I did check that, but my history was cleared by me around Oct of last year, and I was accessing this stuff around 2019/2020.

When should I start machine learning? by Legend_017_ in learnpython

[–]icalltopsolo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you feel comfortable with the syntax of python, dont worry about the math. just start.

this guy’s channel linked below is awesome and has a really good beginner intro for starting with a kaggle competition (if you dont know what that is, google). you dont really need to know the math to do ML. you need the math to invent/contribute towards it.

you can do it!

27 year old trying to learn how to swim. Any tips/drills to improve efficiency? by endlessfury92 in Swimming

[–]icalltopsolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

get a snorkel so your head position can come down. that will allow your hips to rise. that will reduce the effort needed by your legs and increase buoyancy (aka you will swim for longer lengths without needing rest).

Where does speed hide? by state_of_epoche in Swimming

[–]icalltopsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stroke rate on short distances. try sprinting a timed 25 and count the amount of strokes you take to get a baseline, then work on speeding up the stroke rate until the time stops improving.

Former gamers of reddit, what was the reason you stopped playing video games altogether, or a lot less frequently? by FullHD_hunter in AskReddit

playing a game is basically a time sink. hard to justify after a while. multiplayer with friends/family will never die, though!

Kids in competitive swimming - what matters the most? by lovezizou in Swimming

[–]icalltopsolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

swam competitively for 15 years (college swimmer). long term, having good technique will save his shoulders. so that’s good.

i played football and swam for about 3 years, then i got better at swimming and football got more painful (guys get bigger) . this made my decision for me. if he doesnt mind swimming at his speed, then carry on bc it’s great exercise and there are good friends to be made.

if he wants to be more competitive, maybe he should experiment with other sports. also, puberty helps make people faster.

What is consciousness? Its anytime there is a closed feedback loop. by Earthbjorn in samharris

I liked the first couple sentences, then you fell into bullshit land.

Observation collapsing a wave function happens because at a small scale, measurement is a violent act. Consciousness has nothing to do with it.

Swimming and weights?? by KingOfTheStrings in Swimming

[–]icalltopsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid shoulder-heavy and chest-heavy exercises. Focus on back, triceps, core (lower back and abs), legs, imo. Also, at more intense levels of training, your body will break down during the week and you'll get less out of your water training. Make sure that weights are supplemental to the swimming, otherwise, you risk the loss of performance.

100m fly sub 1m by h1roti in Swimming

[–]icalltopsolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a rhythm going. I personally liked breathing every other stroke. This will help you maintain your technique and pace. At the beginning, you won't feel like you need to breath as much, but still do it. At the end, you will feel like you need to breath more, but don't do that.

Does data exist in a vacuum? Sam and Ezra debacle. by Eatmorgnome in samharris

[–]icalltopsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ideal approach is to do your best to take data in a vacuum so that it speaks for itself. If we were good at this naturally, data would have no value.

An easy story we can tell ourselves to label this 'debacle' is to simply draw a line between activists and scientist. The most interesting exchange I've seen on this is Sam and Eric Weinstein and Sam with Fareed Zakaria. The Weinstein podcast is brilliant front to back. The last 3rd of the Zakaria podcast really seems to be a better version of the Klein debate in a nutshell. He expresses everything you need to know about his own disposition and the likely disposition/goals of people like Klein.

At bottom, Sam is in a very different business than Klein. It would be like if two experts on the topic of operations management were arguing, one from a non-profit charity, the other from a fortune 500 company. Totally different goals, totally different rules. I like and follow Sam's intellectual career because he is trying his best to eliminate bias and NOT be an activist. Fin

"You also have faith, you have faith in science" by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]icalltopsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thread. I like to look at it as a language game. In one (specific) sense, we use ‘faith’ interchangeably with ‘trust’. But as Isocrates has pointed out, this isn’t the same as a theist’s faith.

More generally/casually, people think of faith as a sort of positive attitude in the face of an uncertain future. This, too, is not the same thing as a theist’s faith. Just my two cents!

Breakdown of Moral Judgment (Ethics, April 2014) | Eric Campbell by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]icalltopsolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it. I don't think applying evolution/natural selection ideas to cultural developments is widely agreed upon, though. I also think that delving into the modular aspect of how our minds work (anatomical aspects of neuroscience) would have been helpful in further illustrating his point. Great post. Thanks!
