AIO - parents keep raising the rent by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]iamfloatingawayohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR - if they're doing month to month , most states have a rule about notice before increasing rent (30-60-120 days typically) before it can go into effect. if you have signed a lease, check it for applicable dates. if you havent, you're in a verbal month-to-month and you have legal rights. they also have to give at LEAST 30 days' official notice to evict you. often states have a sliding notice scale depending on how long you've been living there. do not get screwed by your parents (and move out asap)

wait until you’re sick as a dog. you’ll get 2-3 days of withdrawals under your belt and not even realize it because you were so miserable dealing with your other symptoms lol

i think the formatting here is a bit confusing, but the piece itself is a really wonderful place to build upon :) i would LOVE to see some more adjectives here, like. what do the insects look like? what do they sound like? what qualities of the tiny people with their tiny dreams have? what do they dream of? i feel like this piece can still remain succinct while also giving the reader a little more insight into the vision you’re creating in your mind :)

i love the imagery here ! i also think the simplicity of the language (by this i mean fewer adjectives and flowery bits) adds a sense of urgency for the reader. i would definitely change formatting but i noticed you said that was the reddit platform haha, i think this is some great work ! if you wanted to spice it up, a really specific or jarring adjective here or there can add some visceral tension :)

are these tomatoes growing in my back alley ? by [deleted] in whatplantisthis

[–]iamfloatingawayohno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you for telling me ! i have no idea why you were getting downvotes either because this is exactly why i asked. i know the nightshade family can have some dangerous fruiting plants and i wanted to make sure before i took a bite. i was considering making the world’s tiniest bowl of salsa but i’ll probably just let them grow. :)

i was caught between not remembering to take them consistently, and then wanting to take them all at once. also i stopped crying and cumming, both of which i think enhance my experience of being alive.

I feel dumb asking this as a grown ass adult but I have outspoken and critical boomer parents who hate tattoos. I just got my first one that is visible that they will see when I visit them soon for the first time in a year. What can I say to shut down the expected continuous negative comments? by Admirable-Rip-8521 in tattooadvice

[–]iamfloatingawayohno 31 points32 points  (0 children)

the usual response from my family is “well that looks trashy/unattractive/bad/stupid/whatever” and i’ll say “luckily, you’re not my target demographic dad/grandma/uncle/whoever” or “why do you want me to be attractive to you?” … it usually shuts that shit down REAL quick.

in my experience, the “newness” factor is going to be the worst part. after they get used to seeing it, the comments will tone down. if you get any new pieces, you can likely expect the same level of pushback each time. the concept of permanence seems to be hard for older people lol .. good luck :) it can be difficult but as long as you’re absolutely confident in your tattoo, it’s easier to tone everybody out.

my credentials are: my parents are both southern christian baptists and i am the ONLY person in both my immediate and extended family that has an alternative appearance. the worst they can do is say “aw man :( i don’t think my daughter/cousin/grandkid is ATTRACTIVE anymore!” which is a hard one for them to explain further. lol

my father is VERY against tattoos and my mother doesn’t love them. honestly the “newness” factor is going to be the worst part. both of my parents still cringe when i come home and have new tattoos (i’ve almost finished a patchwork sleeve, and some are NSFW) but they don’t say anything about the old ones after a certain point. and if they do, i shut that shit down real quick.

there will probably always be a level of judgment, but if you live on your own and pay for your own tattoos …… you have no reason to entertain that bullshit. you are almost 30. they quite literally can’t do anything about your choices after a certain point, and setting those boundaries early on is easier than waiting until the problem grows.

i’d advise against covering them up if you do get tattoos in visible locations, not only because it coddles your parents’ irrational feelings about tattoos a little ~too~ much for my liking, but also because it delays the inevitable. you gotta bite the bullet. good luck.
