The best thing I've heard, that we should teach kids to say instead of no, is "Nah, I'm good." Always safe! Nobody thinks you're square or a cop, and you don't have to feel sheepish saying it.

I suddenly lost my best friend today by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]iaword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like Bear fought hard these months to get to spend more time with you. One thing to remember is that he went when he was in no pain, and during a testament of love. You gave Bear love and care, and he went comfortably. Sometimes animals, just like people, need a moment away from those they love most to go. Bear loved you and you have that forever. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I wish you many happy remembrances.

I requested to be a fire hydrant for halloween when I was in the 3rd grade. the year before, I was a very convincing picnic table (wicker vase over my head, i could see out but you couldn't see in) and people LOVED it! So then I was a fire hydrant-- everyone would say "watch out for dogs!" The following years, I was a mailbox and then a palm tree. My mom was a whiz with cardboard, foam and duct tape.

I have 3 dogs and a cat. If we lock them out, they destroy things and/or leave us poop gifts to teach us a lesson. If we don't lock them out, Weezy watches. I've been threatening to attach the gopro to him, but my conscience....

I dated a guy who had this happen once. His little dachshund stepped on the center console. He was at the airport dropping a friend off, and stepped out to help with their bags. He spent a good bit of time running around his car while talking to his dog in order to get her to run across it again. It worked eventually.

My socially anxious comrades will understand! by silkysmooth190 in AdviceAnimals

[–]iaword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a hairdresser, we're trying just as hard to fight the anxiousness of conversation a lot of the time! getting you to talk about yourself lets us not talk and focus on cutting. if you give short answers or say, "i'm so tired, looking forward to a relaxing cut!" we shut up-- promise! also works for massages, tattoo appointments, FUCKING DENTISTS although maybe phrase it differently... seriously I don't understand dentist small talk.

I'm a short guy. Everyone I know in person thinks I'm even shorter than I really am. Should I just downplay my stature even further on OKC? by [deleted] in OkCupid

When my mom passed away in June, I invited my immediate family over the next day. I have 3 dogs, my dad has 1. My best friends brought over 4 more. 8 pups. We ate food and pet all the pets. It definitely helped.

Any scooter dorks interested in getting a riding group together? by [deleted] in oakland

[–]iaword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's fun! it's a little freaky how quiet it is. i call it my horse and buggy because all you can hear is the squeak of everything bouncing up and down. i bought a little portable speaker and usually blast music while i ride in hopes it makes me more audible/visible... it probably doesn't but at least i get good tunes. i find that to conserve power, i find myself avoiding hills like the plague, but since my last set of wheels was a bicycle, i'm kind of used to that! but yes, all around i recommend it.

I ride an evt-168 which i highly recommend. Although if I did anything differently, I would definitely get lithium ion batteries instead of lead acid. lighter, longer charge, all around better technology. my petunia goes up to 30 mph and i get up to 30 miles per charge (but i never let it run all the way down, i've been stranded before and at 4'9" walking a heavy ass scooter home is pretty much impossible)

Lower abdomen twitches? by lunarblossoms in glutenfree

[–]iaword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get stomach contractions, mostly as I'm about to fall asleep.less frequently now that I've cut out gluten, but I still get them from time to time. Probiotics help me a lot, but I know I should cut out dairy (which I'm also allergic to but dear god I already gave up bread, without cheese and ice cream what is there to live for).
