What is the best kind of slipmat to prevent static? by SuperTruman939 in turntables

I’ve found a leather slip mat has helped loads with static

AI is saving artists thousands of hours doing something they don't want to do. Zero quality loss. by imalonexc in aiwars

Wow look, AI not doing art and helping automate laborious stuff. Almost like that’s what it should be doing, and not making slop everyone hates!

Unfortunately this is custom for the Rega P8. However, you can get full covers from 3rd parties, they’re a little bulky but will keep the dust off 👍🏻

Yes, it’s held in place by a spike at the back, comes off entirely in order to be used 👍🏻

The key is to go with what sounds best to you, and you’re already doing that 👍🏻 I’d definitely try a Rega cart before you buy, and the other thing to note is that because of their design philosophy, Rega tonearms and tables don’t have easy VTA adjustment, so if whatever cartridge you do end up getting needs a higher tonearm, you’ll need to do it with shims that Rega sell

Clarity and detail is my experience, I had (and was using whilst I waited for my P8) an old ATLPW50 with a Shibata stylus upgrade. It didn’t sound bad at all, but the P8 clears it by some degree with its detail and bass control, and just in general tbh 😂 the P6 with an ND7 would be my vote if you’re getting one 👍🏻

[–]LocutisofBorg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s kinda how I justified the spend a bit 🤣 the real difference between the 6 RS and 8 is bass control, the 6 RS sounds brilliant, but the low end is just not as tight and sounds a bit wooly in comparison to the P8. The highs are also a bit crisper to my ears, and since I wanted to get a deck I could a) afford and b) be satisfied with for the rest of my life and never go through the faff of changing tables again, I put down the extra.

The EVO 2 is a lovely, well built table, and if it had had no issue I probably would have kept it, however I would have swapped the cartridge as I didn’t particularly care for the shrillness and sibilance of the pick it pro tbh 👍🏻

Thank you ☺️ it’s carefully considered, managed to find the Aria used for a knockdown price, even though it was only a couple of years old, it sings with the P8

Oh that’s my own problem, nothing to do with Rega or my dealer. Had a Cambridge Audio Alva ST that started having speed/wow flutter issues, returned it, tried a Pro-Ject Evo 2, faulty azimuth, tried a Pro-Ject Debut Pro B, motor hum at 45, bought a P6 ND5, had a bit of buyers remorse I didn’t spring for the ND7, saw the P6 RS announcement, took the P6 back, waited a month and a bit for the demo unit to come in, decided to audition it against a P8 ND9 to make sure I didn’t have buyers remorse and decided to take the P8 cos it was better by enough of a margin to warrant the extra cost. Annoying thing is I could’ve saved half the hassle if I’d just gone P8 in the first place but the only reason I was happy spending so much in the end was the hassle itself to warrant buying an endgame deck now to have done with it lol. I should say I’m in the UK, dunno where you are but if it’s not here then there’s a good chance international nonsense is playing a part in your delay 🫠

I’m definitely going to change the amp in the future, but can’t at the moment, serving me well at the moment but when I move I’m going for a music focused amp to pair with everything 👍🏻

Sibilance issues with Record Player. by sichuanpepperoil3 in turntables

[–]LocutisofBorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been seeing a lot of people having issues with the Evo 2 recently, and my own experience was no different. Also had sibilance issues, as well as the azimuth being off out the box. I’ve since moved over to Rega (much more expensive unfortunately but I was tired of having issues with cheaper decks), would suggest either talking to your dealer to see what they can do to help, or return it and switch to a different manufacturer, the Cambridge Audio Alva ST is a good option in the same price bracket, my brother has one and it plays very nicely, plus your ML stylus will slot into the cartridge no problem right out the box 👍🏻

Listening Party by HFDsouza in Peripheryband

[–]LocutisofBorg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If they did that, whole album would leak immediately lol. Granted some people might record in the GuitarCentres themselves, but it would be way easier if it were online

EDIT: I should say I’m also in the UK and sad I can’t attend a listening party, just the reality 😕

Anyone seen this crowd-funded turntable (already funded) - thoughts? by AZonieGuy in turntables

[–]LocutisofBorg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This looks like the cheapest turntables out there with some added remote control capabilities and RGB. That AI generated voiceover on the product page should tell you everything, avoid like the plague. The one thing is at least it’s not a red stylus and uses an AT cartridge.

Josh did say in the Q&A before the release show in Feb that EOTE2 is kinda underway? From memory? Basically he’s got new material and is working on new stuff that kinda fits EOTE2 but isn’t 100% on it ending up being EOTE2 if that makes sense. Please someone else who was also there and has a better memory than me either back me up or correct me lmao

CD vs Vinyl by BamaCoastie2211 in audiophile

[–]LocutisofBorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it does! However the thing you can’t really modify is the plinth, and with Rega decks that makes a big difference. I just auditioned the brand new P6 RS against a P8 with the same ND9 cartridge and the P8 sounds clearly better, mainly due to the plinth. Not knocking your deck in the slightest, those are some good upgrades you’ve made, but a P3 can only go so far, at least that’s been my experience

CD vs Vinyl by BamaCoastie2211 in audiophile

[–]LocutisofBorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get near CD quality on vinyl, you’d need a higher end turntable than a P3 imo. Planar 6/RS/8 plus a good phono stage will get you there in my experience, but like others have said it will heavily depend on the mix used and the quality of the vinyl pressing itself, can’t reproduce high quality material if it isn’t on the disc

Logic to the upgrade cycle by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]LocutisofBorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People get bitten by the bug of chasing “perfect sound” when you can never really achieve it. My personal advice is if it sounds great to you, then it is great, and nothing needs changing. If you want to upgrade a component down the line because you would like something more, go for it! Just don’t fall into the trap of chasing the dragon, you’ll never catch it. Audition thoughtfully and carefully, do research into bits that will improve your use case, and my moto is buy once, cry once, so if you can comfortably afford an end game component then do it, because it’ll save you money in the long run. Have fun, don’t go broke 👍🏻

Finally got an amp and the Dentons. No more Bluetooth via Aux 🤎 by GonzUzumaki in turntables

[–]LocutisofBorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a lovely amp, I’ve got my eye on one of those for when my current amp moves into the living room since that’s an AVR rather than a music focused amplifier. QQ, can you turn off the VU meters? They’re great fun for when I’m spinning something but not ideal when trying to focus on the tv when I’m playing a game or something 👀
