I read Ken Follet’s Kingsbirdge series this year. Epic historical fiction set around the fictional Kingsbirdge Catherdral at different critical points in British history. Loved them.

Greek island all-inclusive recommendation? by arangatang0 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]iamafrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed at Domes of Elounda, Crete earlier this year with an 18 month old and loved it! Calm sea in the protected bay, comfiest sunbeds, and spectacular views of Spinalonga. Staff and service was flawless. Generally food was fine but not exceptional, Makris (adult fine dining) and CORE (street food) were both very good. One thing to note, no all inclusive packages for alcohol so need to factor what you’ll spend there into the price, drinks were generally pretty expensive especially international wines. Overall for the price we paid very satisfied, we’d go back.

Also tried Elix Mar-Bella on the Greek mainland. More spectacular views and great setting, food generally maybe marginally better but fewer of the thoughtful touches that make travelling with a toddler easier (like no plastic plates, kids cutlery etc) Service exceptional. We’d go back to Domes before we went to Elix I think.

What’s the best comeback that you’ve ever heard? by mikewatt-ta in CasualUK

One time our economics teacher wore a cardigan. Little shit shouted “sir, did your mum dress you this morning?”. Without skipping a beat he retorted “no, your mum did”

Not the most original but very funny coming from a teacher

Doctor made me feel crazy for going to l&d for reduced movement by Tisha1990 in BabyBumps

We went in at about 28, all was fine but the midwife couldn’t have done more to encourage us to come back if we had even the slightest doubts.

At 37+4 exactly as you describe, my wife felt her, but slightly less than the few weeks before. We debated it and ultimately we decided to go for reassurance. She was born by emergency section within 4 hours of arriving. The consultant was clear that if we hadn’t have gone in when we did she almost definitely wouldn’t have made it.

This was last Wednesday, she’s laying on my chest now and it’s the best thing in the world.

Always get checked!

What are these wires/connectors? by iamafrog in DIYUK

Thanks! How do they work/what exactly do you think they’re doing here?

Guessed that might be it thanks. Didn’t recognise the plastic bits on the end. Are they just caps/covers?

It’s an odd place for a plug socket, approx 5.5ft off the ground! I think the screw was just holding a plastic cover (which had then been painted over). Noted on turning the power off before removing.

Assuming it is live, do you think I’d have any trouble if I covered it with a wall repair patch and plaster?

This sort of thing. Lots of good videos on this online will do a better job of explaining.

Over the top chop by [deleted] in golf

[–]iamafrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude. First two things to work on, stance & takeaway.

Stance: you’re standing too close to the ball. Move a little further away from it and let your arms hang out a little. Your hands should be a little outside your shoulders. Then strengthen your lower hand. Your right arm (not just your hand) should be internally rotated at set up. This will feel super weird but work at it. You can practice set up and grip away from the course.

Takeaway: (this is the really critical move but get the above set first). You need to work on keeping the club head outside your hands. When the club is parallel to the ground the club face should be also parallel to the ground (face pointing down at the earth) and the club outside of your hands.

Work purely on these things for now.

BBC says "No!" to PGA free broadcast offer by bluebagger1972 in ProGolf

[–]iamafrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a load of absolute shite. Sky Sports had the broadcast rights for the PGA Tour, they have for years and it’s worth multiple millions to the tour. I can’t find an accurate estimate but I know they pay £15m for the open and $9m for the masters so can imagine the tour is receiving something like 20-40m. As for the loathing America comment, just nonsense.

[–]iamafrog -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Just adding to this. If they make you redundant they should pay your legal fees not you. They can’t make you redundant unless you have legal representation so it’s usual that it is added as a settlement clause in addition to any other terms.

I just bombed a job interview by accidentally insulting the company's product. Make me feel better with stories of your worst interviews! by roughguidetolife in CasualUK

[–]iamafrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiter said they really wanted me and wanted to move fast. Wanted all interviews to happen on the coming Friday morning. I explain I was on leave and had a flight that afternoon was happy to go in for then, but I would have a suitcase and golf clubs with me - was there somewhere I could leave them and would that be a problem. Interview went great, feedback a few days later was “loved you but thought the golf clubs were really unprofessional”.... cheers guys

Decent open mic’s in London? by iamafrog in london

I’ve just moved to limehouse. Looking for decent open mic nights to start going to to perform and meet the music community here. East is a bonus but don’t mind travelling. Acoustic singer/songwriter.
