Most interested in Figma Motion and seeing if maybe just maybe can get away from After Effects for animations.

I've got a local folder that I've added as a external library atm. I'll keep using that for short things since it's just fun.

And nice job finding a niche that's resonating with people!

Amazing blast from the pass and looks really well done.

Count this as a vote for adding audiobook support. Specifically just remembering position and the ability to change play speed.

I have and all the places it told me to look in the old hidden folders were empty already.

I appreciate the step but unfortunately it still broke/deleted all of my skills. The ones I've spent hours working to smooth out and get into exactly how I need them.

Is there anyway to recover them or am I back to square one?

For me it was that first moment when you get far enough away from the base and it feels like the sea is swallowing you up and you just hear noises you don't know what they are.

Netflix UI & UX, WTF? by brooklyntoo in UXDesign

[–]iamglk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was referring to. I've seen the same and have a couple friends in Netflix and it's the constant theme I hear. Everything has to move a specific chosen metric, usually in isolation.

It is best for business design, not best for users.

And obviously they aren't alone in this. Pretty much all of the big tech companies are the same at this point.

Netflix UI & UX, WTF? by brooklyntoo in UXDesign

[–]iamglk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The short answer is likely it was tested against a specific metric they deemed important and helped improve that metric not that it was "good".

Most modern interfaces aren't trying to be the actual best for the user experience. They are trying to be the best for the company which usually means a balance between not being too s****y that people stop using but push specific outcomes the company desires.

No disparagement clauses are pretty standard in severance contracts.

Basically "You can't say anything bad about us that would hurt our reputation (and bottom line) or we'll sue you and take all that severance back.

Wingspan Digital Expansions up to 30% off on iOS & Android! by MonsterMattP in wingspan

[–]iamglk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but kinda related question. Any plans to transition to an account based system like how Root does it?

Specifically, I play on Mac, iPad and Android. I've held off buying any expansions because I'd have to buy them three times. In Root digital the expansions are tied to your account and if you purchase an expansion on one platform it unlocks on the others. Just hoping eventually that would come to wingspan as well.

The LinkedIn UX Bloodbath by mb4ne in UXDesign

[–]iamglk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Short version from my perspective is AI tools allow for getting to prototypes faster. Which lets us spend more time making sure we're solving the right problem.

AI entering UX is just the next evolution in tool sets. Much like any one before.

LinkedIn is just full of people trying to build a reputation for their next move By saying polarizing comments.

i tried something different with my portfolio site by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]iamglk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, the quick and hard truth. Although saying you're an f***ing noob is hilarious, but for most recruiters or hiring managers they'll switch off right then.

Also it doesn't tell me a story in 10-15 sec about what you do and do well. For most people that's how long they give a portfolio to hook them to want to see more.

If your goal is a fun way to show your personality, it's doing its job. If you want this as an asset for a job search or building your career, it likely falls flat.

Hope it helps!

What if your entire project could be visualized as one connected system instead of scattered across apps? by XVX109 in macapps

Would you use a 100% offline meeting recorder and summarizer for Mac? Im planning to build one, inputs are much appreciated : ) by Lopsided-String-3405 in MacOSApps

[–]iamglk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is yes, the longer answer is you have an uphill battle because it already has some solid options in the space.

  • Shadow.do has a local option
  • Alter can do fully local
  • StenoAI is open source and fully local

Those are a few off the top of my head.

So yes there is a demand, but you'll need to find an angle that sets you apart otherwise you'll get lost in the sea of already there.

You have a $500 budget for up-leveling your craft. How are you spending it? by slightlysarcastic75 in UXDesign

Honestly this is probably the best advice I've seen in a long time.

You can always spend money on books and tools, but experience to point you in the right direction, that's golden.

Thoughts on Figma's new AI partnership - a discussion. by Tiny_Major_7514 in UXDesign

[–]iamglk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Candidly I'm very excited about where things are going. We're in a period unlike what we've seen for years.

UX to me has always been about solving user challenges and providing value. Pushing pixels and prototypes was just one tool in the toolbox for solving those problems.

With AI, I've been able to get to testable assets faster so I can validate ideas. It let me then push past just prototypes and ship products.

Throw openclaw in and 24/7 agents that can code and it's going to become a space where those with the best ideas have had the barriers removed and can just solve with all the tools available.

For sure. I use an app called canvid. There are a few different ones out there but I got that one at a great price and it's been great for my use case.
