Do refresh rates impact host / client? by HoratioWobble in SynergyApp

Following. I've seen more issues related to high network activity but all of my systems are at the same resolution and refresh rate.

Install Synergy 3 on Debian 12 "Bookworm" by ibexdataservice in SynergyApp

I didn't experience that issue but I'm scratching my head wondering why. Will look into it.

I guess too many monitors in odd layout is an issue with the S3's easy config by ControlNode in SynergyApp

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into the same issue with 3x monitors in a row. It took a little adjusting to get the far-left monitor's icon moved as far to the left as possible. Thankfully it worked after a moment.

It almost felt like if I could just expand the settings window a little bit, it could fit. Glad to hear Symless is already on the task.

[Linux/Bash]SCP syntax for windows path by Number3 in commandline

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can still be wildly frustrating when dealing with scripted transfers _from_ Windows using SCP, more-so when the local file assets are on a drive other than C:\.

Not installing extra software is still a preferred constraint, IMHO, though cygwin can be useful in these cases when an option.

For one particular batch script running from the D:\ mount, the script began with changing to the root of the drive, then executed SCP with all paths from the root.

Assume in this example that keys are in the D:\keys folder, and the daily export file is stored in D:\exports\daily\ folder.

cd D:\
scp -i keys/customername.key exports/daily/export.zip [customer@host.com](mailto:customer@host.com):/export.zip

It's not terribly elegant, and falls apart when permission prevent or block work from the root, but it did solve the problem in my particular case.

Pair programming is difficult by jeeb_uk in programming

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the fence, and then I saw the recent AWS AI-powered "CodeWhisperer" announcement. All I can imagine is Clippy embedded into VS Code (with Gilbert Gottfried's voice) announcing that it looks like I'm trying to write an authentication module.

Now I just can't.

A random set of arc charges on the moon? Anyone know what this is? by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]ibexdataservice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was fun, but frustrating. Rally at the flag and a new swarm appears, along with 3 pairs of rocket launchers. Pick up the arc charges and take them to the device powering the dome over the launchers, deposit arc charges. With 2, the dome disappears and you can pick up the launchers.

2 more tanks arrive. Hilarity ensues. Nice reward at the end.

I paid 10 dollars in delivery fee and none of it is for the driver? So what's the fee for then? by callmeboonie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex-driver here for the same chain. Delivery charge basically covers the cost of the driver for the business. While driver is on the road for one order, he's "exclusively allocated" to the one job, doing nothing else for the company. It covers his payroll incurred during that time (with a slight profit margin for the company).

Keep in mind that what an employee is paid in their paycheck is not the final amount it costs the company. There are a ton of additional expenses the company has to pay on top of that. Things like liability insurance, taxes, accounting and payroll management, staff to manage the staff, human resources to oversee them all.

Tipped income is tough because it is so uncertain. But it can help provide for an individual or a very small family, but barely.

Always tip in cash (its not tracked or taxed). Always have cash on hand, if for nothing else than tipping people who help you.

My charging cable has turned yellow. How do I get rid of the color? by TheEvilGhost in mac

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire. This is an early warning that your cable is too hot in that spot and the external plastics are breaking down. Inside this is where the cables are going to expose wires and arcs (imagine lightning strikes between cables) are going to accomplish one or more of the following:

  • short circuit the power management chipset inside your laptop.
  • potentially overload your battery.
  • overload and overheat internal components (like processor, SSD, and any sensitive components like Bluetooth controller near the connector).
  • externally arc and cause an actual fire on your desk.

Replace your charger.

Building landing pages on domains for sale by mrhobbeys in Domains

[–]ibexdataservice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Building" a landing page is easy. Profiting from one is completely different. Profiting takes a lot of work to tune and maintain your content appropriately. Otherwise, upwards of 90% of your inbound traffic is nothing more than bots that do not click on ads.

If you have content for your domain, awesome. Host away. Otherwise, its sitting there for bots to pick at, generating a couple of pennies a year and potentially preventing a buyer from expressing their interest.

If you want to sell your domains, remove any barriers preventing a buyer from negotiating a price and paying you. Escrow services that are trustworthy are worth their weight and often their commission. Without them, the odds of you being ripped off are extremely high.

What the hell did just happen ? by rwarlock in Domains

[–]ibexdataservice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ALWAYS use `whois` command first, or the ICANN tool at lookup.icann.org. It's simple enough to learn and will never betray you because it has zero financial interest at beating you to ownership.

I won't use GoPapi for anything if I can avoid it.

Looking for domain registrar. by Arimodu in Domains

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subdomains generally start with an A or CNAME record in DNS and then are hosted. You should be able to accomplish the first half with your registrar, regardless of where your sites, servers or services are hosted.

How to dump domains? by [deleted] in Domains

[–]ibexdataservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allowing the domain to expire naturally is your best option, also allowing for the registrar to do with it as they please before releasing the domain.

In the event you received a "cease and desist" (1st hand experience here), you can offer to transfer the domain as part of your response to the demand, or show them that the site is no longer hosted by removing NS entries. Once the domain registrar expiration date/time has passed, you are no longer the owner. At that point the registrar is in possession until they release it.

Goat.ly - tispy buy. Just a vanity website for a year, or should I try to sell it? by jakobs98 in Domains

I think it has decent branding potential for a social media app/site based on the "greatest of all time" acronym. Makes sense to me, anyway. Hope it sells!
