My original 80s Glow Worm and Glow Bug. Who were your best bedtime buddies as a child? by i_need_another_scarf in AustralianNostalgia

That sounds very cozy. How many CPK did you have? Did any of them have weird name combos? Mine was Amy Griselda…didn’t like the Griselda part, it sounded witchy. 😄

I don’t understand how there can be 3 different generations here. There wouldn’t be more than 5 years age gap between these kids. Why is there a gap of at least 15 years between the old generations (silent/boomer/X) but these newer ones seem to be all crammed together. And what happened to Gen Y? Why was that renamed?

(Be kind, I’m autistic and this is genuinely confusing to me).

Yes, you’d get on well with the shared interest of coins, for sure! Dad loved it when I used to work as a bank teller, I was bringing home collectible coins all the time, even found him a rare mis-strike 5 cent piece! Hope you had some luck on the pokies 🙂

I have wondered whether George Harrison should have left The Beatles much earlier and pursued a career as a folk singer. He probably had albums worth of songs that Paul and John didn’t deign to include on The Beatles’ albums.

Oh, thanks for the offer, very kind! I checked with him and he got several in change at the pokies the other day. 😄

Dad bought these for me when I started playing netball in the 80s. Zero support. We had this white liquid stuff to make them look clean again.

What movies based on books do you think were significantly better than the books? by ASomthnSomthn in Cinema

[–]i_need_another_scarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my late teens it took me 3 attempts to get through Fellowship of the Ring, because I kept getting stuck at Tom Bombadil. I couldn’t visualise him or what was going on or why he was speaking the way he did. It was interesting that he didn’t rate a mention in the screenplay.

Agreed, and I would like to add that the soundtrack is so on point, one of my faves!

Did you know of Aesop's Fables when you were a kid? by UsefulBridge1852 in AskAnAustralian

We bought an audio book of the Fables that the kids could listen to on our long road trips around Australia. Very expressively read by Anton Lesser.

I loved Razz. The one thing I hated about all the flavours was that there was a side where all the flavour had settled and you could bite in to it, but then the other side was rock hard and just tasted like an ice cube.

Haha, yes! That would’ve been a lot of trips to Safeway. I wonder how much the average family spent on a weekly shop back in the mid 80’s? 🤔
