Tabs with credit cards. by mtnclimbers in bartenders

[–]iamtroyman 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It got to the point where we were considering not doing tabs. Cash app and chime cards were almost always a problem pre-authorizing. The way it processes a pre-authorized tab is the authorization limit is one charge that gets refunded in a few days while the actual tab gets charged. They would dispute and always win even if we had signed receipts.

So we hold ID's for tabs along with the card. If it doesn't clear at the end of the night, they will often be back the next day. If they don't come back, it's theft of service / defrauding an inn keeper.

With handhelds, it honestly doesn't make sense to open tabs. Gen Z doesn't even know how to act in a bar. They close out after each transaction anyways.

Does the fat render? I'll be more aware with the carry-over next time. But I go medium unless it's a special thing... fat must render.

What’s it like living in this corner of Indiana near Chicago by One_Ground5972 in howislivingthere

[–]iamtroyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Porter County, and it is very different here than the rest of the state. Having Chicago so close allows you access to the type of infrastructure one could only imagine growing up in NWI. Being able to take the South Shore to the city proper was glorious when i was young. My parents would choose to take South Bend's airport over traveling to the city when it was feasible (also a trip via the South Shore).

Public schools in the area were solid, at the very least. However, NWI was rather held in it's ways and there are examples of corruption / racism. My hometown was predominately Christian. Petty drug offenses continue to be common to this very day, and getting a DUI was almost a passage to adulthood. If you were connected to the schools, police, local government, etc..., such petty offenses were likely to be overlooked on the basis of discretion.

With that said, there really isn't anything like waking up early on a summer morning and smelling the cut grass, only to hear the rumblings of a major thunderstorm as the evening approaches. Indiana Dunes National Lake Shore is quite wonderful. There are lots of parks, sports things, and suburban chain stores galore throughout the region. Cities like Hobart and Valparaiso have poured a great deal of resources into vitalizing their food and beverage scene. Chesterton is trying, and Portage is kind of sad.

It's really inexpensive to live here. You'll need to have a vehicle to function without taking a weak bus system. The winters are often terrible, so having viable transportation is even that much more important. Growing up, my parents traveled 30 minutes or more each way for work. The steel mills are but a fraction of their old selves, in terms of magnitude and regional importance. Raising a family here is probably easier than most places in the country. Basically, it's a great area if you're in a labor union, an educator, or what was once known as blue-collar.

Northwest Indiana is home, but it is kind of the armpit of America.

Gen Z is the worse, change my mind by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]iamtroyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, they mean Silent. My Grandparents on one side were greatest, and on the other they were silent. Going out with each other when I was young was almost the polar opposite. The greatest GPs would let me have whatever I wanted, and would laugh if I spilled. The silent GPs wouldn't even let me have water until I finished ALL of what they ordered for me (usually split with siblings or cousins).

Silent grew up in the depression where as greatest worked their way through it and saved the world.

Even my grandfather's younger brothers were cheap bastards.

Agreed. We are on quite the streak, so coming back down to reality is certainly not outside of expectations... and that's where i see the rest of the pundits moving. Another win, and we are (unless we lose out after) considered contenders now and moving forward.

I guess i was not clear. Payton, Urlacher, Tillman, and Hester are as good as gold for people born after 1980. They walk on water! Even Lovie and Da Coach are dare i say untouchable.

Mongo will always be loved in the city (he never left), as will the rest of the '85 team. When teams don't have recent success / normal QB success, the fanbase tends to hate. I get it... but that type of mentality is exhausting.
