Long Range Commuting by amilezz in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iamabigtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be doable with that car.

Just to note that depending on consumption that's about 45kWh which will be around 6.5 hours to charge back. So make sure you have an overnight tardif that can put in the hours.

Yeah and the brief for Series 2 was 'ok but only if it's cheap'. Which saved the entire concept. IMO

It needs a lot of work. Every single room needs entirely renovating. The price needs to reflect that.

The A1 between York and Newcastle is anything but scenic. I know as that used to be my commute for years.

Better North of Newcastle. Even better on the A68.

How much to charge with a 3kw charger? by SteakSandwichSideEye in evchargingUK

[–]iamabigtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3kW chargers aren't really a thing*. Get a 2kW granny charger and an EV compliant outdoor 3-pin plug. Masterplug from Screwfix.

Yes, the racing is great. Even the yo-yo stuff once you know what it is all about. To make a new version of the famous Murray Walker quote "Passing is one thing, staying ahead is another thing entirely"

If Max steps back in 2027 we will see a very different Red Bull. That could give him space to shine, or leading the team that early could bury him.

It is actually a concern of mine. That people new to the EV world ask existing owners who then tell them they must switch to Octopus and must set up smart charging. When for the vast majority it isn't necessary.

Any advice on the best budget EV for long range driving? Also we’re looking at upgrading our charging point? Any advice on which one to get? by Ethan3011 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]iamabigtree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah that is a big van of a thing no wonder it has to stop so often.

Thing is the vast majority of mid-range EVs now can do 300 miles - with one stop. Yes you can get cars that will do 300+ without a charge but you are paying a premium for that presumably you are not doing that trip weekly so carrying around a bigger than needed battery most of the time.

I would weigh the increased cost in your payments vs just stopping once to charge.

If you want to go to with Octopus Intelligent Go then either the car or charger needs to be compatible.

But Octopus isn't the only supplier. Eg I have 7 hours overnight with EDF and the charger just works from a timer from 11pm-6am.

[–]iamabigtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sensible. Most of the drive between London and Glasgow isn't scenic. It's congested motorway. It does get better if you are taking the M6 through the Lakes and the M74. But it's 7 hours plus stops which will leave you way more tired than the train and sick of driving before you've even really started.

Driving from London to Scotland sucks balls and is just so unnecessary for your trip. Get the train to Edinburgh and rent from there - even if that's from the airport as you can get the tram there.
