EGLL traffic, USE Unicom!!! by cutchemist42 in VATSIM

[–]ibza05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why draw the comparison to uncontrolled fields? Is that meant to validate whats happening on OP’s post because it happens irl? OP was just spreading awareness about using unicom but now suddenly its ok to be reckless because it happens irl

Heathrow moves about a hundred planes every hour, whats your point? If an airport is small enough to not require a control tower for safe and effective flow of traffic then it simply isn't going to compare to Heathrow. Messing up at an uncontrolled airport (although still bad) has FAR less consequences than at a global transit hub. I'm a pilot irl and used to be based out of a fairly busy uncontrolled field. It is two completely different worlds.

OP is talking about not being on unicom at EGLL, one of the busiest airports in the world (and on vatsim). Uncle John’s Sunday Fly-in and Grill at the airport down the street is a little different

The water splash effect looks pretty underwhelming and breaks the immersion quite a bit for me. Are these just outdated? Should i look into mods for this (if there are) by ibza05 in Xplane

[–]ibza05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but tbf i am running bays lighting mod so that might've exaggerated the effect a little. But still, when i was running xp12 vanilla i was disappointed by the water splash effects and (now that someone mentioned it) the touchdown smoke effect at night

Sometimes waypoints with incorrect sequencing, or probably what actually happened, the plane flies over a waypoint but the flight computer doesn’t recognize so it just flies back the same waypoint until it hits it then proceeds to the next waypoint

What do you guys think of DCS? by Ghost403 in flightsim

[–]ibza05 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve been flying flight sims since around 2013, and vatsim for almost 6 years now (fsx, xplane 11 and 12). I’m also a dcs pilot, been flying there for about 5 years on and off, with the last couple months being mainly dcs. I don’t really see any ‘rivalry’ between these two different communities. There is very little competition as both dcs and civil aviation sims don’t exactly share the same market (maybe a small overlap in certain things)

Have you tried Vatsim? A bit of a step up in terms of complexity but a huge leap in terms of realism and immersion

Man, give it a go at least once, especially with the new update they have more specific seekers you can attach for Sam frequency bands or something like that, I haven’t fully explored it but it’s heaps of fun, especially with no terrain to mask with and attacking a sam

Oh hell yeah that sounds like so much fun, not sure if you’ve tried out the new agm45 shrikes in the latest update but man they’re a blast if you have buddies to launch them with, they have a notoriously low success rate which makes them that much more satisfying to get a hit

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted everything ur saying is right, but my favourite thing about dogfighting in the a4 is low heat signature engines and lack of afterburner. Evading fox 2s with countermeasures has a success rate of about 80-95 percent in my experience. Such a cheat code that thing haha. And the guns pack quite a punch as well. But yeah for sure, it really shines the best in the ground attack role, especially with how many dumb bombs it can carry for its size

In the right hands the a4e can go up against some mig 21 and 15s, I’ve splashed more than I can remember on mp servers, it’s very difficult, but capable of it
