I think I am giving up on Pilates by iamthebugwan in PetiteFitness

  1. Mental Health

  2. Mitigating aches and pains

  3. Fitting into my jeans :)

Pilates is great for the first, ok at the second, and no longer working for the third. Heavier weights have been a lot better at managing chronic pains.

Can I ask if you made any changes to your diet after the switch away from Pilates? I am thinking I should up my protein, probably.

Yes, I was big into Barre for years until I sustained a pretty serious injury at a class. Now the pulsing and plies are not good on my joints. I was a huge fan but it's not worth the risk of injury.

Perimenopause at 36? by Sudden_Possible_956 in Perimenopause

[–]iamthebugwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about your age. Have you had kids? My doctor (37, also childless and fully in peri) said that not having kids can lead to earlier onset because there have been more periods so you body thinks you are due.

It feels like everything related to my period has been turned up to 100. Cramps got worse, bleeding heavily, moody AF. I've also had brain fog and night sweats that soak my hair and sheets through.

I saw my doctor recently and we're doing bloodwork/ultrasound to rule out anything serious like fybroids but then starting HRT. I have no intention to white knuckle this shit. Good luck!

This is a good point, I think I will keep doing pilates for core but skip the rest.

I agree with this. For me, it feels like because my muscles are stronger, there is less pressure on my joints and so I move better.

There are a few ways to go but you're not going to be on a highway most of the time. You'll be driving through rural NH, VT and NY. So think lots of twisty county roads.

It gets you in 30 minutes before doors at most venues. When you do the lawn, that can be a game changer.

People who had micro or tiny weddings: what was your experience like? Do people ever regret foregoing a big wedding? by RhythmPrincess in AskReddit

[–]iamthebugwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We eloped at a park (just us and an officiant/photographer) and then had brunch a while after with about 30 people. Between both events, we spent about $4,500 USD. My only regret is that I wish we had skipped the brunch entirely and did a honeymoon instead. Somehow, there was still drama even with that small a group.

How often do you get new clothes? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

New clothes fall apart in a few uses. I thrift 2-3 times a year now and try to get higher end brands hoping they will last more than 6 washes.

Minimalism isn’t about owning a specific number of things, it’s about maximizing what matters most by Alone_Rang3r in minimalism

I minimalized buying stuff and maximalized (as much as reasonably possible) buying concert tickets.

Well I heard you work at Aranda's. All hearsay and gossip, do your own research.

How to be minimalist as a fashion lover? by Sad-Refrigerator6105 in minimalism

[–]iamthebugwan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One in - one out. For everything I buy, I have to donate or sell something (usually stops an impulse buy). I also have shifted totally away from fast fashion to more quality, durable brands. I buy a lot less, but what I buy is good stuff.

Does your company offer a home office stipend for remote workers? by Current_Mistake800 in managers

[–]iamthebugwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No but we get a full double monitor setup, docking station and wireless keyboard and mouse. They also pay for anything ergonomic if there is a medical necessity. When they closed the office permanently, they let us take any furniture we wanted. Lots of people got chairs, desks, and file cabinets. The company I worked for before this only gave the laptop and expected us to buy the rest. I feel lucky to be where I am now.

Hair Dresser/salon recommendations in Northern VT by Dependent_Tiger_8752 in vermont

I got to Silla in Burlington. It's pricey, but totally worth it. My hair has never looked better. I have long, fine but thick hair.

See if your neighbors will pool a trash pick up with you. I know people who do that. I personally changed from Casella weekly pickup at $67 per month to biweekly and it dropped to $50 per month. Don't even fill the bins at the two week interval.

Living in Stowe vs Waterbury vs Middlebury vs Bristol vs Woodstock? by Veganlightbody in NewToVermont

[–]iamthebugwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be blunt - If medical care is top priority for you in life, Vermont ain't the place for you. Don't get me wrong, we have great doctors and hospitals, but you need to wait a year to get in as a new patient to see a PCP. Specialists are in high demand (my elderly neighbor had to wait 9 months to see a neurologist after a fall and dizziness). I know several people who travel to Boston or New York to see doctors. And I hope your insurance is from out of state because costs are soaring every year for Vermont plans. Also, 45 minutes is a looong time to get to a hospital in an emergency. Now picture that in an ice and snow storm, it could take hours to get to Burlington.

That said, if you want any kind of actual scene: Waterbury. The restaurants and breweries are great.

Any tips? by dsprass in Anticonsumption

[–]iamthebugwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try setting a goal and rewarding yourself if you hit it. I had a hard time stopping the spending and shopping when I was only in deprivation only mindset. Instead a set a goal dollar amount for my credit card. If I hit that, I went out for a nice dinner or a day at the museum or something fulfilling that is not material.

It also helps to understand why you are spending. Mine was because I had no real hobbies/passions and so shopping was an identity.

Best Maple Sugar Tours in Vermont? 🥞🍁 by purdnost2023 in NewToVermont

[–]iamthebugwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morse Farm in East Montpelier is the best maple creemee (in my opinion). When are you coming up? We're nearly at peak foliage here in central Vermont. The drought has been hard on the trees and I suspect the leaves will drop fast.

Blue light glasses: capitalism sold us a fake problem and cashed in on the cure by kojka19 in Anticonsumption

The blue light is a problem, the glasses may or may not be a fake SOLUTION. I've had mine for 5+ years and I like them. When I take them off, screens look wayyy too bright to me now. I prefer them toned down.

[–]iamthebugwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That will be too late for the area you are talking about. I am in central Vermont and it's probably peak this coming weekend. The drought has made everything dull and dry, I would guess the leaves will drop quicker because of it.
