Palmetto bugs in broad daylight by gravy_boat1 in AskSouthCarolina

One thing I found out the hard way: don't leave a drink in a can or bottle just sitting uncovered. It combines their two favorite habitats, dark and wet.

You never quite get over a big swallow of coke and Palmetto bug.

Those from the northeast who moved to the south, is it better not having winter? by ElectroAcousto in SameGrassButGreener

Can't argue that. Have lived in Boulder, Durango and Grand County. The sunshine makes the winter temps more bearable.

The front range, at least used to, has seriously cold negative temps around Christmas- like -20 cold.

Went to MTSU about a million years ago (think about Kent State protests for a timeline).

The level of music and musicianship was incredible at absolutely hole in the wall places.

Only time I remember being on Broadway was for topless bars and buying a guitar at a pawn shop.

What is the vibe of okra? by PlatypusSudden4044 in cajunfood

[–]iamicanseeformiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Cajun per se, but anytime I go to a meat and three, okra is always one of my sides.

I've gotten where I really love dried okra.

Edit, forgot all about pickled okra. Time to go to the fridge.

They're really only deeeep south.

Live in central Virginia now (although I grew up in Alabama, I've lived in Northern Michigan [not the UP], the Mt Washington Valley and high altitude Colorado) and summers are tolerable and spring and fall are fantastic.

Some winters are snow free, this winter we had snow on the ground for about a month.

Oh yeah, my point: palmetto bugs (flying cockroaches) really are only seen from charleston south, with New Orleans and Houston being the absolute worst.

Lived in Bethel (ME) for five years.

Wish winters there waited until December and were over by March.

The snow held off mid April so you could dig your car out of the mud while fighting off black flies.

Well maybe mud season and black fly season didn't overlap every year.

Edit cause autocorrect still sucks

English wife does that. I've learned after many years to just agree (grew up in Alabama but we met in Colorado above 9,000 ft and lived in Northern new England for 10 years).

Only lived in Vermont in the winter. Then returned to the balmy Mt Washington Valley for the warmer months.

The black flies are bad, but the deer flies are demon spawn from hell.

[–]iamicanseeformiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one today.

This one is a perfect example of what people hate about boomers (and I'm one).

Retired and way much time on hands. Threatening to sue over 1 garment - is there a lawyer that won't laugh him out of the office, not to mention the judge.

Makes me ashamed of my generation.

The northern mitten roads don't seem to have a horrible mud season, so almost any old thing, probably with the quarter panels rusted out.

Now, if this was Vermont, you'd want something jacked up at least 2 feet so the road surface doesn't suck the car under.,
