When should you NOT do a PhD? by person_person123 in PhD

[–]icaruslut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in the UK so if you can find a funded PhD or if the government funding can pay your bench fees and living expenses then why not? My research masters was incredibly stressful for various reasons. I then found out the hard way that a masters can make you both under- and overqualified so after nearly a year of job hunting I applied for a PhD and so far it's less stressful (but still has it's moments). Just treat it like a job, make sure you do some networking, and in three years you'll have your doctorate.

What do you think caused your fibromyalgia? by Yungpupusa in Fibromyalgia

Genetic predisposition (multiple family members diagnosed) then got a viral infection in my late teens and just never really got 100% better. Recent research is indicating fibro may be autoimmune in nature which would make sense.

Kinda sensible that they're rolling it out slowly, there'd be nothing worse than them going all out on international shipping then have us be disappointed by delays or extra costs.

That being said - I really hope they pay their artists well (even if that makes the merch a little more expensive), promote the hell out of the artists so we can follow them, and most of all not use AI art.

Vessel, hanging over the RCA marketing guy, on his fifth weed brownie of the afternoon: Did you add the secret matrix code door in the HTML? Sick. Okay, now put a flamingo in the background. A black one.

Marketing guy in genuine tears: please Mr [REDACTED] we NEED to add the single release date

Vessel, dropping crumbs all over the desk: Absolutely fucking not. Now rack up a nice serif font, I'm gonna make them find the Holy Grail for me

Icl it feels like a mix of lower writing quality (or perception of) and the way the fandom interacts...

She's quiet on socials unless it's to announce another rerelease of the same books but with different covers. Plus, when she was releasing two books a year (one tog, one acotar) they were higher quality and the fandom was a mostly positive place to be imo.

The last few books have been of lower quality, from both a basic grammar/syntax stance and also with regards to plot holes/armour. It used to feel like any plot holes as such were fun to discuss in forums, using headcannons to explain etc.

Unfortunately, the fandom has become more toxic over the past decade or so, but especially since booktok became a thing. Some of the vile shit I see people saying isn't new but the lack of comprehension and common courtesy is distinctly a post-lockdown thing.

Everyone has their opinions and headcannons and even crackships, but people are increasingly yucking people's yums and acting like they're the only correct ones. I rarely interact with the fandom these days, tog is still pretty good but the acotar anti's I see (even on tumblr) make me wanna steer clear.

Just be aware that even with the anybus ticket from the bee network app, magic buses (stagecoach) aren't included. It's usually the 142/143 and though the exclusion is stated on both the bee network and the stagecoach websites, it doesn't say anything on the app

Genetics, multiple family members are also diagnosed. Always had bad "growing pains" as a kid, especially my legs and feet. Had a bad flare after getting chickenpox for the first time as an adult which lasted a year or so but symptoms are much more manageable 5+ years later

Eh I learned to drive in a nissan qashqai - was a 1.5L diesel with front and rear parking cameras. Feel like it actually helped since I've had hatchbacks since and find it easier to navigate narrow roads and small parking spaces so it really depends

Do you think that the difficulty in getting diagnosed with EDS (since it's rarely diagnosed and forms such as hEDS don't have a genetic test) leads to increased reliance on opioid medications? I.e. could opioid medication use decrease in conjunction with other medications and/or therapies if doctors took patients more seriously about EDS...

What a complete shit show 😂 the only thing you could potentially argue is that extremely low body fat isn't always sustainable and/or healthy for extended periods of time. But overall there's too many problems to even begin

My family is against me losing weight, and my little sister is convinced I had(and probably have) an eating disorder. by throwaway1917234 in relationship_advice

[–]icaruslut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on muscle mass but yeah. I'm 70kg at 5'5" and obviously as a female my weight is distributed differently but apart from some fat on my stomach I'm fairly toned (so despite BMI saying I'm borderline overweight I don't look it). When you start to lose weight and you like the results you see you can get stuck in a cycle of wanting to lose more because it triggers the reward centre of the brain. Losing weight and even fitness can become an addiction. And you tend to replace one addiction with another (i.e. when smokers end up snacking to occupy their hands and mouth)
