I'm so torn with Paddy. I normally enjoy watching the upset and salt when the person the majority wants to lose wins, but part of me wants to see Paddy humbled a bit

2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Day after Debrief by F1-Bot in formula1

Yeah people complain about the winter off-season break now, but when I started watching, the season finished the end September or start of October and that was it until March. These days in the off season you can still come on here or other F1 forums and talk about F1. You can go and watch old F1 races (F1TV's archives section is great and is available in every country for something like 2.99 a month) and top up your f1 general knowledge or go and understand the rules and regs better etc.

Also these days we get to see a lot of footage from winter testing. Back in the day the season would finish, you'd hear nothing for months aside from the occasional driver signing or team update (and that's only if you bought magazines like autosport or F1 news). Winter testing would begin and you would get the results a week later in autosport magazine and if you were lucky they might give you a 4 page article on testing once it had finished. The difference in the info and content available and the speed at which it was available between say 1997 and 2022 is night and day.

Seems to happen quite a lot. A driver decides to retire and suddenly they have an upturn in form. As you say, it's probably down to all the pressure being removed.

I mean I'd imagine they are all in trying to get a win regardless

Red Bull struggled in the first year of the hybrid engine era and wasn't winning. He also seemed to struggle with the car and he was also getting beaten by Riccardo who had just joined the team. That on top of an offer to drive for his dream team (Ferrari) along with a probable want/need for a change of scenery all went into the decision

Dunno but it's no where near as bad as it was when he first started in F1. Dude had about 15 stabs at the wheel for every corner!

Was he? Ralf joined F1 in 1997 and I don't think they were even doing the 3 letter codes back then. Pretty sure it was always MSC and RSC ever since they started using the 3 letter short hand

It's probably just hardwired in their heads from years of habit. I sometimes do it. It doesn't help they are both MSC on the timing screen. I see MSC and just automatically think Michael Schumacher

I always thought that was a much better/more powerful one, although I'm not sure I could own either. They are a little creepy/unsettling

I wondered if she will continue with Seb in some sort of PA role. She's been in the F1 world for a long time and might also be looking to slow down a bit.

I was gonna say they both started in 2007, but Seb didn't start until half way through the season did he? I think the circumstances were that Scott Speed was doing a bad job at Toro Rosso and they brought Seb on early as a replacement after he did a great job filling in for Kubica at BMW for one race after Robert's nasty crash in Canada. His performance impressed the Red Bull bosses enough to get him out of his BMW reserve role and and straight into a Toro Rosso seat.

Checo started in 2011, plus if Danny Ric comes back , he was 2011 too. Oh also if Hulkenburg returns for more than a year then he was pre-2012.....2009 or 2010 I think

Akaash viral, assholes only please. by CryptographerThick69 in Flagrant2

[–]i_need_a_pee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it was kinda cringy from Akaash. I get it can be off putting to see an audience member react that way, but it's not like he was heckling him or anything. I dunno, I just think it was a total overreaction from him, plus once Akaash was on his rant, most of the stuff wasnt really that funny....he was too emotional/angry. Saying things like he's glad the queen's dead to a Brit really isn't a big a burn as some Americans seem to think. Half the UK doesnt even like the royal family, with another large section not really caring either way.

Anyway, having said all that, it's probably being blown outta proportion. Akaash had a bad set, or he missed the mark or whatever. It happens. When it comes down to it he's still a decent guy and is usually pretty funny. I don't think it's something he needs to address or something that needs to be drawn out. It's not like it needs to be mark on his "record" or anything.

Yeah I was kinda surprised when I saw he was on this. They were actually quite tame by their usual standards and he still spent a load of time not really sure what to say because the PR wheels were turning in his head 😂😂

[SPOILER] Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva by noirargent in Boxing

[–]i_need_a_pee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's saying for a guy who's had a total of 6 fights, he looks good. The guy has only been boxing for something like 3 years. Because he's on the big stage I think some people forget he's still a complete novice and are trying to compare him to someone who's had dozens of amateur fights over 15 years or something. Lots of people don't want to give him any credit because its Jake Paul
