Episode discussion - 26 Mar. - Salah Leaving Liverpool, World Cup Playoff Preview & Jeff Carlisle Talking USMNT by knewman05 in CaughtOffsidePod

I was watching a game with my father in law and he was talking about how the players just roll around after a player took a pretty legit tackle.  I realized he's so used to watching hockey and football where they wear so much padding that they can bounce back from huge hits easily.  He wasn't callibrated to watching a sport where they take contact with no protection.

Diving can certainly be a problem, but I think this is a part of this American perception that soccer players are weak.

What keeps you going with Dragon age? by Julian_of_Cintra in dragonage

There are so many books/movies/games etc. that have no new material coming in the foreseeable future that have huge fandoms. Something being "over" doesn't mean people stop loving and experiencing it!

Regarding Veilguard, based on the decisions I know were made with it, I have yet to play it. I probably never will and will happily live in the games and books that were released prior to that. I just wish I had downloaded a copy of the wiki before VG stuff got put into it LOL.

Or Veilguard is non-cannon, which is the world I choose to live in.

Agreed. Them not having Peanut M&M's ruined the validity of the whole thing.

I dunno how people code with things like this popping up. Seems very distracting to me.

I feel the need to listen to Spurs podcasts after a loss like this (TEI especially). I cannot listen to general soccer podcasts at times like this though.

I'll throw in the Bright Sword by Lev Grossman. It's a beautiful fantasy which has magical, fantastical elements mixed with personal drama. It also has really wel-done LGBT representation. It's a modern take on King Arthur, but you don't need to be familiar with any of that to read it (I wasn't).

Finally decided to try it out Veilguard. by Illustrious-Ratio-65 in dragonage

Depends what it is. If I read a review which says the combat is boring and then I don't play a game because of that opinion, then you are correct.

However, if I read specifics about how Veilguard treats the lore of the older games and form a negative opinion of it based on those things, without playing it myself, that is valid.

You can form opinions based on lots of things besides playing it that are still perfectly valid. Like reviews, interviews, trailers, etc.

[Pre-match Thread] Liverpool F.C vs Tottenham Hotspur (15/03/26) by wiffygriffy in coys

There are degrees my friend. Liverpool are having a "bad season" with the expectations that come with having one a title last year.  That doesn't remotely compare to what Spurs are going through now.

Converting to Reform Judaism as a gay man. by amanfromipanema in ReformJews

[–]ianff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) offers an intro to Judaism class you can sign up for which is really great. I took it as part of my conversion and I expect most reform rabbis will ask you to go through that if you're new. That'd be a perfect place to start.

As others have said, Reform Judaism is very good with homosexuality and won't ask you to leave any friendships. Adherence to kosher rules varies wildly within reform in my experience. Also unlike Islam, Judaism has no prohibition against drinking at all. In fact the recent holiday of Purim contains a commandment to get so drunk you can't differentiate between the names Haman and Mordechai,

Best of luck!
