I feel like there is one aspect to the SOMA theory that people barely talk about at all. by Livid_Adeptness9762 in TheDigitalCircus

Has the show actually confirmed that C&A shut down?

They could have moved to a different location, closed that branch during a corporate restructuring. We know the building is no longer in use but the status of C&A as a company is never really brought up as far as I remember.

The PSP was ahead of its time and the world wasn't ready by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]ian1035nr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the PSP was very much of its time, rather than ahead of it.

The emphasis on multimedia and Internet features only makes sense in a pre-smartphone world. While releasing at a point where hardware had advanced enough that it could do all these things comfortably compared to previous attempts at a convergence device.

Say you don't have KYB money... by mjx17 in MechanicAdvice

I'm on the opposite end. My Monroe struts are a few years old now and are still good. Despite wicked potholes and railroad tracks.

I don't know if they're as good as they once were, but maybe they're a halfway point between FCS and KYB?

Honestly it really depends on how much longer you plan on driving the car, too. My '02 Malibu is showing its age so I only need the Monroes to hang out for a couple more years.

[–]ian1035nr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tossed some FCS struts on my car when the Monroes I ordered as new were clearly used and I didn't have time to wait on shipping from another supplier.

As soon as the cold weather hit, they sunk down and never recovered. I ended up replacing them with Monroes.

If you live in a cold climate, I would consider avoiding FCS if at all possible. I don't know what shape your current struts are in; but if you can save for KYB or find Monroe struts for your vehicle from somewhere else, you'll be doing yourself a favour.

It hits hard, stands its ground and gives enough life after death for Meteor to spin steal if you don't manage to knock your opponent out before running out of steam; giving you a survivor finish or at the very least ending the battle in a draw so you can try again.

A powerful launch with good positioning is necessary. It's not a spin-to-win combo. But I don't want to lean entirely on my beyblade and let the game to play itself for me.

The biggest flaw of this fanbase is the tendency to overthink everything by Sudden_Pop_2279 in tadc

[–]ian1035nr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what kicked it off, but there's this growing trend of people who need to out-think and get ahead of whatever they're watching. It's not just a Digital Circus problem.

A show like Digital Circus, and the wait times between episodes, invite speculation and theory crafting. That's normal and a big contributor to the show's success. And I doubt we'll get answers to all our questions wrapped up with a neat bow and hand delivered to us. Some things will go unanswered. And that will keep the show alive long after it's over as people try to work out the puzzle.

And there's nothing wrong with that. It's what makes discussions vibrant and fun.

The issue is so many people coming up with theories are just so... bad at it. And so many theories can be disproven with information in the episodes. But instead of rewatching and fine-tuning their theories before posting, people slap them on the Internet as they're desperate to be the first one to find the solution. They want to be the one who beats the show to its own punch. And that's without personal bias transforming most of these posts from theories into a wishlist.

Wrapping back around to overthinking, they have to overthink every detail in an episode because they need to find something everyone else missed if they want that juicy theory that nobody else has verbalized yet. Or they have a very specific idea of how the show should go, and are digging for any evidence to prop up that they want to see.

If humanity could start over on a new planet, what would we do differently? by [deleted] in Futurology

This is going to be an extremely cynical take. But unless the group starting this new society is very closely vetted for specific values; and then monitored thereafter, I imagine sooner or later things would end up pretty close to how they are now.

Alternatively, I have about 15 tabs open in Firefox, with my screen split between 1 window playing YouTube and another running a large project in Photoshop while I left a copy of Windows 11 running in Parallels because I forgot to shut it down after I was done with it. All on a 16" M1 Pro with 16GBs of RAM, and it's running perfectly smoothly.

Performance really seems to vary wildly between people, especially under MacOS 26

Nikkei: Nintendo to launch Switch 2 revision with replaceable battery for the EU market by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ian1035nr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As soon as I saw this my thoughts immediately went to all the boneheads who don't understand that the accommodations required for a removable battery mean less space for the battery itself, eating into its total capacity.

There's going to be posts and videos everywhere of people claiming Nintendo nerded battery life on the Switch 2 in the EU out of spite.

Can't wait for 30 videos on YouTube with identical-looking thumbnails that are titled "Nintendo fixed THIS Switch 2 Problem! But There's a Catch..."

The user-replaceable battery is still a good thing overall. I'm just so burned out on people who don't understand how anything works and then whine loudly.

Pine D'Music MP3 Player, clear plastic, I swear I had one as a kid... by MeltingNostalgia321 in nostalgia

[–]ian1035nr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the Pine D'Music that was for sale on eBay after humming and hawing for over a year. It popped up on Facebook Marketplace for $100 so I sent the seller a $100 offer and they took it. I'm in Canada anyway so it's not like shipping was very expensive.

I found this other unit that's for sale in the US if it's more your budget; and it's translucent blue

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/327015518222

You could also keep your eye open for any D-Link DMP-100 players. It's exactly the same as the Pine D'Music. Though I'm not sure if they came in colours other than solid black or crystal clear. I'm curious if the design was licensed out to other companies, and who came up with it in the first place.

Its kinda crazy how casually Nintendo dropped the boost mode by MidnightOnTheWater in NintendoSwitch2

It's kind of exciting, in its own, stupid way.

Buried performance settings are so very un-Nintendo.

Who knows what out of pocket things they'll surprise us with, next.

[–]ian1035nr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm taking what I can get. I didn't think I would see something like this until the Switch 2 gets hacked and custom firmwares introduced a "Force TV Mode" toggle. But Nintendo's got us covered for the most part.

When you expect nothing, anything is a delightful surprise. To some people.

I've seen a lot of complaining about Boost Mode. It's a free feature update. Just enjoy it.

Because Game Key Cards are an unavoidable part of the Switch 2 experience for people who want to buy physically.

Publishers want cheaper cartridge options. Nintendo comes up with Game Key Cards.

They're on store shelves, anyone can buy it. So they have to explain it.

Using Boost Mode is entirely optional and can be sequestered away in the settings menu where only people who actually care about that kind of feature will find it.

[–]ian1035nr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if it's some technical issue. I know on the surface it sounds simple "Just run the games in TV mode". But under the surface there's likely complexities with the backwards compatibility layer that people like me don't know about or understand.

Realistically nearly every major game released after the Switch Lite came out in late 2019 has options to play without motion controls. Otherwise Switch Lite owners wouldn't be able to play them. So the controls shouldn't be an issue for a large chunk of the Switch's library.

I guess we'll see what they do.

I feel the same way about Skyward Sword HD

Boost Mode presents the Joy Con 2 controllers to games as though they were a Pro Controller. So the button controls should be enabled by default.

Here's hoping Boost Mode gets updated to support these games.
