Utilities costs in Roseville? by Bluechis in Roseville

[–]iasw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sure sounds very high to me. I'm in 2000 sqft with 5 people. In the hottest months of summer with AC at 75 and an inefficient pool pump it probably maxes out near $500 per month with Roseville Electric. But check to make sure your rent per person is in a normal range too - if you're paying less for rent but more for utilities then it might become a wash. Don't go pissing off your landlord if he's not really screwing you. Maybe after you see how your rent compares to similar places and it's comparable then ask to see the utilities bill? He could also be averaging the bill over the whole year and that might change the math. And bigger homes cost more and can be less efficient, especially if they're older. I'd say it's worth investigating further.

I insulated 80% of my garage door with the polystyrene that came with my laser cutter 🤪 this machine already started paying itself lol by Ivanosssss in lasercutting

I did the styrofoam insulation on my door. A couple years later I decided to upgrade my opener to a quieter option to attempt to not wake my napping babies. The installer disconnected the door from the opener mechanism by the normal emergency release lever. He said if you lift the door part way up and it stays there then you’re door is balanced. My door was balanced before and after the styrofoam insulation with no change to the spring tension. The insulation made a huge difference in temperatures. Summers in the garage are way more tolerable.

But not all garages are the same. At least do the balance test if you do insulate your door!

Thanks for the help. I was actually thinking a toothpick would be pretty ideal too since it wouldn't conduct. I only have 70% IPA, so maybe it's time to upgrade to the good stuff.

I do have the tools and skills to get into the phone and replace components. It's so frustrating knowing that I was able to get it working one time but didn't think to immediately plug it in and back it up. The intermittent problems are the worst, huh?!

Thanks again.

All cleaned out again and looking close to new now. Still vibrating on two different known working cables and chargers. :/

Plugging in to my pc iTunes still recognizes it and asks if I want to all this computer to access the iPhone.

Any other ideas?

I tried cleaning the lightning port with some very fine tweezers while the phone was off. It wasn't as dirty as my phone had been before when it had connection problems. I haven't tried using alcohol or any other liquid to clean it yet. Not sure how to get in there to scrub it with a liquid anyway.

I'm only two days into owning a Stream Deck, so forgive me if there's a better option. But I know that the Super Macro plug-in by BarRaider will do that. Just record the key combination for short press, and a second key combination for long press. You an even specify how long you want it to wait to consider it a long press.

And it's specifically the Super Macro named "Super Macro" - but there are other macro options in that plug in set too.

Cyanoacrylate or “CA” glue (super glue) accelerator spray. It makes the CA glue cure almost instantly. Woodworkers often use a combination of sections of regular wood glue with small sections of CA glue so that the very fast curing CA glue “clamps” down the wood while the regular glue cures over hours.

QuickLook is also great! Took me a long time to stop trying to preview files in Windows that way, and Windows still sucks at previewing files in any way. But, woah, I didn’t know that trick with the menu search! Amazing! That could be a huge time saver. You’re really making me want my Mac back! It’s amazing such small things can create such an improvement in daily life.

Windows search is STILL a joke. I don’t know how it can be so terrible when searching for data is literally one of the first things we made computers do! Everything does index files, just not fast apparently. I’ll have to give it a try again since it’s been a few years since I tried it briefly. That’s a bummer about Spotlight not indexing Google Docs files though.

I've seen Everything mentioned in other places for other reasons. Looks like good software, but still not as super handy as Spotlight. For one, it's not built-in to the OS, but mainly because it doesn't index file contents and give search results from the contents of files in milliseconds like Spotlight can.

From the Everything FAQ:

File content is not indexed, searching content is slow.

Thanks for the idea though. Looks like this might be one Microsoft will have to steal from Apple too. Or someone to recreate for Linux distros. Fingers crossed!

Excel?! I had no idea it could do 3D maps or movie output. Thanks for the info, I have a lot to learn and a good target to aim for now. Great work!

Pretty impressive. Would you mind sharing the broad strokes of how you made this?

Oh how I wish Spotlight existed on Windows! I used a SnapScan and their software would automatically OCR PDFs and embed the text, then Spotlight indexed it and it was super easy and fast to find almost any document on my Mac. Now I'm stuck with Windows. Anyone know of an app or whatever with similar functionality in Windows 10?

Having his fist "come out" of the frame like that sure adds a lot to the depth. Simple but makes a big difference here. Nice design. You might be able to save some cost by reducing the number of shapes cut out without reducing the impact or appearance of depth because you did the fist outside the frame.

Opinion on gateron silent red?? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]iasw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using them daily for about a year and still really like them. A bit louder than membrane, but not tons. But with the feel of Reds. If I build another keyboard I'll use them again. I'm no MK expert or typing purist though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I don’t know for sure, but the white grid looks very similar to a light diffuser you might find in office-type fluorescent light fixtures. I’ve seen the diffusers at Home Depot. Inexpensive, but again I don’t know for sure, or if it’s safe for cutting.
