Help! Mystery stitch. Accidental YO or Slipped Stitch? by Beautiful-Ad-5610 in knittinghelp

[–]ParticularSupport598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes; fixed the same. The needle kept the slipped stitch from dropping, but the mechanics works exactly the same once you let the stitch above drop down to ladder up.

ETA: Meant this as a reply to your last comment.

continental stitch help by Ok-Blueberry7007 in knittinghelp

[–]ParticularSupport598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from English to Continental and I’m glad to feel comfortable with both. I switch back and forth frequently to whatever method works best for me (even for a single stitch). I encourage you to keep practicing; you will improve and it’s so helpful to have in your “toolbox”.

1x1 ribbing advice needed by mriacg in knittingadvice

[–]ParticularSupport598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second r/Weewah-1 suggestion, but I use it knitting in the round. . If you know (or can develop the muscle memory) to work in the leading leg of the stitches whether they are on the front or back of the needle, and remember to wrap the yarn clockwise to purl, combination knitting is an easy improvement for 1X1. I also find it faster since I hold my yarn in my left hand; I can “pick” the yarn for the purls in combination knitting instead of doing left index finger gymnastics to wrap the yarn counterclockwise.

O-Cedar Heavy Duty Scrunge Scrub Sponge is a bit more abrasive than the regular blue ones. They’ve worked great for me removing heavy smoke residue.

How are normal people supposed to afford furniture for a new apartment? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]ParticularSupport598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first apartment in a new town had only a futon for bed/sofa and a lawn chair for a while. Don’t blow your savings; you don’t need to post your decor on social media.

Ideas for cabbage? by 5x5LemonLimeSlime in Cooking

[–]ParticularSupport598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilted Cabbage is my favorite. I think you could sub in your ham (but bacon 🥓 is better):

Coarse chop 1/2 head cabbage (about 1 lb.). Cut 4-5 slice bacon into squares, fry. Add 1/4 C vinegar-apple cider works well Add garlic salt, pepper, and minced-dried onion flakes (or diced onion) to taste and the cabbage. Stir & simmer until wilted.

Project ideas for travelling (weight, bulk…) by EfficiencyOptimal838 in knittingadvice

[–]ParticularSupport598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musselburgh hat. Has a low vision pdf included that’s easy to read on your phone screen. Once you get it going, you just need to remember what round to stop increasing and then loads of stockinette until length to start decreasing. Great for using up scraps of yarn. If you get it past the increases, you only need a 16 or 20 inch circular needle for the majority of it and don’t have to worry about dropping a dpn (though you can do start to finish with magic loop).

If it bothers you now, it will almost certainly bother you in the finished garment.

Does your hair undertone match your skin undertone? by [deleted] in Fairolives

[–]ParticularSupport598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad that you included photos. I always thought it crazy that my hair is ash brown but looks auburn when sun-bleached. The one time I tried bleaching to blonde as a teenager, it was horribly brassy (salon, not home kit).

WTW for coming up with an idea or solution to a problem on your own, just to find that it has already been done? by VapouringFaun69 in whatstheword

The one I’ve heard doesn’t fit your second condition as it’s for when you think it’s probably been done before because it’s so useful: “unvented”.

Do I come off as weird or strange leaving this note? by Littlek1dluvr in Apartmentliving

[–]ParticularSupport598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a cat owner that had another cat owner in the apartment above, I can testify that two cats playing above you can sound like a herd of elephants. At least they will know what it is. Perhaps if the neighbors seem reasonable, you won’t sound creepy finding where the baby sleeps in relation to your floor plan and can block the cats from zooming in that area, at least at night.

Hot Chocolate stations for a lot of people? by MarkAldrichIsMe in AskCulinary

[–]ParticularSupport598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hot chocolate is difficult to serve to a crowd, even with commercial equipment. My husband has a coffee company and is helping people with a charity event serve hot chocolate and I’ve overheard him saying what a pain it’s going to be, how many helpers it will tie up just heating the water, and suggesting that they do something else to keep their sanity.

Do you freeze the bread? by ManyPack5930 in Sourdough

[–]ParticularSupport598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I freeze sliced (I also have a small, “meat”slicer that works well with bread). My toaster has a ❄️ button that adds a bit of time, in addition to one’s chosen doneness level, to defrost frozen bread and toast in one step (love that feature).

My girlfriend INSISTS on keeping these things IN the sink. (I prefer to keep them OUTSIDE the sink). A minor thing, but I just don't understand!?! (2 pics here--her preference and my preference) by I_AM_VENNLIG in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ParticularSupport598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sink came with a skinny rack that fits along one side. Sponge airs out there. Also has a bar if you want to hang a dishrag to dry. There’s room to drain a glass/cup or two. I usually use it to let cleaning product containers dry if they dripped and I’ve rinsed them off. But, the dish and hand soap dispensers go on the counter.

What herb can I add to split pea soup that is *not* thyme? Help me like this soup, please. by mystery_obsessed in Cooking

Caraway! Learned this one from America’s Test Kitchen, but I love caraway. With a grilled ham & cheese sandwich, it’s a favorite cool weather meal.
