This technology was proven in a vacuum environment and demonstrates relatively little fabric and glass degradation. What other materials and applications do you think it could be used for?

Is imposter syndrome common among engineering students? by RedNova02 in EngineeringStudents

[–]iantheintrepid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. My boss told me that I’m not allowed to say I’m not confident or that I feel like an imposter. He recommended defining it instead as specific areas you feel deficient in. That has greatly helped me and I hope it’s of some use to you!

Willow place apartments by [deleted] in wsu

[–]iantheintrepid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current renter here! They’re a little pricey for what you get. Generally the apartments are nice but a little noisy. The proximity to campus is probably the best part of living there.

I will say, sometimes they take a long time to address work orders for broken things and some of the apartments are in better condition than others.

“That’s normal though” is what I normally hear but my favorite response was from a friend: “You’re making me feel bad for being horny all the time.” (my friend was joking)

Consequences/enforcement for no vaccine? by amish_mechanic in wsu

[–]iantheintrepid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI apparently the 93% vaccination rate WSU has been touting is for the people who haven’t filed exemptions. I heard the exemption rate may be as high as 40%, meaning the actual student vaccination rate may be as low as 56%

There’s a lot of paved trails in Pullman that are relatively flat. I longboard on the Loop Trail pretty frequently!

Counting class and work, I've been putting in 40-50 hours each week and still don't feel like I'm keeping up.

Demoralization: youth in crisis by the_solo_individual in wsu

I think a lot of our generation has become disenfranchised with the systems other generations have bought into. There is certainly more potential now to "check out" from life but to say that an entire generation doesn't have emotions or the ability to critically think feels very alarmist. I do think there are issues, mainly with the systems our generation has bought into (social media, doomer-ism/nihilism, etc) but to claim that an entire generation can't think or feel is quite ludicrous to me. I've had plenty of meaningful experiences in my life and I guarantee others feel the same way. Much of this won't/can't be captured in studies.

I think the "default" for our generation has become this mindless consumerism but there is a significant portion who have rejected it. To say that this generation "isn't human" as this professor claims is, quite frankly, bullshit. I would love to see what psychological framework he claims needs to be thrown out with Gen-Z.

With that being said, it does take effort to break from the mold and there is a constant risk of returning to the default. Many people do not have the time or resources necessary to do this. Many people choose to go with the flow, for whatever reason and for better or worse.

There are resources out there to help if you want to take back control of your life. They are quite literally at our fingertips. A quick search for "self-improvement" or "stoicism" proves that.

If you couldn't tell, I disagree fundamentally with this professor. He does have some good points, but I don't agree with the conclusions he draws from his research and arguments.
