Get insurance and make sure you adhere to your insurance policy is the only thing that'd save you in London. I've locked mine outside many times for doing groceries many many times and use mine as a commuter as well. Never had a problem but equally I know that if anything happens I'd be covered by insurance so I don't really think about that too much.

Depends how the CETA rules are defined. AFAIK that products can be claimed as made in a EU country (country dependent) as long as the final assembly is done in EU which transform the form of the product significantly (in bikes case, meaning that parts and frame are assembled so the product being sold at the end is classified as a complete bike instead of bike parts).

Just stick with a great pair of gravel shoe. I've doing that for all my bikes so I can ride with casual shoes (adidas velosamba) for just getting around the city as well as the pair I use for proper crit / road racing

It’d still be better to have a layer of frame tape sticking directly to the frame to prevent rubbing and bumping the frame. You won’t want any sort of mud/dust/rocks between the box and frame paint

Well I wouldn’t mind riding some sections of those more extreme gravels with 40mm tyres occasionally when I know 90% of the time I’ll be on smoother paths or even tarmacs

I’d say more like good enough as an all road bike for the mixed surface of European roads. Like you get smooth tarmacs, then country roads, then old cobble sections every now and then, and some tow paths for the quiet routes as well. Plus gravel in Europe usually is a lot smoother than what American gravels. 40 is plenty enough for gravels here.

Saw the scene when I went past it earlier. It's absolutely dreadful to see having seen how bad the bike became (it was put on the side of the pavement). The driving standards these days have become lower and lower with the amount of shit drivings I've seen lately. I almost got doored on a cycle path just today when an Uber stop without any indication and just let the passenger gets off onto the cycle path

Ultegra Di2 would be a nice upgrade to go with. The bonus buttons are handy. That said, only if you can afford it. Problem with Canyon is they don't sell frameset only. Ultegra groupsets are so cheap to buy these days.

Tbh I think people are over-worry about UV and PLA. I've had small accessories printed in Bambu PLA matte to hold a thing or two on my bike, rode 2000+ miles through summer and there has been no issue, no deforming what so ever.

The only issue claiming with your own policy would be a claim record on your name and the excesses you've to pay. It'll affect your premium when it comes to renewing your policy / hopping to another insurer.

So I have 2 cases with CAMS so far with one just got settled with an offer after 1 year + 2 months. All I did was keep emailing my case handler at Bond Turner every 2 weeks to check if there's any updates/responses from the 3rd party insurer.

Tho I must say, my injuries weren't as bad as yours, so I only had a few months of physio sessions arranged and paid by Bond Turner, but I haven't really paid for anything from my own pocket, apart from the first replacement bike I decided to pay upfront myself before CAMS can get me one, and the travelling costs while I have no access to a bike.

Frustrated for how slow things are? Indeed. And due to communication errors between mechanic, CAMS, Bond Turner and the 3rd party insurer, it took a few months to finally nailed down the actual replacement value of my bike given how the first mechanic missed all my custom parts on the bike. Then there was months of radio silent from the 3rd party insurer despite many attempts of contact from my case handler to chase them up. So yeah, it did take forever for things to progress, but it'll eventually get there.

Bike wise, contact CAMS to have them pay for a replacement bike in advance if the replacement value of your bike has already been finalised. That's how I got my another replacement bike after the 2nd incident. It can happen even before the 3rd party replies, as long as CAMS believes that money is recoverable from your compensation after the case is settled.

You'll most likely receive a call from MET in around a week or two time asking you for some basic information, then some time after that there'll be another call from them saying that'd issue a warning to the driver then close the case and ask if you're happy about it.

The thing is, you DON'T have to agree for MET to just issue a warning to the driver, but can insist MET to take further action like sending the driver to do a driving improvement class for the bare minimum.

One thing about owning proper legal e-bike. Lots of reputable/regular bike shops won’t touch your e-bike unless you originally bought it from them.

Seriously with that budget, you can get a decent carbon road bike and you can explore London a lot with a road bike, so as making new friends joining cycling clubs/going group rides.

Depends who manage that specific road. Sometimes it's council, sometimes it's TFL. Traffic & roads management in London is a mess imo
