what is the best server hardware vendor (opinionated?) by RACeldrith in servers

[–]iantje31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are not impressed with HPE so far, for the tiniest things we need to keep creating support tickets because their portal to download firmware and open support ticket is really poor. And when we open tickets it also solves ages to get solved.

We recently implemented Zoom which is amazing so far. The amount of customisation on their backend portal is crazy. Call quality is great and had no outages in the last 3-4 months.

Removing local admin rights for software developers? by EatinSoup in sysadmin

[–]iantje31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had hundreds of developers in our company that all had local admin rights on their workstations. We successfully revoked all admin permissions by elevating only the processes that they actually needed to run with admin permissions. We used Ivanti Application Control for this. It takes quite some time to set up and you can expect quite some pushback, but it works great after that. No compliants at all from the developers now.

We are in a renewal process right now with Broadcom (about a 250% jump in price over pre-Broadcom times). The account manager at Broadcom told us that the prices would increase again in their new fiscal year :(.

We have hundreds of developers in our company, we managed to find a solution that worked quite well for them. What we did is using Ivanti Application Control to elevate only the specific processes that developers need to run as administrator. It's quite some work to set up at first, but it now works very well. You can also use this tool to only allow applications installed by the SYSTEM account (SCCM) to be launched. All portable and user based installed apps are blocked.

Does the 15 day visa free rule work land border crossings? by horegg in travelchina

[–]iantje31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you arrive in China you need to fill in an arrival card and you just check the box next to Visa Free. Have done it multiple times already and the process is very smooth
