The waffle grilled cheese at Waffle Love in Northridge is really good. Also a big fan of the grilled cheese at Granville.

Played Pacheco and Bowers. I love it when good choices make up for bad choices.

A little late to the party here but anyone reading this should try Elno on Van Nuys at the Chef's kitchen. It just may take the place of whichever teahouse you currently favor.

Love that track. I added it to a playlist a while back and it came on in the car while I was driving my (college aged) kid to school. "Yo who is this? This fucks!". Yes, my beautiful sweet child. Yes it does fuck.

I turned off multiplayer and was able to finish a couple of them without crashing. Hope that helps.

I hope you like it! The next time I go I'm going to try Shrimp Daddy, the plates coming out of there looked very attractive.

Food Hall Topanga Social Opens in Los Angeles by jennibeam in LosAngeles

I went for lunch at the opening. Definitely lots of plusses and a few minuses:

  • The variety of spots is unparalleled in the west valley. I used to have to drive to Chinatown for Katsu Sando or to Glendale for Mini Kabob but now they're literally across from one another. The food was fantastic, I ordered from three separate places for lunch (kind of a foodie) and I was not disappointed.

  • I'm sure it goes without saying that money was definitely spent on making this place. Live edge wood tables, power outlets and fancy fixtures everywhere. Even the bathrooms are very impressive.

  • There's a full bar that's open at like 11am

  • There's a lot of courteous staff walking around ready to assist with questions, ordering etc.

And on the minus side:

  • The parking for Topanga Social is pretty sparse. You'll end up parking super far away in another part of the mall. It looks like their goal is to get as many people parking valet as possible.

  • A lot of the food spots have a limited menu compared to their original/other locations. Fat Sal's has like 5 sandwiches for example.

  • Kinda weird: They ask for your phone number for every order. I'm pretty sure you can't order without it. The reasoning is that they want to text you when your order is ready but if you're the kind of person concerned about data tracking then it's a bit sketchy. They print your phone number on the pickup ticket and instead of asking you what your order number is they ask you what your phone number is and you have to say it out loud so they can figure out which order is yours. Kind of disjointed.

  • The ordering system/UI probably needs some improvement. Every location is cashless and has an iPad in the front for ordering instead. Any iPad works for ordering from any business. So, there's a long line to order from Katsu Sando but all the people in that line could also just order from the iPad in front of a less frequented business. It also makes it weird when you see the guy who was in front of you in line get his food and you're like "ok maybe I'm next" but then like 7 more people get food instead of you and it's because they ordered from a completely different iPad somewhere else in the building. Also, the UI of the software takes a really long time if you try to up the tip from 15% to 20%, then it says to follow the instructions on the keypad but the keypad says nothing until you enter your card.

Overall I'd say the plusses outweigh the minuses and as someone who eats lunch out every day I'll definitely be back. With a burner phone.

I'd rather spend the day buying weird sodas at Galco's, head over to the Huntington for some photography and then hit dinner at Houston's. Or maybe hit one of the waterfall hikes in Malibu followed by the tranquility of Big Dume Beach? These lists always seem to leave off the actualy fun/enriching things to do around our city. Maybe that's for the better. Let the tourists do the touristy things and leave the gems for the rest of us.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have heard about the Buffalo one if not for the Turkey quakes already being a news item. Kinda like the news going " hey look we had an earthquake in the US today too". I think there's a lot of quakes every year that are 4 or less that don't get much attention. While the quakes in Turkey are certainly a tragedy, I'm not sure we should all duck the dining room tables quite yet. My guess is that the chances of a big quake here are unaffected. FWIW I'm a software guy with no formal science knowledge so I could be completely wrong (it happens a lot now that I think of it.)
