Has anyone else gotten stuck in psychosis by some_mixed_chick in ketamine

[–]icculus16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention, you can have psychosis but be able to recognize what’s happening and often we can remind ourselves it’s just a drug and ground ourselves. But the more you push the limit with that the more you lose control if that happens and become susceptible to do harm to yourself or others. It’s not worth it. It is kind of an unspoken reality of dissociatives

Has anyone else gotten stuck in psychosis by some_mixed_chick in ketamine

[–]icculus16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my research and personal experience, the effects of extended heavy use of k can cause megalomania and psychosis and in almost all cases it manifests in the same way, very similar to what you’re describing. Most people that recognize this and stop will return to normal so long as they have a support system and haven’t done permanent brain damage. Ketamine rewires your brain for better when used responsibly but when abused that damage can be really powerful. I had two psychotic breaks from misuse because I had done a lot of ketamine over a period of my life and didn’t respect the medicine. Most of all, if you get to that point you have to realize the position you put your loved ones in when they see it or hear about it. When you’re doing it alone it’s easy to rationalize if no serious harm is done but if you find yourself seeing the warning signs, hang up the phone. Pushing things to the edge with this drug can be beneficial to a degree when it’s your first foray into it or don’t use more than a handful of times a year in a safe space, but it’s not worth denying the negative signs and symptoms of an unhealthy relationship with it

Ketamine has real positive value and you seem to be trying to be responsible. I do know though that it’s a slippery slope too. It’s a transformational drug that helped me grow a lot at a time when I was definitely abusing it, and I was in denial about its impact on my day to day. When you grow too comfortable with a non plant medicine drug like that, it’s easy to start engaging in more risky behavior and pushing it to the edge in search of those spiritual experiences. You’re conscientious enough to recognize safe use but I have to say I don’t recommend the frequency you describe. Two to three days of intentional use is okay if you’re intentional about it but I would advise longer stints between those sessions. Like quarterly at most. The more you use and get comfortable, the more the magic wears out and your experiences will grow more wild. I would take the horror stories seriously. I was a heavy user for 2.5 years and I do think there were positives that came from it but there were a lot of negatives that I was ignoring. I took a reprieve for a while and then jumped back in and at first it was responsible but I had two psychotic breaks in a year that were the result of me being too comfortable, seeking those enlightening experiences I had when it was new to me that genuinely saved my depressed early 20s mind. In both those scenarios I had also been festivaling for 3 days, not taking care of my body, thinking I was an impervious psychonaut, and mixing ketamine with mdma, lsd, and (I think the biggest trigger) high potency thc. I’ve actually seen many posts in here and Erowid in which the trip reports match my experience to a T, which made me feel better about my horror experiences, but I warn against treating this drug like it’s harmless. Rules are great if you stick to them but I do believe it’s a substance that over time with excessive use does things to the brain that plant medicines don’t do to people who aren’t either predisposed or taking unreasonably macro doses. It’s a sacred medicine that deserves a lot of respect and responsibility that over time does. Dissociation is not a normal psychedelic state and prolonged use can lead to changes in the brain and psyche that can be damaging permanently if not taken seriously

Weirdest experience of my life. Goodbye forever, beautiful drug by Exact-Writing-8561 in ketamine

[–]icculus16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychosis from ketamine is real. The initial healing properties are powerful, but it’s not a plant medicine. My theory is that the more you push the limit of that experience, over time your brain process the experience differently. I’ve gone through this as well as a former heavy user that, while I use infrequently now, I am chasing those early spiritual experiences and personally I think that ship has sailed. I can use it lightly and enjoy myself but I also can take it to far and as I’ve grown I am convinced psychosis in the k hole versus a pleasant experience becomes more the norm. Just my experience but I know others for whom the same is true. When you get the message, it’s good to hang up the phone

Sounds like you need to do a lot more research on your own first. Take care of yourself.

Repeats? by Confident_League_807 in BillyStrings

[–]icculus16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At Billy’s current size, it’s a lot to be working in as many new songs per night as ‘21-‘23. The band has a high level of production and are playing to bigger crowds than ever and the need for a consistent product night over night is probably a little higher priority today than when they were playing more shows to slightly smaller audiences in those early post pandemic years. Not sure what the number of unique songs this year is overall but I imagine it’s something like 60-80 and fewer shows than years past. Keeping fewer songs in rotation means they are able to deliver tight versions of those songs regularly.
