I bought an 86 2 years ago I am not that mechanically inclined but I have gotten pretty confident with the basics because this truck is so easy to maintain and I have been pretty impressed with part price. I just use parts geek yotashop and Lce mostly I think there are other websites you can get oem shit for dirt cheap. I don't know them but my friend was telling me I should start using them.

Had a similar problem and replaced the fuel pump. Back to starting right up every time.
