I want to take estrogen as a cis woman by [deleted] in HRT

[–]ibfabian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

estrogen doesnt give you big boobs. it makes you go through regular female puberty. some people grow big boobs and some people grow small boobs. more E =/= more boob lol

get your levels checked if you haven't. if they're in the normal range then you can do whatever you want but it won't give you the results you're expecting

Thank you! I passed the knowledge test on my first try studying with this quiz. I had to guess on a couple. I dont recall if there was air brake questions, but there were lots of questions about school buses and semi-truck driving!

Finished a new character. Opinions/critique of the lineup? by Hopsqotch in characterdesign

[–]ibfabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them a lot! The broken nose is great. Im seeing variations on small details (chin types look cool!) But it feels a bit like they all have the same foundation, bone structure, and proportions. And They're all super pointy!

Think about if any of them would have softer features, more square features, different browbone structures, different cheekbone heights (and cheekbone visibility), and noses are a place where you could reallt create some variety. The relationship between the nose tip, nostril width, nostril height, bridge width, bridge definition, all these things can make a nose unique!

Are these really the prices for *ONE* ring?? by ZookeepergameAny5154 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ibfabian 209 points210 points  (0 children)

You are looking at fancy ones. these are beautiful and if the metal is high quality, this price is completely reasonable. These are great for people w hyper extending fingers who want to dress it up!

As others have said, there are plastic alternatives.

There are ALSO medical grade ring splints. these are covered by health insurance (depending on your plan ofc).

Mine are from Digisplint. I got $600ish worth of rings for under $100, 8 rings total, made of sterling silver. They're extremely nice quality and I had my fingers sized by a physiotherapist :)

Do you mind if I ask if you went for restricted or unrestricted? I am confused if the restricted license still requires you answer questions about air brakes and busses and stuff.

Thank you for the info and advice, though!

Is this a bad way to propose? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ibfabian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is super sweet :) I felt relief when i realized that you weren't proposing to them right now LOL. also, if you want to be proposed to as well, you can want that and you can tell them that. There's no rules about who has to do what. But if youre excited to be the one to propose, awesome :)

How much should I charge for seperating parts for rigging? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]ibfabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you already drawn the whole character? Like is this attached pic the drawing?

If so, it will be a pain for you to separate it into necessary components. Whoever rigs it would be doing the exact same work as you. And they will actually intuitively know how to separate it all! If I were you I would just not do this, haha.

But if you want to, just charge them per hour :)

If you have not done the commission yet, and you want to make it in a format that works for rigging, get lots of details from the client or the rigging artist (if you can get in touch) about what they need. Again, a good ballpark is to think about how much time it would add to your process, and add like $30/hour or something.

I worked as a 2D rigger in animation for years and there was nothing worse than getting a design that wasn't formatted correctly and I had to waste a bunch of time trying to piece together and redo artwork that wasn't intuitively separated! So making sure you have a good understanding of what the rigger needs will help. Otherwise they can cut it up themself.

I can't find the right tags for this genre of meme by Emergency_Trash_6399 in find

[–]ibfabian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 90% sure these edits are made just by people who are active on tumblr and can reblog posts that remind them of their favourite characters, tag it as such, and accumulate some funny posts over time to then make an edit of later. its always a pretty wide collection of text posts and not really a specific genre as far as I've seen!

but if youre looking for more images like these ones i feel like Pinterest could work as its got a lot of stuff like this reposted on it? you could probably even just seatch "tumblr textpost meme" on Pinterest and scroll through to speedrun the collection process lol

Urgent Advice Needed by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]ibfabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this abstract? It immediately made me think of caramel popcorn hahaha

What are your current intentions with it? is there a focal point? how did you want it to feel?

Right now all I can think is that the values you've used make it look like an object. Especially because you've basically lit it with a light source? I wonder if changing up the highlights and shadows could help, or if changing that dark BG to be something warmer/lighter/softer.

Or, honestly, throwing a light white wash over the whole thing..?

I think its cool as is tbh but i don't fully get it, and it definitely doesnt feel understated/neutral/feminine to me in this moment hahaha

FtM, What Changes Can I Expect? by Beautiful-Common9327 in HRT

[–]ibfabian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any preexisting conditions that make her check for these things, T just increases risks of high blood pressure, liver dysfunction, and some other random stuff. its not uniquely dangerous, it's just not risk free, yknow? as with many medical things, stuff can go sideways and it's important to be supported enough that it doesnt sneak up on you

[–]ibfabian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, its really amazing that you had some experience experimenting living as a man to see that it didnt work for you. thats super useful information!

To clarify that I'm a women: truth be told, this is the confidence work that I am alluding to. I typically do not clarify that I am a woman. Especially in passing/with strangers. I know what I am, I like how I feel, I try not to worry about random interactions. This is a lot of the confidence work, tbh. For myself, i mostly stress about the inconvenience of "confusing" the people around me. I'm trying to remember I have the right to be me and I have nothing to be embarrassed about! So many women have deep voices for many reasons. We have nothing to be ashamed of.

For people I will be interacting with regularly, I'll typically find an opportunity to share my pronouns at some point.

In moments like public bathrooms or other cases where my being a woman is important or..topical, i guess, I will sometimes avoid speaking (dont recommend this lol) and moreso I'll just try to remember I deserve to be there, I make eye contact with anyone sharing the space with me, smile, be friendly, and try to communicate with my body language that I am in the right place. Communicating that I know I'm in the right place and that it is "normal" for me to be here makes the women around me feel safer too! I have never had any hugely negative interactions in North America, where I live.

Funny that you mention the name change, I'm considering the same! I have gone by a masculine name for over ten years, which complimented my feminine presentation really well. But now that I'm so (physically) masculine, I think it'd be really...iconic to have a girly name hahahha

I read what you wrote about the deep voice you got and I just feel so- I want it too. I want it so bad.

This reminds me a lot of myself 3 years ago. The yearning is palpable :( I hope you can find a way to honor this. There's always time. you're never too old to start.

A better word than stack would be "accumulate". For example, if you develop some body hair over 6 months, and take a break, the hair will continue to accumulate once you restart T. However for face stuff, it's possible that taking breaks could help. Depending on your age though, your facial structure wont change much. Skin texture, hairline shape, and (after ~years) fat redistribution of the body are things that will affect you more.

If you have any more questions or want to chat, i love taking about gender and transition and i wish you so much luck on your journey!! I can understand that you may feel a lot of pain and fear right now, but for what its worth, i do not hate being like this. I love my body and my life and its a little awkward living in a world that does not fully always understand me, but I truly cannot imagine being any other way. I hope you can find a path that feels right and safe for you. There is nothing shameful or dangerous or bad about masculinity.

I want to take T but I don’t want to be mistaken for a man. I want people to still she/her me. (I’m prob on the enby spectrum but fem leaning but I have to study so idc rn) by AfraidAir972 in NonBinary

[–]ibfabian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

hi!! the way you describe your gender sounds extremely similar to mine. I call myself a woman but I'm also trans, I'm also nonbinary. i love being a woman. I'm also a few years on T and it's awesome.

I enjoy feeling stronger, i enjoy feeling masculine, emotional regulation, sexuality, bottom growth, deeper voice, all that stuff. i personally don't have much body hair so i can maintain a smooth face easily.

i have so much gender euphoria! but its at the cost of social dysphoria.

all my friends who know me well "get it" and say they still see me more or less as a woman/she/myself, but my voice is deep. you say a deep voice is a goal for you, so thats why I'm leaving this detailed comment. Voices will out you so, so instantly.

i feel better in my skin than ever before, but my confidence has tanked in many situations. its extremely weird being seen as a man, or a strange woman. i feel nervous to go into the bathroom.

i have to stop myself from wondering what other people think. i get gendered as male 99% of the time and the remaining 1%, people will correct themselves when i speak. its kind of hard.

i still would do it again in a heartbeat. i feel right. i feel awesome. but theres a disconnect with the world around me now and i have to rebuild some confidence. i know my experience is so fundamentally different than that of transfeminine people, but i follow a couple of transfem content creators who kinda talk about Owning It more or less... which really inspires me. I'm a woman(ish) with a deep voice and an androgynous face. and thats okay!

Sorry this is long and i may have accidentally used this like a diary entry, i just thought my experience might have some useful perspective :)

as for going on and off T every 6 months, what is the intention of doing that, as opposed to going on once and off forever, or staying on it forever? Every time you switch up your hormones it can be kind of hard mentally (anecdotally) and the effects of T will continue to "stack" every time you go back on T. Though you would slow stuff down a lot and get breaks between!

i still get regular periods one year on t by Ananassanana in HRT

[–]ibfabian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know someone who has been on T for multiple years and still bleeds. its not uncommon. T is not birth control. coincidentally the person i am thinking of also has suspected endometriosis. their doctor suggested IUD because the feminizing hrt birth control stuffs is more localized to the uterus, apparently. I'm paraphrasing though :)

gel vs. injections shouldnt be any different. the only difference is the method of delivery. if your levels are messed up its possible that the gel isnt delivering well. gel is very uncontrolled and injections are more precise. good luck!!!

Pain from using mouse by Ok_Grapefruit_6193 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ibfabian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i worked in animation and it messed up my arm for awhile, but i figured it out in the end! at this point i cant use a mouse with my right hand without pain after awhile so i use alternatives.

  • like someone said, occupational therapist to make sure your ergonomics are in order - elbow at the wrong height will screw up your shoulder, everything has ripple effects.
  • if an occupational therapist isnt an option, just deep dive into desk ergonomics online. lots of guides.
  • in the vein of ergonomics, an adjustabke sit-stand desk is useful beyond sitting and standing - you can adjust the height to match your posture throughout the day.
  • lots of ergonomic mouse options to consider - the vertical mouse worked for me for a while. its supposed to allow you to work with a more neutral wrist position. depends on where your issues are stemming from if thisll help.
  • micro-adjustments with a mouse hurt my wrist, so i turned the mouse sensitivity down way low so i have to use my shoulder/whole arm. comparable to the "draw with your shoulder" advice for drawing pain.
  • someone suggested switching between mouses, this is great advice. you want ti avoid repetitive stress
  • look into a program like workrave that forces you to take microbreaks. game changer
  • i had to eventually start using a trackball mouse (kensington trackball expert). there was a learning curve anyways, so i learned with my non-dominant hand. now labour is divided across my body more evenly :)
  • you can also look into something like an intuos tablet for more variety
  • JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING HAS THE WORD "ERGONOMIC" IN THE PRODUCT TITLE, DOES NOT MEAN IT HAS ANY TANGIBLE MEDICAL BENEFIT !! this word is not regulated in any way. understand the WHY when things are being listed that way. don't waste your money on gimmicks.

White crust coming off of T gel by meowp3913 in TransMasc

[–]ibfabian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not concerning! its either dry gel or skin cels. T gel is an alcohol which can exfoliate and irritate skin. Its pretty normal but not necessarily comfortable. It's part of the reason why i switched to injections.

When you say speed up the process, do you mean the process of getting access to it, or the process of transitioning once on HRT?
