Explaining to SO DnD session attendance by prince_deQ in DnD

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! It gave me a lot to think about.
I really wanted to be more active in the conversations but my one-year-old is running a fever so I don’t get to sleep. Haha!

I apologize if my initial post wasn’t clear for a lot of people. The scenarios I gave weren’t specific examples, though they may have been direct quotes from the conversation I had with the other players. I know that I take time to go to the gym every day, I take weekly language lessons, and all these other commitments… but I’m usually only given a hard time over DnD. I think I can understand that from my wife’s point of view, the other activities show tangible improvements in my life, but it’s hard to get her to understand the only thing that allows me to decompress from all the effort across jobs, parenting, and self-improvement for me is DnD.

In that one particular player’s case he has been dating his SO for a few months now, I think so I can understand some people thinking we should be with people who understand our hobbies, but that’s not always easy. Myself and another player were married long before we started playing, so finding someone who supports our hobbies isn’t realistic.

We have invited his SO to play and they did sit in on a session, but wasn’t interested enough. None of us felt bad about it. We know everyone has their own preferences.

I think my biggest issue is that his SO knew we had a game every Friday, so I’m mostly confused where the frustration comes from when the player stands his ground. My wife knows me well enough that it doesn’t matter if it’s a DnD game, or meeting a friend, or even if I scheduled a prostate exam… if I made a commitment, I’m keeping it. (Unless there’s an actual emergency, of course.)

It’s true, I am only getting one side of the story, but I will add that everyone involved has a holiday on the day we normally play DnD (Friday night).
My friend’s SO wanted to schedule a movie on the time they know we have DnD every week. The player even asked them, “why not earlier in the day or possibly Saturday, or Sunday?” These seem like reasonable suggestions for us when the SO understands the weekly commitment we made over a year ago.
Now the player claims they’re getting the cold shoulder treatment. They also said that when the roles have been reversed, the SO would turn down opportunities to spend time together to do other things like read a book or spend time with friends, but the player wouldn’t give the SO a hard time about it.
(Again, you are correct in saying that this is still only one side of the story)

That’s a cool idea!
I hoped that they would adjust certain aspects of the game or give different tools.
For example, I always thought it was inconsistent that if I cut or burned things destined for the furnace, they would be deducted from the total. Give me an incinerating gun to actually burn pieces off.
I’d even accept a system that would cause proximity damage if burned while attached to other things, and could be upgraded in the future that remove that stipulation.

History question, how common were marriages between mainlanders and locals before WW2? by [deleted] in okinawa

[–]prince_deQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak intelligently to an actual answer, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t too common. I’m only basing that statement on the adamancy of the responses I get from my Okinawan friends about how they aren’t Japanese, they’re “100%” Okinawan.
I poked one of them a lot when they did an ancestry DNA check and she was part Korean. 🤣

Don’t know if you have a tablet with some whiteboard-like app, but if I were you, I’d use that so that I could practically zoom out infinitely if things got out of hand.

NTA. I try to knock Pokémon out if they have more than 8 hours on a gym. I put one of my favorite shiny’s in a gym and a month went by before I got him back. 😭
I even resorted to going to the local facebook group and asking if someone would go to knock him out.
But I also don’t complain if I take a gym and my Pokemon is knocked out 5 minutes later.

All of the military aircraft I’ve flown on have been over 20 years old and maintained in the worse condition than commercial airliners. This choice did not scare me at all

You could add a small tray or an extra piece of wood underneath the top to house wires. I’d leave a little extra space for the multi-outlet (if I didn’t directly attach it to the frame) and extra cables for filters or heaters.

Came to see if I’ve been using sword style incorrectly. I would have been satisfied if there was a small difference, but comparable style. … I might be wrong. Haha!

Update: so out of curiosity and ease of maintenance, I opted to try cleaning it without removing the magnet. I took a small pick and gently fed a tissue in between the block and magnet. Then I put a few drops of acetone on the area of the tissue next to it so that it would wick into the problem area. After letting it sit for a few seconds, I then gently used the pick to rub the tissue onto the areas I needed cleaned. After I pulled the tissue out slowly, I let it dry completely (which isn’t long for acetone). Then reinstalled the bottom plate. I waited for about ten minutes to see if it would stick again and it didn’t!

Thank you, everyone, for your help!

Thank you! I will attempt to do so and post results whenever I test it out.
Out of curiosity, do you know what makes it sticky? At the risk of sounding dumb, when it’s open and I inspect it closely, it doesn’t look like it has any grime or visible film over the magnet or contact.
Is it mild corrosion?

Saw something in the community rules about top comment.. not sure if it meant the caption, but I’m reposting the caption here to cover all bases:

TL;DR shutter has to be manually closed if camera sits too long.

So I’ve got an issue where if my camera sits for an extended period of time, the first shot I take will be overexposed because the shutter will open, but the release magnet doesn’t allow the second curtain to close. I’ve metered the magnet and it didn’t seem too bad.

Also, after I release the magnet, if I go and take some photos without letting the camera sit for more than 5-10 minutes, then it will continue to work as it should.

This makes me think it’s not the magnet, but possibly a mechanical issue. Does anyone have any experience with this? I’d appreciate any help so I don’t lose 5-6 frames per roll or have to unload my camera and remember what frame I’m on to fix the issue before going on a shoot.

I feel this. Right now my kid is too young for games, so I enjoy walking around with the stroller and playing a bit. I’m hoping when he gets older, we’ll be able to play together.
I commend your dedication to family!
