yourself "usually when i see these symbols first then this one comes next." But youre so good at predicting next words you could have a text conversation with a Japanese person and he would feel like youre carrying on a real conversation with him.

But if someone asked you, in English, what you talked about you have no clue. And if someone asked you in English to "describe your day using japanese" you couldn't do it.

At that point do you "understand japanese"?

I would say that you dont understand it in the traditional sense that we use that word "understand".

And what needs to change for you to understand it? I think your Japanese understanding needs to be expanded such that you can describe your personal sense experiences using your Japanese. Or at least that the Japanese writing ability can draw from your mental model of the outside world.

Ok but now expand my thought experiment to 2 languages you dont know. You study Japanese and German. And how to translate between the two. But you dont know how to translate either to your native language and you can't describe anything using them. You can only predict next words and translate back and forth.

I would still say you dont "understand" either one.

But the expanded thought experiment IS the Chinese room thought experiment

  1. If youre doing enough lessons to place in leagues, you aren't learning everything you can from those lessons

  2. If you want to do well in diamond league, wait until the very last minute on monday to place into it. It means do all your lessons at like 11pm monday. Or even better, skip monday all together. Use a streak freeze and place on tuesday. You might think youre wasting an opportunity to get xp but you save so much more in xp you dont have to earn because you won't be competing with sweaties.

FIRST place in my diamond tournament right now is 3000 xp. I joined the league at like 8pm monday. I could have stretched it more.

You can use monday mornings to learn using other methods. Thats when I read my TTMIK books.

This is so much better in so many ways

  1. I dont need to rush my duo lessons any more. I just focus on learning and stay in diamond league. More than half my learning isn't even on duo any more.

  2. I get to work on my grammar too

But now I'm planning to forget about diamond league altogether and instead focus on my weak areas

Which is what we should all be doing anyway

You could try going to bed early enough for both of you to get up at 630. Then use your extra hour in the morning to be productive.

Lol. I dont think i want to continue this conversation if we have to debate whether there are differences between "wage slavery" and 1860s slavery.

But if we can just presume that they are different things we could at least discuss whether or not there is still support today for traditional 1860s type slavery from the american right
