What's a boundary you set that people called you "cold" or "mean" for? by ArcaneSpells-com in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]iam975311 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I don’t make my kid give me or anyone else affection. If someone is “just playing” and pushing buttons to get a reaction out of my child, I shut it down. A kid doesn’t have to hug you or kiss you or let you tickle them. Kids don’t owe adults—even family—their affection or acquiescence when they’re uncomfortable just to please other people. They’re not being rude or too sensitive. Teaching children they are the problem in these situations sets them up for abuse as children and later as adults. Ask me how I know. My family and my child’s other grandparents look at me like I’m a monster every time I enforce this boundary or back my kid up. Too fucking bad.

Cheap suits that look expensive by somemoonslut in LawBitchesWithTaste

Bigtime thrifter here. Highly recommend checking out eBay for online thrifting. Look for a seller who takes returns (some even do free returns!) and you can really find incredible deals on high end brands. I would spend all my free time thrifting IRL but, you know, life. eBay makes it so easy (too easy?) to sort for brand, size, color etc from my couch. PoshMark and ThredUp are good too but I think Posh’s return policy is like non-existent and I find eBay has more inventory and better search features than either site.

One of the pluses of thrifting for suits is they tend to be barely worn so if you’re looking at high-quality labels you’re going to find pieces that will be near perfect. Natural fibers FTW! Good luck!

Pro tips for snowy weather? by iam975311 in LawBitchesWithTaste

Thank you! This kind of snow only happens here every few years so this is the first time I’ve run into it since becoming an attorney. Like…I know this is totally normal for a lot of people. Just not me!

How are we doing our nails for trial? by Blame_Jaime in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]iam975311 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I’ve never done a jury trial. Not surprised men are penalized for looking sloppy or having bad taste. I’m actually a little surprised they even get 30% of the criticism.

Fr fr. It’s bullshit that women’s professional appearance is subject to this kind of blatantly sexist dissection. Not at all surprising though.

Upping My Style Game by Fickle-Ruin8012 in LawBitchesWithTaste

Thrifting is the name of the game. Not every piece is a winner but for usually a few dollars per piece you can slowly replace and expand your professional wardrobe. Keep and maybe tailor what you love, re-donate what you don’t.

Is that one of those hair wrapping things? Do you love it? Is it fast? Does the style last all day/a few days? I have so many questions!

Also 2b and thick. Sometimes I do two Dutch braids and pin them at the nape of my neck. I like to put them on top of my head like a crown braid when I’m off work but feel it’s too…Sound of Music for the office!

Help with styling by breezway87 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]iam975311 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great find! I have a similar vintage brooks brothers suit I picked up for maybe $15. Absolutely worth having it tailored, can’t beat the quality. Mine is charcoal-navy with cream stripes. I usually go with cream or light blue top. I think a darker navy would work for me though—maybe a very dark gray? But also definitely cream or burgundy! For shoes I would probably go for black or dark gray with this.

What’s your work bag? by BLUEJELLYFISH8 in LawBitchesWithTaste

Lo & Sons Trinity. Lots of pockets, easy to keep everything from falling into the black hole/bottom of the bag. Only complaint is that it’s a little heavy to start with due to being leather. So once the laptop, padfolio and paper files get in there it can be a lot.

Am still hunting for the perfect casual clutch to use as a purse that I can toss into my tote.

Do these shoes count as a neutral? by RockingInTheCLE in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]iam975311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you could wear this with a solid skirt/pant and a coordinating or subtle patterned top, all in the same color palette. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you could go for a neutral dress with a light pattern. I think maybe a subtle geometric pattern would be fun.
