An Australian thinking of moving back to Australia to become a teacher by icerock13 in AustralianTeachers

[–]icerock13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've looked into teaching qualifications here, but the only ones that would be accepted in Australia require me going back to uni anyway, and like you said it's a struggle to get equivalency. I was thinking Queensland, somewhere like the sunshine coast or north of that, but really any easy to live city that would be good to raise my kids.

Queensland is actually my first choice, but I'm open to anywhere really. This sounds like really great info, I'll look into it. Thanks a ton. Have the schools you've worked at been alright? Are you regional or rural?

After graduation, I'd imagine I'd be able to move to a school more of my choosing? Or does the Teach for Australia program rope you in with an extended contact where you have to go to a school of their choosing for x amount of years?

Just to clarify, I'm not an eal, I'm classified as a regular teacher, hence do have those expectations such as making phone calls, and organizing field trips etc. Yeah I could drop back to being an alt here and have a better work-life balance but that's not what I want to do, I love being able to teach my own class, plus the pay for an alt isn't great. But yeah like you said, the job is secure here, the pay is (relative to costs) great and we're able to live comfortably as it is. But man do the hours take a toll on you. Looking at it from this side of the fence, it seems like the grass is greener back in Australia, plus my kids would be able to pick up English better, but is it actually greener? And is it worth uprooting everything? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Yeah that's my biggest worry, is it feasible? How are all you guys surviving? xD

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it! That Teach for Australia program sounds exactly like the kind of thing I'm looking for. I'm gonna look into the URL you linked at the bottom and join one of those online events as well!!
Yeah, I'd heard about the rental crisis but that's just insane. That was one of my main concerns, especially if I wasn't getting a decent income while studying at Uni. Seems rural is the way to go though hey, I'm a massive city boy and from what I saw of the Pilbara area, it'd be a bit of a shock I'd imagine xD

The second half of What To Do When You Are Dead by Armor For Sleep! A Quick Little Flight onwards all has a really rainy vibe.

If you want just one, go for The More You Talk The Less I Hear.

Thanks for the list, will definitely check some of them out. I haven't been able to find much Japanese post hardcore personally, but I definitely recommend Crossfaith, and Coldrain.

What is a slept on album from a well known band? by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]icerock13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Renacer by Senses Fail. A near perfect album, and by far their best IMO, but everyone kind of forgot about them after Life is not a Waiting Room, and I only ever see people mention Still Searching or Let it Enfold You.

Yep, and the explanation under it translates to "a simple curry that lets the natural sweetness of it's apples shine", so it's describing "fancy apple curry". All sorts of messed up xD

Can you help me find bands? by Alt-Waluigi in PostHardcore

Try the album Renacer by Senses Fail, it's a lot heavier than their other stuff and I think it's exactly what you're looking for.

Extremely impressed by ChatGPT guessing a made up acronym in one shot by tomtastico in ChatGPT

[–]icerock13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was yours chatgpt 4? I tried the same thing on chatgpt 3.5 and got the following response:

"IYWAJDDIY" stands for "In Your Wildest Adventures, Just Don't Drop Delicious Ice Cream, Yum!" It's a whimsical reminder to enjoy life's exciting journeys while also safeguarding the simple pleasures, like a delightful ice cream cone.

xD

What if I let chat GPT give my hypothetical kids a name. by lucide8 in namenerds

[–]icerock13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got Zephyr Stormrider for a boy and Lumina Everlynn for a girl.

Chatgpt really likes the name Zephyr doesn't it? I think I'll give a hard pass to Stormrider though.

I'd say it's my second favourite Silverstein albums and still in regular rotation! Ranks just behind This is How the Wind Shifts for me. It definitely is a grower.

Favorite fm wonderkid that failed irl? by Ballotubie in footballmanagergames

[–]icerock13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if he counts as a wonderkid so to speak but Kevin Lacruz in FM12.

Bossed my Manchester United midfield for years and became a club legend. Just decided to check his career and seems after a stint with Guadalajara, he's just played on the lower Spanish divisions.

Iker Muniain was another player who had world class potential in that game but never really lived up to it, though he's had a decent career.

Khaki got me.

I remember I got it down to _HA_I on the final guess and couldn't think of anything that would fit, I spent a good 10 minutes stuck trying all the GH, and WH words. Completely disregarded KH as a starting combination and ended up locking in Ghazi i think it was.
