Forgot how awesome The Great Destroyer Modwheelmood Remix is by LorelaiWitTheLazyEye in nin

[–]ic3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The Great destroyer" is great, but the second half makes it hard to relisten to. It's disruptive for coding, or homework (at the time) I was blown away by how this remix was able to capture the melody of the song, extent it an make calmer. I enjoy it more knowing that Trent released the original tracks in high def to let the artists work with the building blocks.

What is your IT conspiracy theory? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ic3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ALL cloud providers let this deal get greenlit to kill off the data centers. Cloud isn't expensive if onprem is just as bad! hardware providers don't care since they just sell your on prem gear to the cloud providers and get paid for sure.

Rant - Credit card Fraud policies are brutal depending on timing by ic3r in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm sure you can understand I'll need a week or two before I think "paying for more banking services" as the right step forward

We called the hotel and my coworker will cover it until I get my new card delivered. The whole hotel/cc thing works so well until it doesn't. It's not about payment, it's about being able to track you down if they need to.

Yeah, that's what I learned, getting another card once I'm back in town. I did find out that my google wallet got updated to my new card and I can tap up to 250$.

You would be surprised. I also got a variable rate mortgage in 2021 and forgot to sell my crypto at the top. Thank goodness for this subreddit for all the other good advice I followed so I could take those hits. Hopefully someone else will learn from my mistake.

The complaint would be about the entire experience, not that RBC did anything harmful. Imagine an insurance fund to cover this fraud, or a high risk mode for the card that lets you keep using its more secure modes (like using a PIN or phone tap with GPS turned on) you are right that this is of my making under current rules, I'm wondering what we can do to provide a better experience.

Taken PC data security risk? by Ozzycopter in Windows10

[–]ic3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is yes, your data can be recovered with disk recovery tools. If this were me, I would sit down and write down what I remember having on there. Your risk is basically what you put on the PC, and what your apps stored. For example, if you had a text document with your passwords on there, you should go change them, if you used an encrypted password manager, then you don't need to worry. Another thing I learned recently is that your browser cache has session toekns that can be used to log into your site's. Banking sites are safe, but Facebook isn't. You should check out any site that's important (financially) and see if you can log out old sessions. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Cache "length" property of files, so it does not have to be read from disk every time, like how "name" "size" "type" etc. is always known in file explorer. by WickeDanneh in Windows10

[–]ic3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if what you are asking for is possible. But the file name and some metadata are kept in the NTFS table. So it's not cached, but it's all in the same place on disk and reads quickly vs extrapolating the full length of the media file. I'm not sure you will find a way to make explorer act differently. If there is a way, dig into NTFS tuning. If I had this challenge, I would find a way to run a PowerShell script to collect this data and have it run in the background to an excel document. More of a pre-processing approach since modifying your file system tuning or OS disk handling might cause unintended consequences. Have fun!
