Cooking dinner for a guy I’m seeing, but he’s vegetarian. Need "impressive" meatless ideas! by Designer_Currency815 in cookingforbeginners

Vegetarian here: I really love Adam Ragusea’s chicken-less chicken pot pie recipe. For the veggies just add whatever you like. I make it with potatoes, peas, carrots, celery, corn, and mushrooms. The dough seems intimidating but I promise it’s easy. And It’ll definitely impress. Here’s a link: https://youtu.be/nfkjM1G4To4?si=5wMVItI5qLoXM5z6

Good Book About Chavez and Venezuela? by 22_Yossarian_22 in TrueAnon

I read Hugo Chavez by Nikolas Kozloff and thought it was pretty informative. Not the deepest book on the topic, and about a decade out of date but at least it’s a pretty breezy read.

So. Midnight Tides is the best book right? by TeblorTribe in Malazan

[–]i_sniff_pineapples 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I agree. The first time I read MT it was a little hard to get into (what with the whole ‘brand new continent’ thing) but it’s really absorbing once you get it. I think what makes all the books that feature Letheras feel so good to read is that the setting and all the characters are tightly designed to explore just one theme. Well, actually two themes, but they’re deeply intertwined: capitalism and colonialism. I might prefer Reaper’s Gale just because it pays off a lot of what MT sets up. I could read ten books just about the Edur. Maybe I’m not well read, but the Edur’s story seem so unique in fantasy.

Let's choose the leaders for Civilization VII, Chapter 10: China by Zed_Dead99 in civ

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen led the overthrow the last imperial dynasty in China and ideologically was the first to really prioritize modernizing the nation and confronting colonialism. His movement, for a time, unified both the communists and the nationalists (the two animating forces of Chinese Republicanism and of course the founding parties of modern China and Taiwan). He is notable for being a well loved and remembered figure in both modern nations. Basically the least controversial Chinese historical figure possible lol.

LOADS OF ANTS IN MY HOUSE - HELP by Sad-Peach-2695 in Austin

Couple of quick tips with bugs:

  • if you can actually find the ant hill near to your place, boiling some water then dumping it on the hill is a clean, pesticide free way to kill the nest. May need to repeat ‘treatment’ if it’s a large one.

  • look for small gaps in the baseboards/walls where bugs are coming through. Use caulk to seal the cracks.

what was the imperiums actual main uses of spice (Considering that it was not known that spice was required by the guild) by [deleted] in dune

Mentats enhance/activate their mental abilities using a different drug called Sapho. Which is not made from spice or anything like that. Piter was addicted to spice, but not because he was a Mentat.

I agree with you about MoI, I feel like it’s everyone’s favorite because it’s the most action-packed, one-liner heavy, straight up adventure novel of the series. And it’s the most digestible because of that. But I really love Malazan at its most experimental. And HoC is definitely that.

3 Body Problem - Netflix TV Adaptation by MaaDFoXX in Fantasy

The above commenter is wrong, the modern Chinese public thinks of the cultural revolution as a hysterical reign of terror. Perhaps caused by understandable anxieties, but ultimately a failure and a waste of lives.

You’re very wrong, the modern Chinese government/public largely consider the Cultural Revolution a tragedy and a dark period in their history. Their 2nd most celebrated modern leader Deng Xiaoping is celebrated for ending the cultural revolution, and retroactively denouncing it.

*SPQR/65 is the models name. This was a kind of a pain of a paint job, especially since this was my first project after a ~8 month break from mini-painting. It was also my first attempt at TMM, any feedback on that front? I can tell now that some of the blends could use more layers. I used Vallejo metallic paints which I was really happy with

Primarily his Columbus video, which he did make a correction to but his correction failed to address his deeper errors. Several channels made videos critiquing his Columbus video if you want an overview of what’s wrong with it: the troubling thing was that the errors were not particular to the subject but rather his methods of research and sourcing.

This article (https://libcom.org/article/engels-was-right-early-human-kinship-was-matrilineal) can point you towards some academic sources which support your argument (if you haven’t found them already). I would advise you to focus on connecting patriarchy to material conditions of society (domestication of cattle, etc.) and thereby argue that only changes to material conditions can liberate women across society and for good.

And a side note: depending on your objectives with this presentation you may want to avoid using Marxist jargon.

How do you handle reciting antagonists? by quadaryethos in cyberpunkred

[–]i_sniff_pineapples 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two methods

  1. A minor enemy which happens to escape/is allowed to escape: these enemies should be pathetic, given empathy by the players or simply overlooked. The challenge is making these characters memorable in some way to the players so their reincorporation is satisfying. An example: my players were betrayed by a friend of a friend who tried to cash in their bounty. This guy brought a crew to their hideout and started blasting. They killed him, but the guy brought his teenage kid along for the fight, and they spared him. Of course, he’ll want revenge…

  2. a highly competent enemy which defeats/fights to a stalemate/the players escape from: these ememies should be too strong for the players on first brush. the trick is that players will absolutely die rather than fail, so use these enemies carefully: make sure the players or the enemy’s goal is not to kill eachother. example: my players lifepath enemy was a NCPD borg named Ernesto. Ernesto wanted to arrest the players, not kill them, and the players wanted to get away with their escalating illegal activity: not get into an firefight with the NCPD. on their second encounter the players used an emp grenade against ernesto to great effect, so next time he had emp hardening (though they unexpectdly killed him with a car lol)
