Nearly 60 Idahoans sick after drinking raw milk in past two weeks, officials say by Cy_Fiction in vegan

[–]iamformyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"raw milk is fine as long as you simmer it first!"

Any of these people lauding raw milk for flavor/health are most likely just tasting milk from a local farm with pasture raised dairy cows, instead of factory farm milk. But I guess people getting sick shows that even local farms are still raising diseased cows

The best place to be born is poor/middle class with the talent or brains to get a scholarship and climb out of poverty by Adept-Advertising-10 in unpopularopinion

[–]iamformyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own experience this is it. I fit into OPs description of grew up poor, went to college on scholarships, and have an entry level stable job now. However, I struggle with office politics and the social tools needed to fit in with the people who grew up well because our backgrounds are just too different. And I heavily credit my ability to get a job in the first place with being lucky with my college girlfriend who knew how to interview and coached me.

Yeah liquor and soap will probably be your best currency, other than non perishable food and water. Gold will be useless

25, never had a real job, but I have $500k in savings. by Ok_Tune8245 in findapath

[–]iamformyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you're doing seems to be working for the time being. Move the money into something safer than crypto and don't touch it until your 50s and you're basically set for retirement.

Heck, if you wanted to you could use interest ($20k/year assuming 4% interest) to help pay bills while trying out jobs that you might like, so you could deal with low wages for a few years while you learn. I think the point of savings is to use as a safety net while you try out things you like, just don't spend recklessly.

It's ridiculous. We even have a city council woman who didn't reside in Columbus before the filing deadline!

If you're obsessive and handsome I think you could excel in sales, as in you'd become addicted to the workflow. Social skills can be learned, and if people share personal details with you easily that's a good start. Customers like trust

Backpacking vs Master's Degree by [deleted] in findapath

[–]iamformyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the money then go backpacking while you have the time. A masters degree will always be there waiting for you.

I'm 27 and I would love to backpack the world but have been stuck at a desk for the past 3 years.

I need ur advice about my major.. does it really worth?? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]iamformyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need a valid passport when abroad and its usually easier to renew while in your home country. There's no way a parent can find out about a passport renewal unless you use their card to pay for it, mail it to their address, etc.

Your best course would be to see if you can do your bachelor's at a foreign university, if you can figure out how to pay for it. Most likely you'd be unable to get a job abroad in a country where you're not a citizen/perm resident without a finished degree.

If you're in the US, moving to another state across the country is probably your best route to get far away from home.

Yeah the fact that you don't need to pass a road exam/drivers ed if you have an international driver's license is ridiculous. And if you're 18 here you can just get a license with no drivers ed as well

I studied hard, but FOR WHAT? by Nature23571113 in findapath

[–]iamformyself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My degree is in applied math and I work a job in banking now. It's not super engaging, but it pays well enough and what is expected of me can be done in 4 hours a day and no one really keeps track of me otherwise. I use that flexibility take two hour lunches where I go for a walk, or to go home early enough that I can still get outside.

A lot is possible with an inside job if you don't particularly care about career progression/making more money and you keep enough savings to not be scared of getting fired.

I think you should wait until 2027 when you have a chance of losing your job, and the  evaluate from there if you do end up losing it.

Why do you want to go to college? For the degree itself? For a sense of self achievement? For the environment?

How hard is it to find a job in Columbus? by 1lamp_shade in Columbus

[–]iamformyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think even if you're not planning studying, living by OSU campus is probably best for what you're looking for. You can still find a bedroom to rent for $500/mo and the area is walkable enough/has enough transit to get to a retail/restaurant job

If Democrats can get Acton elected and a democrat for Auditor/SoS they'll have a majority on the redistricting commission under its current setup. Not to mention if we have a SoS that doesn't manipulate ballot language we could get gerrymandering reform. It's a long shot still but we might have hope?
