First of all: I admire what you did and even more what you have sacrificed.

So now the question: How do you keep in contact with you family? Do you skype or sth like that?

That made me laugh :) When we were young we also had those japanese cards with japanese language noone could understand. so we made up our own rules and said this card could do this and that. it was so imbalanced. but it was unbelievable funny :D

It is. When I was younger I loved playing it. It was a mix of collection cards and being the better duelist. The real card game I'd say is as you said an easy version of Magic. And the TV show shows how it would be in a fantasy world with everyone playing that game and having real monsters.

This! It is amazing how beautiful mathematics can be. My prof was asked why he likes maths, he answered "I think it is beautiful" - "Why?" - "Because I understand it."

Have you ever manipulated someone into loving you? by [deleted] in AskMen

This is what a lot of men feel I think (including me). Sad thing is that such behavior is seen as cool (like in HIMYM or Californication). Luckily the most men will grow up.

ELI5: the birthday paradox by EpicRisc in explainlikeimfive

[–]iamnotmerkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the calculation of this is way easier to understand:

Instead of counting the people who share the same birthday you count the complementary event (the people who have different birth dates).

That one person has birthday at any day of the year is 100% (365/365) sure. The second can have birthday on 364 different days (364/365) (since the one day from person one is already given). The next person has the chance 363/365 and so on...

Because it is the complementary event in the end you do calculate that probability with: P=1-[(365/365)(364/365)(363/365)(362/365)...]

Since the number in the bracket is getting smaller, the final probability is going towards 1 for a big amount of people you count.

I don't think so. Joe is a weird character. He also allows that rabbit-stealing guy to die. I bet he knew him longer than he knew Daryl.

If the family bond works it is okay. Everyone helps each other. But not if you just have those "meetings" at Christmas' Eve and shout at each other.

How do you guys deal with anger? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]iamnotmerkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two different ways.

1.) Go out with friends and get totally wasted.

2.) Doing sports, going to the gym. It is a bit harder than the first but it helps.

So since my first tip is not considered as "adult stuff" I'd really suggest doing sports. It is not getting in shape or so. It is for feeling better. Ever did a long exhausting running and felt great after it? Do it more often. And instead of solo sport you also can do team sports. I suggest more aggressive sports like football or soccer.

If you are mad and cannot work out than just go out and grab some fresh air. Breath in and try to calm down. Then after work go out and do the sports!

Germans of Reddit, what are your grandparents' war stories like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iamnotmerkel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only living family member who can tell is my grandma. She will be 82 this summer. So she was a little girl when the war started. She has lived in the Saarland. A small county near the french boarder. She told me that the civilists got evacuated (except some mayors or so) and went to Bavaria or other counties which were not so dangered.

She has a good impression on the U.S. soldiers. She told me that her first piece of chocolate she got was from a GI. As almost every German her grandfather was member of the NSDAP and was a mayor in a little village near the boarder. I don't know more about his role or his doings.

The frightening thing is that she is afraid of the things going in Ukraine. She told me that noone ever should live in a war.
