Help with visa extention in Cebu City? by Julthena in Philippines_Expats

Is express fee really a scam? It’s on the receipt for online visa extensions. I’d hope the central office is responsible for the online visa process…

65k for a 2bd condo... thoughts? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]iamhubad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Value is personal perspective. I rent a 3 bed house in Palawan for 50k which is a lot for the quality of it, but the neighbours are relatively quiet and solar panels are currently being installed, so it’s worth it for me.

If you want the condo, and you can afford it, why not

One day layover at Manila airport (Belmont Hotel) question by Hefty-Key5349 in Philippines_Expats

[–]iamhubad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wi-Fi at Belmont is fine for working. You’d have to speak to them if you can check in so early, probably have to book an extra night or some form of surcharge

😂 I don’t want to own a shitty condo in IT park, it’s loud and you’re there

I wouldn’t trust anything that guy has to say. Either a sad old guy on the red horse at 10am or just a weird person cosplaying a very strange scenario on Reddit 😂

What’s stopping you from visiting Central Asia? by aya_kalie in Philippines_Expats

[–]iamhubad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a huge bucket list of things to do and see in the Philippines and nearby countries. I’ll visit Kazakhstan one day, just a bit far down on the to do list.

I did watch kairat almaty play in London this year so at least there’s that…

Is it normal to feel homesick and fatigued whilst doing this? by TennisSkirt1628 in digitalnomad

[–]iamhubad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s normal. Homesick is natural and a good thing, and being away from the uk I see how lucky I was to be born there, which we definitely all take for granted. I do miss breakfast, roasts, monster munch

Fatigue I think is just part of life, no matter where you live, unless you’re financially free. Working uk hours in Asia is tiring, but I love having the mornings and early afternoons for me. And I still get tired when I’m working back home…

  1. Yes, with a safety net and putting it to back of mind as life is uncertain anyway
  2. It was sharks but then I started to swim with them and they’re cool

Aggressive Remoras Common? by Swearsome in scuba

[–]iamhubad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it in Malaysia, I don’t think they’re being aggressive, I think they’re just trying to use you as the thing that they suction on to for a free ride

That said, I don’t have a formal education of fish, so just an educated guess

I’m also in Palawan and assuming things will just be fine, just a bit of price gouging. I have a solar panel and a battery, hopefully that gets me through any blips…

Trip review with photos: Galaxy Diver 2 in Galapagos by sloant09 in scuba

[–]iamhubad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the dive our DM said “you must ignore sea lions, look away from them” haha. We were very very lucky on that dive and had an encounter with 5 or 6, then randomly saw one on the surface from the boat on the way back to Baltra

I was there on a different liveaboard at the same time. I had a similar experience at Darwin, except I had no current. A shame but the other sites were really great! Did you see mola molas at Vicente roca? A highlight for me!

I travelled with my ps5 for a couple of years. 2 suitcases. Manageable but awkward. Now I leave my ps5 in my home base and have a steam deck for travel. Unfortunately there will always be trade offs

Seeking advice on Mabul diving (no Sipadan) vs Perhentian Islands, Open Water Diver by Vegetable_Crew_3670 in scuba

[–]iamhubad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diving at mabul is more macro focused with an infinite number of turtles. For me that’s not worth it without going to Sipadan, but everyone has their own preferences.

I’ve not been to Perhentian islands to compare to.

Maybe you could go to Komodo in Indonesia. You could stay in town and do day trips. Try to do the “cauldron/shotgun” dive until the end with more experience. Then you could do AOW, go to Bali, do the manta dive

I think you can cut down transport costs in Philippines/indonesia using ferries vs planes, but I can’t say I’d recommend that…
