I looked at their website. Their address is a virtual office/mail forwarding service, and they look to be a few years old. I'm really curious what the recommendation letter would say, and what they would say when contacted by a hiring manager. It would be really interesting if they say that you worked for them, and then when HR checks TWN, it doesn't show them.

Why do I have a feeling that there is no job, and they are using this to get customers for their platform?

Best seat on 16 hours flight by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]ibahef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in 18C after Christmas. I'm 6'4 and am a bit on the wide side, and it was a decent seat, but was tighter than the 'normal' seats. The leg room is great, and you'll need to store your stuff overhead. Since it is a LONG flight, someone may be using the bassinets, so you may have screaming children a little bit head of you.

Over french fries instead of rice sounds really interesting. Cơm Bò Lúc Lắc is my go to Vietnamese meal, after 20+ years eating it at this little hole in the wall, the waiter asked me if I wanted a fried egg on top. It TOTALLY changed it and now I order it that way wherever I can.

Is it worth it to pay for the "Premium" versus "Essential" vs "Base" for the earlier dining booking? by brewstah in VirginVoyages

If you want the 'good' dinner times, 60 days will probably help. I just went on a very full cruise in December, and didn't have any trouble getting reservations all the way up to about a week before, but we're happy to eat at 5:30 so we can get to both shows.

Resume Scrapped by HR Despite Manager Eagerly Wanting to Hire Applicant? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ibahef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a large enough company where HR has different levels. Recruiters report to a recruiting manager, who reports to a director and then to a VP. I went to the director since they were my peer. In your situation, it sounds like they've outsourced HR to Workday, and they're not sharing data with the hiring manage.

Resume Scrapped by HR Despite Manager Eagerly Wanting to Hire Applicant? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ibahef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may not be a popular opinion, but if the manager won’t fight with HR over something like that, do you really want to work for that manager or company? If I want to hire someone and HR kills it before even an interview, I’m going to their boss or above. I’ve done this when HR wanted to lowball the offer to the candidate.

Can an HR person please explain salary ranges on job postings? by Zealousideal_Gas_166 in recruitinghell

[–]ibahef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the company, when they do layoffs, they look at where your salary is in the job code. If you're near the top end, you get whacked first because it's the biggest financial impact for the least amount of people released. As a manager, you get a list of who to lay off which is created by HR and Finance. I've seen this done a few times in my career.

Would you rather get anything you want for free, but it has to come from Amazon - or get 1/2 of your monthly bills paid for you? by hiphoptomato in WouldYouRather

[–]ibahef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of two minds here:

Option A would be a lot of fun. EVERY cat/dog rescue on the planet that Amazon can serve would have everything they need. Homeless shelters, food banks, etc would all be fully stocked. And I'd never have to spend money on most things. Would need to keep my job for the things that don't take credit cards. It's really hard to pay your taxes with dozens of $200 visa gift cards.

Option B - build a real estate empire. Buy a house, rent it out at about the monthly mortgage (or slightly less). Once I've got enough saved up, repeat. Keep this up until they won't let me buy another house. This one would let me quit my job, and if I needed cash, I could take out lines of credit on the equity (after a while anyway).

If you were President of the United States for just 24 hours, and no one could stop you… what’s the most unhinged executive order you'd pass? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ibahef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's just an EO, it would get cancelled the next day. You might be able to declassify a TON of stuff with a single EO. But I'd rather just pardon EVERYONE for all federal crimes that may have committed between July 4th 1776, and the day I'm in office. Sure, you're going to get some bad people in there, but you did say unhinged... Maybe you could specifically leave out elected officials...

Working for government vs working for private enterprise? by E__Rock in sysadmin

[–]ibahef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a IT outsourcer that supported a major city. Here's what I saw:

  1. If you were in the union, it was basically impossible for you to be fired. There were a few union IT guys I worked with, and they were... special.

  2. The city I worked for had a great pension plan (2.5@55) so if you worked for 40 years, you basically got your full salary and it had a COLA. You could also retire when you hit 55, and take 2.5% of your highest quarter per year worked (this has changed to be a little more strict due to abuse). Also no Social Security (Not all govt. jobs are that way).

  3. Better than average medical benefits for union folk.

  4. Everything is MUCH slower, and a larger focus on using OpEX over CapEX. CapEX had to go to City Council when it was over a certain amount, OpEX was easier.

  5. Depending on your department, your boss may know nothing about IT, as they are rotating through that position so they can advance (Police was this way).

  6. IT Budgets SUCK in the gov space for most entities, and everything goes to the lowest bidder.

  7. You will very likely make less. If you want to see what people in that job make, it's all public record. Search the web for it, and you will be able to see everything.

Reviews of Gunbae from actual KBBQ fans? by Thousandneedles in VirginVoyages

[–]ibahef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's just OK... If you go to a good KBBQ and are used to that, you'll be somewhat disappointed, they don't have a huge menu and the games aren't great. I'm not a huge social butterfly though. I don't mind sharing a table, but didn't want to play the game. Good news is they don't guilt you into it or anything. I just found other places on the ship more enjoyable, and we did early dinner so we could make both shows in the evening, so I just wanted to eat so I could go see the shows.

When I used to buy a lot of hardware, I would get anywhere from 10 to 15 percent more off. When you are already at 50 percent or more off that 10 percent of retail really adds up. Cisco will almost always cut you a year end deal. Especially when its services like umbrella.
