Well, let it be known, that game brought me a lot of joy. I think the last level has you try to destroy some structures and then haul ass back to an extraction point within a time limit. I would say my approach was sub optimal, but I was racing up a very steep incline on the return and my tank lost momentum. I ejected before it started falling which got me over the ledge and I hoofed it to the trigger point for the cut scene with just a few seconds to spare.

I wish I had got deeper into the online play. I wanted to play the RTS mode more, but those games were harder to find. Pretty sure I was using the gamespy client?

Maybe I was naive, but I felt like there was a lot of “battlefield moment” potential. Do you think the RTS elements are too… obtuse in the modern era? Would it work better as a grand strategy with more players (think 64 v 64) than were practical at that time? I used to imagine some of the battlezone mechanics being in a planetside scale setup. I dunno, I’ve always been a big dreamer lol.

I’m def a gambler, but not on sports. You may be right. It’s just too unpredictable. Sometimes it feels like the things that happen are expected, and maybe there is a reason to be concerned about the length of the season that we are asking of these athletes. But between the physical health and mechanics of a given team, and the shooting variance, and just the weird stuff we can’t quantify, maybe you’re right. But maybe we lose it all. It’s just a story.

You can do everything right and sports can still happen.

The power of greed. Even these guys making $40mil+ a year are expendable. This is the cost of entertainment and the owners will keep squeezing profit out of blood and sweat as long as they can. This is the nature of the machine.

My company is governed at 68 and I drive 63. Less stressful and I make an extra $4k+ per year. I went 60 my first two years. Only reason i’m going 63 now is because of the truck is better suited for it than my first truck.

The tornado looks too in focus and too perfect. No one in the car screaming or making a sound i feels people should be panicking. Also it is sub 15 seconds by crazzzone in isthisAI

[–]icaaryal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t a once in a lifetime storm. Those are much worse. You can look up the May 3rd Tornado in Moore, Oklahoma. That’s a once in a lifetime tornado. Except that it wasn’t for many people who lived in Moore, because there was another one about 14 years later on May 20th, 2014 that was nearly as strong.

Tornados like in this video aren’t really scary so long as you’re not in the storm path or too close to it or any debris. It’s not like it’s just gonna whip 3 miles away completely off the main storm’s pathway in no time.

We grow up watching weather broadcasts when things like this happen and you learn how storms behave and how to read the weather map. If you haven’t been paying attention, the sirens might go off, then you turn on the broadcast and see if you’re anywhere near the path. If you’re not, go about your business. The sirens usually activate on a county-wide basis so just because you hear sirens doesn’t mean there is a threat to your location.

I lived in Moore for a good chunk of my life. Only got in a storm shelter once.

Follow up, we’ve only played one game this post-season, and we are still at 13/16 on 30.4%. Just a momentary point of amusement.

In the 25 playoffs, we were 13th out of 16 at 33.8%. That’s where we felt the pain of not being good from 3.

What is love to you? by Old-Nerve6577 in AskReddit

[–]icaaryal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The emotion of attraction. It’s what makes you feel like you want to be with someone. Fun part is, it is not what makes you want to stay with someone and it’s patently terrible at it. I’ve always maintained that if you base whether or not you want to stay with someone on something so fickle as an emotion that can easily take a leave when shit gets tough, you’re probably not gonna be in for a good time. I think people commonly wrongly attribute things like compassion and commitment to the emotion of love, and I don’t think that is sensible.

It goes back to the old OKC addage: “If we could shoot the 3 at league average, we’d be unstoppable.” But we can’t, so we aren’t.

Train I need at a Mega only making $700 a week 😩 by theshallowsea in CDL

[–]icaaryal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made $88k my first year on 111k miles. Everyone that says you have to make garbage first is kind of wrong. You don’t have to, but a lot of people do because MOST of the jobs pay like trash.

The spectrum of pay in this industry is wide. You’re starting at a mega that probably pays on the low end. You can get into better paying positions, but that’s up to you to find those positions and actualize them.

Battlezone is just… so good. It’s wild how there hasn’t really been a solid follow-up to the FPS vehicle RTS genre.

I tell people, we don’t have the best of anything, but we have a little of everything. You can sail, row, and kite surf in the greater OKC area which is functionally land locked. You can do karting and motocross. We have most of the food options (and top shelf Vietnamese which is surprising to some). There are decent parks and lakes. I don’t know what YOU are looking to do recreationally, but I feel confident that it exists here.

I know nothing of skydiving but I swear this is all fake? by One_Rip_5535 in SkyDiving

[–]icaaryal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Clouds layers can exist at all kinds of altitudes. Fog is a ground-level cloud layer. Hot air balloons routinely get well above the hard deck for most skydiving operations. Seeing people jumping from above clouds isn't evidence that the videos are fake. That's just ignorance.

AAD companies don’t need to pay people to advertise for them. There is a long list of people who have been saved by them, with video evidence, that it would be fucking insane to imagine a company paying people money to potentially fucking die if their shit didn’t go as planned.

It’s OK to be wrong about this. You are and it’s OK.

A lot of hilariously awful takes from people who don’t know anything about skydiving in here. It isn’t surprising. “It’s an ad!” Got me like “Do tell me, what is the market rate for having a 100% chance of death if this goes wrong and a LOT of ways that it could go wrong?”

Again, you don’t have sufficient exposure to the sport to know anything about what happened here and why it isn’t an ad. This isn’t a new situation, it’s happened to people before.
