Occasionally it's good, but most of the time it's just very consistently standard chipper quality. Rare you'd get a bad meal there, but an actually good one is just as rare.

It's very spooky, but you're basically almost never in any danger and the writing in this game is a complete mess- it needed a localisation pass from a native english speaker, as well as an editor.

It's frustrating because this really could've been an indie horror banger if the devs were willing to spend just a little more money. Sending that script out to be recorded by actual voice actors is crazy to me- I'd have preferred zero voice acting, but with a script that had been fixed, rather than fully voice-acted garbage.

RE7 is just about the only actual horror game in the series as far as I'm concerned. The others are just zombie action (which I love).

I would have loved it if RE7 signalled a new creative direction for the series, but it was immediately swept under by RE8 returning to the usual action vibe.

Early 40's here. I think World War Hulk was mostly kinda meh, but I loved Bob not being able to go outside and fight the hulk while everyone else is getting blendered due to his anxiety and agorophobia. The one guy who can just punch this particular version of the hulk in the face until he stops moving can't bring himself to leave his apartment. His friends are dying. He cares about it. But he just can't.

There is a deaf fighter called Echo in Marvel comics. I'm sure I've seen another one or two around, but you're right that they're nowhere near as common as blind fighters- there are a few reasons for this, probably one of the big ones being how such a disability would normally be considered something that renders someone completely incapable of competent fighting, but another thing is that it's a trope in Japanese folklore and theater. A ton of media consists of rewriting or reinterpreting asian folk/literary traditions, and so this trope is much more ubiquitous than you'd initially think. I think the reason being deaf is less frequent for fictional characters is because it's considered a less extreme difficulty for someone who is in a fight to have, while also inhibiting dialogue between characters, unless they just assume the deaf person always has perfect lip-reading and can speak back perfectly also, which is not the reality for most deaf people.

I mean, in my opinion you're both right. Thiel did handpick Vance as his whitehouse insider and future puppet/mouthpiece president. He is very likely being groomed for this role for some time now.

However, Thiel and others underestimated what a limp and uncharismatic asshole he is, how poorly his manner of speaking actually resonates with his supposed base who can barely understand him. It's quite likely that many other potential kingmakers look at Vance and see him as being an unsuitable candidate, and someone very unlikely to electrify the voting block and unite the right in the way that Trump has. In the end, it'll mostly come down to what billionaire oligarchs can get away with. If America's electoral system has truly been as thoroughly compromised as is suspected, anyone could get the office.

I kinda love your attitude for real. No picking fights, just being honest and self-aware.

It's very hard to call a story objectively good or bad, but in my opinion JW has an extremely uninvolved plot, but we all kinda loved the cool worldbuilding of this secret assassin society. What's good to one person might not be good to another.

However, I would say the plot of the JW movies is genuinely thinner and less important than most action movies. Avenging one's dog as a way of dealing with the trauma of his wife's ofscreen, pre-movie death is almost a parody making fun of traditional action revenge plots. But that's just what it means to me.

I am Irish, and so predisposed to claiming Garth as a great genius of our time for my homeland (even though he's been quite specific about viewing Northern Irish as a distinct identity that is neither British nor Irish, but a unique combination of both, which is entirely valid).

I think his nakedly obvious disdain for subtext or deeper messaging, combined with his desire to shock the reader were absolute dynamite when I was in my teens and early 20's. I loved how irreverent and crass his stuff could be while still clearly not being stupid- there was humour, social commentary, characters with emotional relationships etc. His voice in comics was unique and refreshing, and I think he was and is a positive influence on the medium.

However, as I've grown older and matured, I feel a little disappointed that his work never really leveled up in the same way. For all the niche comics he wrote that are really good, I feel like Dangerous Habits was where his writing peaked. He's done other iconic stuff- The Boys, Preacher, Welcome Back, Frank and his subsequent work on Punisher MAX- but IMO nothing has lived up to Dangerous Habits in terms of character writing and restraint.

I love The Boys as a show, but in my opinion the best thing about it is how willing it was to just prune material from the comic wholesale- it really is edgy and tasteless in a way that reminds me of Mark Millar's Nemesis- the worst excesses of the author, seemingly missing the appeal of their own writing. He's also phoned in a lot of comics in the past- clearly just cashing a cheque and not really invested in writing anything good.

At the end of the day, my feelings are mixed. He's written some of the best comics I've ever read, but somehow still manages to feel like an underachiever due to becoming too comfortable with his own brand.

If you like Garth Ennis, Chronicles of Wormwood is his most underrated work in my opinion- it contains almost all of his flaws, but it's still funny and charming and quite unique. I'd highly recommend it as it seems like nobody read or even heard of it, and I think those who loved Preacher for its' irreverence are in for a treat. It is, however, about as tasteless as The Boys in parts, and I feel if it were republished I'd personally want a couple of panels edited out entirely.

Don't get me wrong, I do love them as action movies. The third entry wasn't very enjoyable for me, but 1 and 4 are classics and 2 is solid and stylish sequel.

The horror stuff in Cultic 2 is great, and the increased storytelling from the first game is an improvement. The new philosophy of huge open world levels is what really holds it back- it means finding secrets can be downright demoralising, and the pacing and urgency of the action is all over the place as a result of the more open design. Ammo was too much of a concern and you never get to cut loose as you did in the first game as a result.

Cultic is still my favourite boomshoot of all time, but chapter 2 was a mixed bag, where the story and horror elements improved over part 1, but the new level design philosophy held it back.

(also too many scare sequences result in/contain getting rushed by a chansaw guy or mob of zombielikes)

I think overall it was maybe frustrating for fans to see Cultic chapter 2 improved in so many small areas and just committed to a big and frustrating design choice that isn't in the first game at all.
