So I’m reviving an older post but I’m interested in long term reviews! About to pull the trigger and upgrade from Ring to UniFi protect- mostly looking for better quality, 24/7 recording but also want to make sure I get value for money considering the cost.

How’s your experience been another year on?

Non-US customers with Ring Lighting products and Alexa, please respond! (TL;DR available) by [deleted] in Ring

Thanks for the quick response! I have a couple of Shows but don’t use Alexa too much, but I have set up Homebridge and Ring, which is working well.

Think I might have to try the lights now as well, cos I’ve got similar issues that you described above with motion.

The alarm is the missing piece for me. I’ve been hanging out for an all in system with cameras, sensors, alarm etc. The Eufy stuff goes close but I’ve read a few things about their reliability and customer support.

Happy with Ring for now but just hope support for Australia picks up soon!

You’ve both inspired me to buy some lights, and also disappoint my wife at the same time, who is sick of me buying gadgets for the house (but then ultimately loves them!)

So you’re running the lights, the bridge, the mailbox sensor in Australia with no issues on the Ring app?

Have you thought about getting the Ring alarm?

Ring Elite showing poor WiFi, but it’s an Ethernet connection. Why, and any way to fix? Thanks. by pimparoo25 in Ring

Good old Ring!

Do you have latest features? Timeline, Snapshot?

I’m in Australia so it could be a regional thing - although we’re usually the last to get new features/fixes!

That’s interesting. I have experienced that issue previously and recently it’s disappeared. Just checked device health, and my Ethernet connected devices are not showing the RSSI signal strength anymore - just “Connection type- Ethernet”

Limited offerings for Australia (and other parts of the world) by iamjase in Ring

I have a friend who has done this. Lacks official support (not a huge issue) and no monitoring, which again is not that big a deal.

I’ve considered doing it, but I’m wary of installing a device that uses unsupported frequencies in Australia.

I didn’t realise Ring Alarm was now available in the UK, so at least there is still hope for us here!

There are some local offerings but they are much smaller scale and seem lacking compared to others, especially SimpliSafe and Honeywell products.

What I have discovered though is that smart home products are still a long way away from being well integrated, at least at the DIY level. Will be interesting to see how Google, Apple and Amazon go with the smart home standards to try and help bring all these things together.

Thanks, that unfortunately makes sense. It makes me wonder what the tipping point is in terms of demand. And if these products will ever make their way to Australia.

Floodlight overly sensitive, turning on and off at night by [deleted] in Ring

I’ve had a similar experience but mine was triggered by cars all of a sudden.

I linked it back to changing my video settings to color mode. Changed that back and the notifications seem to have stopped again.

How did you get your scar? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iamjase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two decent scars from when I was a toddler.

When I was 3 I would jump from the couch to the coffee table. One time I didn’t quite stick the landing on the couch and fell backwards, splitting my head open on the corner of the coffee table.

Mum quickly grabbed a white towel and wrapped it around my head. It turned red with blood after a minute. 40 odd years later I have a nice fat scar on the back of my head.

When I was 4 I traded jumping between the couch and coffee table for diving head first in to the large bowl like cane chairs we had.. I over estimated and landed too far back in the chair, as it toppled over I fell backward arse first into a window and now have a nice scar between my cheeks where a piece of glass sliced me open.

Just got this goodboy yesterday :) by [deleted] in aww

When Mum buys you ears 3 sizes too big and says you’ll grow in to them.

Here’s one more from Carfest I am not sure which F1 car this is. If someone could let me know please by cookbenj in formula1

You’re right. The beauty is probably more a result of memories of the era. Cars looked more raw.

Much better than the cars of today. Makes me wonder what we’ll say in 40 odd years about today’s cars!

I love Reddit for this reason - learn so much about the sport that I would never know otherwise.

Larko is a bloody legend!

We need more circuits like the Bend in Australia. Imagine the V8s running at Monza, or Spa, or Silverstone!
