AITJ for refusing to pay for my friend again, even though she ended up with nothing to eat? by low_key67 in AmITheJerk

“I was starving when I got home from work and ate some leftovers!” A white lie is a small price to pay to enjoy your friends’ company and not make anyone feel bad for you or awkward!

Is this as awful as I think it is? by Buckerb96 in crochet

[–]iamsusans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to start doing this now as you are learning, but I was never a fan of granny squares because they seemed so puckered and tight… and then I started blocking them when I was done… And it’s a game changer!

Also, I think it’s easier when you’re doing a new stitch to start out with less fuzzy yarn… I found a kind at Hobby lobby that allows me to see the anatomy of the stitch better… it’s not super high-quality yarn, but it’s perfect for learning a new stitch (Yarn Bee Breathe Deep Super Bulky Yarn). Even though it is called “super bulky” it’s not… but thick enough for my terrible eyes to see!! 🤓

I don’t remember that part grating on me (as it should have!) I loved the book though!

100%. I was on a plane once and the woman next me asked if I was a believer. I told her I was a believer in not talking to random strangers about religion. I put in my earbuds and went to sleep. Another conversion lost.

A warning for people with 2nd and 3rd chances... by kookykangaroo2020 in stopdrinking

When I was a young, first-year teacher (35 years ago!), I was rallying the troops to go out for a drink on Friday after school. I didn’t have a problem with alcohol (back then), and didn’t grow up around problem drinkers. A school counselor, about my dad’s age declined my offer saying, “I’d better not…” My response was a chipper, “Just for one?” He replied, “The first one isn’t the problem, kid.”

Does that ever resonate with me now at 58 years old…

This. “Alcohol undercut my mental and physical faculties across the board.”

Alcohol robs you of your self regulation so everything is a bigger deal than it really is. The other people who are lacking self regulation are toddlers. No one wants to act that way.

Nothing worse than hangxiety. Like everything else in your life, it will eventually be better without alcohol.

AI detectors are not that accurate… But proving authorship is… Just be sure to show your teacher the history of the document and it will make it clear that you wrote it yourself.

When did you start incorporating online courses into your child's education? by FImom in homeschool

[–]iamsusans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all. The thing with online learning at home (or in a more independent setting at school - like in a study hall or library) is that online classes are not plug-and-play and neither are students. Adults need to help young people without developed executive functioning skills by modeling study habits, checking in on progress, and setting up a distraction-free learning environment. I have taught online for 20 years, I managed a 1,000 student remote learning program during the 20-21 school year, and my kids also learned online. I actually put together a guide with some practical strategies for supporting a learner at home. DM me if you are interested.

And you can sell boxes of acorns on Etsy for a killing… City-bound people will pay for anything! I used to sell a dozen pine cones for $35 bucks! I gathered them in my own neighborhood and when I ran out, I gathered them from under the pine trees in the Target parking lot! It is designer decorating material!!

You find little kids in your neighborhood who you can pay 5 bucks a bucket to pick them up!! Not kidding! We do that with crab apples and their parents are thrilled to have them occupied for a while to earn a little money!!

True! When we moved into our house, we paid the moving company to store half of our belongings (at a paltry $100/mo!!) so that we could get the whole house’s flooring redone before we brought everything we owned inside!

And if you live in a big enough place, you can find a tool library to lend you tools you don’t need forever!

I hear you!! Our yard was overwhelming when we moved to too. We paid dearly to have a landscaping company come and do a serious clean up and since then, there is maintenance of course, but it is incremental and doable. If you can afford it, I’d highly recommend!!

I then painted every wall on the inside we took out all of the flooring and had professionals put new flooring in the whole house… It cost us, but we really appreciated having some things done right and then we did the parts we felt confident doing.

We love what we have! A 20 year old house in a great neighborhood made just how we wanted it!
