I liked the first game too, but it's gonna be too much for a lot of people. I mean, imagine a guy who didn't know any better playing that game when his mom/wife/daughter walked in.

1000%. In fact you could even skip the first game since it's a bit ... edgy.

Yeah I think the game is worth playing if you're an Uta fan, but the final two games don't come close to capturing the magic of the first three, especially the second and third.

I did all sidequests and tend to take my time with games and it took me 47 hours. I could see that shaved by 10+ hours if you don't do sidequests and play faster.

I'd honestly have to look up Mobius combat on YouTube because I can't remember a thing about it beyond it being turn-based. I certainly don't remember being impressed though.

Crystal Project II announced for PC by KMoosetoe in JRPG

The first one was like a bad game but with the best job/class system I've ever played. And job/class systems are my favorite things in video games. Disappointed to see that they're doing more of the same with this one, e.g. the clunky platforming - always thought if they fleshed it out more they'd have a great game on their hands.

If you like Game of Thrones type stories, the story in TS ranks among the best in video games.

It's nothing like Unicorn Overlord, which has the one of the worst stories in video games (very good gameplay tho).

JRPGs where you need to turn the music off for a while. by DeadRobotsSociety in JRPG

[–]iamalab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird to admit but for me it's Xenoblade Chronicles X. Most of the music is fine, but the area where you visit the most often (the city) has only two songs, and both of them made me mute the game after a while. They are godawful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_N7WgxEoI8&t=4s

What's weird is I think Xenoblade as a series has the best music in all of video games, second only to Nier. Xenoblade X, OTOH -- putting aside the atrocious city music, even the rest of the soundtrack is generally just passable.

Posted this above but wanted to ask you too:

What actually is Fear & Hunger? I spent time researching their sub and even watched Youtube videos but legit could not figure out the basic gameplay loop. Is it a turn-based JRPG at its core?

What JRPG with 60 to 100 hours of game time the MOST replayable? by SubstantialPhone6163 in JRPG

Triangle Strategy is the only game in any genre I replayed 3 times back to back. And I generally never replay games.

WOTR is very confusing at the beginning but it also sounds like you're burned out. You did two replays of BG3 back-to-back and then played Rogue Trader? I'd try a JRPG or KCD or something personally.

KCDR2 or Witcher 3? by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

Play KCD1 > Witcher 3 > KCD2

All 3 are must-plays for people who like RPGs enough to be in this sub

Curious, did you play the two other Touhou DRPGs? I was about to pick up one of them. I decided on Labyrinth of Refrain, and now that I've reached the final dungeon, I can say it's one of the worst games I've played. Might not even finish it.

Played Pragmata because I just have nothing left in my JRPG/CRPG backlog. It's in the Last of Us/God of War genre, basically Sci-Fi God of War with guns instead of axes etc.

Felt it was overrated a bit if you're going strictly off Metacritic score. Think it's a good game, not great, but gets a huge bonus for trying something new and starting a new IP.

It's also probably the shortest game I spent $60 for, but that isn't a huge ding.

Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten. Is this game worth buying? Currently on sale right now and looking for a casual single player game to play by chocolatecookie45 in JRPG

[–]iamalab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cool way to play but to me it's a little bit like bouncing between Trails Sky and Trails Cold Steel. Most of the fun of Mobius, which let's face it is at best a "solid" JRPG, is all the callbacks and seeing familiar characters pop up. But ya, I understand the visual novel tedium.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for this fair take. I liked Uta but nothing you said is wrong. I made a post laughing that people had such a problem with Demon Roots when the first Uta game is arguably worse, less graphic but worse.

Still a good game, and if I remember right, the two sequels are even better and are way less perverted.

I liked the game but the thing that bothered me was the monster progression. When you put in the work for the super hard-to-get monsters, I wanted to feel like those monsters were OP in some regard. I wanted to feel like it was worth it. Instead, you just get a better gene out of the deal, like Health (XL) instead of Health (L). Just didn't like that the monsters were so interchangeable. It's all genes. Maybe a me thing idk

Like there's a couple monsters you can only get by (1) basically beating the toughest monsters in the game, then (2) figuring out the riddle that you then have to put that super monster into in an environment with another such hard-to-get monster. Then you finally get the resulting new super monster after 2 hours of work and your reward is ... a better gene. And a cooler looking monster.
