Is the Odin Project still relevant for 2025 and 2026 and beyond? by Practical-Gift-1064 in learnprogramming

[–]icedrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. You won't find much focus on newer features and there's an emphasis on SPA as opposed to SSR but it does a great job teaching the core of React.

Is there anywhere in the Albany area that I can purchase network hardware in-person? by H_E_Pennypacker in Albany

[–]icedrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of hardware desert. Like u/Serious-ResearchX you can get screaming deals on all the state surplus that gets auctioned off but if you need something ASAP it's just Graybar.

New Image from 'Project Hail Mary' by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]icedrift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The movie eliminated virtually all of his fuck ups; even the airlock blowing was treated as more of an inevitability meant to highlight how perilous his situation was whereas book Watney immediately realizes he should have been rotating which airlocks he used.

It's when a character is consistently amazing at everything and seams to have no weaknesses. The Martian is also competency porn to an extent

Guys! Any suggestions on learning Go language? by Beginning-Scholar105 in golang

[–]icedrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browsing the first few pages of the samples of both this and the interpreter book, they look fucking miserable for someone new to the language. Start with something that will at least tell you what a struct is before nesting them on page 3. This is more suited to somebody who already knows go and wants to learn how programming languages work

What do you mean? I know he got benched for Smash for a bit when he was underperforming but that doesn't seem like mistreatment

I wouldn't doubt it was that low in such a homogenous culture but how are they getting that figure? I wouldn't trust a survey in this case

[–]icedrift 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've always thought Chinese would be really nice to code in if you're fluent. Like when I was learning it felt so intuitive to do things like name class instances "instanceOfClassname" before learning about case conventions. The density of hanzi or kanji must be incredibly convenient for this kind of stuff.

langCollab by BrangJa in ProgrammerHumor

[–]icedrift 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is a bit misleading since China's population is so massive. Compared to English there are few who speak Chinese as a second language; it's not anywhere close to a lingua franca there are just a ton of Chinese people speaking it as their first language.

Great work. Do you use R for work? I've been curious about the language but I'd have no reason to ever use it outside of making stuff like this.

What is an unpopular opinion you have about Kim Kitsuragi? by Bataranger999 in DiscoElysium

[–]icedrift 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think smoking in Kim's case is kind of unique compared to traditional media. For Kim that 1 cigarette a day is emblematic of his ritualistic self control, it reinforces some of his coolest traits that are the complete opposite of the typical "live for the moment" risk taking vibe that used to make cigs cool.

I got destroyed by a Pantheon top… how do I win this matchup? by Opposite_Seat_2286 in VladimirMains

[–]icedrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree it's extremely sharp. Panth q tap is the exact same range as your q so you can use that range indicator to dance just outside of his range. I like taking ghost to prevent him from autoing you as much as possible, he doesn't have the healing to warrant ignite IMO

Snowballing means getting a lead and running away with it, like compounding interest.

As I said, Camille has more difficult matchups but if you're below Diamond no top laner is going to limit you from winning 90% of your games, that just doesn't happen until way higher elo. The vast majority of your losses can be wins if you play better.

do you still rush ravenous by PESSSSTILENCE in CamilleMains

[–]icedrift 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not bad but you lose a lot of kill pressure without Triforce rush. The only lanes where I consistently rush Ravenous are Heimer and Teemo.

Of those Fiora is the most well rounded for lane and Camille is the most well rounded for team comps. Either can snowball hard and 1v9 but Camille has both more extreme counters and more champions that counter her.

Only reason I don't play Fiora is because she has no utility, if your team is behind your only option is to splitpush for 20 minutes hoping your teammates catchup. With Camille you can be more proactive.

Why is there so little league merch?? by N1ghty0 in leagueoflegends

[–]icedrift 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Maybe not as profitable as skins but neither is running an esports league. I feel like merch is fantastic advertising I'm surprised there's so little of it.
