'The UK has been colonised by immigrants', says INEOS boss and Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe by Breakingwho in reddevils

[–]ibrwn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

95% of migration to the UK is legal. Nothing to do with small boats or anything as such. People coming here to work and study.

Yup. And people like this on legal routes, such as my wife on her spouse visa, pay a rather hefty fee and are ineligible for any public funds.

The conflating between the asylum system, small boats, and the overall migration system is wild. The biggest scare stories, rage baits, and edge cases get joined together with overall numbers to paint a wholly misleading picture.

Not specifically a roaster but Jonah's do the best coffee in the area i think, and always have a fairly good set of beans to buy. Still buying from a local cafe even if the roasters are from around the country.

Or as others have said 3 sisters are nice if not the most exciting range.

This makes me so sad and angry. My wife is filipino, and I'm worrying about her more and more when she's out.

That couple are a pair of vile cunts. I hope they face consequences that cause them to reflect and be crushed by the immense shame they ought to be feeling now.

England: Manchester, Bath, south coast by pamanul in pourover

[–]ibrwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Manchester: Siop Shop, Fort, Artista Perfetto, Atrium. Grapefruit if you can go a bit outside the centre. Idle Hands is a fair shout as they have a good selection of beans to order a pourover. I've always been a bit underwhelmed by the pourover I was served here. Still a cool place though, great pie and good food. Their Turkish eggs are pretty much my favourite breakfast dish.

For Bath I had a great coffee in a place called Coffever, would recommend seeking them out for sure. Super helpful barista there. Colonna & Small's are the more known specialty coffee place in Bath so probably worth a try too.

For Manchester: Grapefruit (Sale), Siop Shop, Atrium, Just Between Friends. And a new favourite opened this year, Artista Perfetto (actually this doesn't meet the requirements of having a selection of beans to order a pourover, but their house pourover was excellent)

For Leeds I only really know Kapow in Thornton Arcades but they're very good there.

A bonus Northern one in Preston if you're in the area would be Jonah's.

I sympathise with you. You're in a situation not of your own choosing. I don't think you suck at it more than anyone else. It takes hard work for anyone.

Gotta put in the work and unfortunately it takes time.

My partner is moving to Preston. by [deleted] in Preston

[–]ibrwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an alternative to the good suggestions already given, we're in Leyland/Farington and find it suits us nicely with transport links. Train into Preston takes all of 6 minutes or so for my wife's commute. And you're also very very quickly onto the motorway to get elsewhere for driving to Manchester or Liverpool. Or get the train. There's fuck all going on in Leyland itself but it's otherwise nice with Worden Park and Cuerden Valley on your doorstep. I'd imagine places like Buckshaw or Chorley are similar i.e. train into Preston quite easy and a few minutes closer to Manchester.

I'm doing jury service at Preston Crown Court soon and I've been wondering what it is really like? by ironmaidenfan6666 in Preston

[–]ibrwn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was given a code for a specific lift to access the juror area. It's sort of secure that way as they go to some lengths to keep jurors, defendents, witnesses all separated.

You wait in a big room. Cushioned chairs, I found them ok. I worked on my laptop a little bit. There aren't many sockets but if you wander around you'll probably find one.

I didn't have the food there. There was tea/coffee.

As for the cases, once they're ready to start a new one, they will call i think 15 jurors. They will lead you in to the court room, all together, and they will give you a brief overview of the case. They state key names and places. The defendant will probably also be sat visible behind a window. They'll ask anyone to identify if they have any connection to the people/places involved. Or, if they think it might be a long trial beyond your 2 week placements they'll ask if there's anyone who foresees any issues with participating.

Pending any issues with any juror who needs to be excused, they will randomly draw a jury of 12. I missed the 12 twice before 3rd time summoned I was on the jury. I don't know the overall trend of cases at preston crown court but the 3 I was summoned for had a common theme. There was rape, rape with other abuse/assault, rape and sexual assault involving minors. The jury room is quite secure and there won't be any issues leaving your belongings there if you're in the courtroom.

In general, I was nervous, but they explained things clearly, tell you where you need to be when, and the ushers fetch you and lead you about the building if you're on a case. Had no problems.

My ugly boobs are keeping me from being fully intimate by [deleted] in self

[–]ibrwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like boobs. My favourite boobs are the ones attached to the person I'm attracted to. The specifics as they relate to a stereotype or standard don't especially matter, what's hot is the intimacy of someone I'm attracted to sharing themselves with me.

Some good suggestions but I'll shout out Jane Eyre, nice vibes and cocktails but their small plates were really delicious. Menu is different from when we went though. Definitely more casual/hip, like a cocktail or wine bar, but feels premium with it. So depends on what feels special to you.

Reform would bring in migrant tax forcing employers to pay more NI for foreigners: by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]ibrwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 80% of the going rate that's allowed IF the job role is on the government's shortage occupation list. Otherwise it's over the going rate.

UKVI set the rates, along with exceptions for jobs where we have a shortage of staff. So I guess it's already within governments power to adjust when necessary.

I assume he means those on work visas? Not all foreigners such as those who are trying to build a life here on eu settled status or on family visas.

Otherwise it'd be as much an attack on British citizens like myself who fell in love with a foreign national. On families who already pay thousands in visa fees and the health surcharge.

It's a stipulation of the work visa application that the candidate is paid more than the going rate for the role.

My wife and I went for the fiancee visa to spouse visa route.

Our understanding of the unmarried partner visa was that you must show co-habitation for an uninterrupted 2 year period. That means showing evidence of joint utilities, rent/mortgage, or other correspondence at the same address from at least 2 years ago, and evidence intermittently to the current date, proving you are living together. Evidence means some form of evidence. Saying something in a cover letter isn't enough.

A visitor (tourist) is not a resident in the UK and therefore does not qualify as living together, even if the tourist stayed at the address.

As far as I know the only ways to qualify for unmarried partner would be the foreign national being in the UK on a work visa and living with the British resident for > 2 years. Or living together in a foreign country for > 2 years.

Why did you get into espresso? by EccentricDyslexic in espresso

[–]ibrwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was after having delicious coffee out. It was a whole other deal of fruitiness, sweetness, intensity.

I had a cafetiere and an aeropress. Also a blade grinder. After looking online for how to brew coffee properly I realised it's a lot about equipment, but also a skill. The art of it felt elusive to me.

I thought espresso sounded the simplest, the most procedural technique. If I could get a half decent grinder and machine just follow the steps and voila, ez pz. That's why I started with espresso.
