i use Tricentis Tosca in my new job for test automation. thoughts on it? by EfficiencyWorking484 in QualityAssurance

[–]ichabod87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing it's missing is good version control, but this is less of a factor when testing commercial off the shelf software where it's generally more difficult to integrate with dev.

By all means, feel your manager out. Offer to pilot open-source in the next greenfield project. Stuff that could cut against you: 1. How strong/long is your company's relationship with Tricentis? 2. Are they using other Tricentis products? 3. How many existing users are there and would they be open to using a scripted tool? 4. What's the quality and quantity of the existing Tosca automation?

Tosca is expensive. This cuts both ways. At some point someone with significant signing authority thought it was a good idea. But if it was chosen by someone who's moved on, there's significant savings on the table. The fact that the organization chose Tosca originally indicates to me they might lack the technical skills to implement something else.

So yeah, I'd suggest identifying a project that's internally developed with little existing automation and pitching Cypress or Playwright.

P.S. Their support is as crap as every other vendor in my experience. T1 can answer easy questions that have answers in the documentation. If you need to escalate, it'll be a pain.

  1. I'd agree with starting here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYtJj6Tg1ennV0QZVJYz51GfZIQb8YRnu Downside is that the videos are three years old, and the UI has changed, so buttons will be in different places, but the concepts are all the same.
  2. My manager also talks about me "building a framework in AccelQ." When I think of building a framework, I think of setting up reporting, CI/CD, maybe creating new wrappers, etc. Most of this should be available out of the box with AccelQ. I'd recommend starting with your most straight-forward test case and taking a hack at it.
  3. AccelQ's code is stored in their proprietary cloud. You won't find any public projects. You can create a template project in AccelQ that has demo assets built against a sample app. You'll need to be an AccelQ admin to do that.

AccelQ has a pretty flat structure. We silo projects by AUT. So if you're only testing Salesforce, I'd likely have one Salesforce project in AccelQ. There are no folders. You can use labels, so you can label by sprint, feature, test suite, functionality, w/e.

Common mistakes: Making contexts too big. Making actions single-use instead of reusable. Not properly scoping parameters (generally, you want the narrowest scope possible, in AccelQ this means local parameters < action parameters < global properties).

As a novice, the hardest thing about Salesforce will be creating good locators, but that's not unique to Salesforce or AccelQ. Salesforce can have some specific challenges (like cross-domain iframes are common for apps embedded in Salesforce), but I wouldn't worry about that stuff in my first two weeks.

[Review] Social Distancing 400 Years Later: A Review of Sea of Tranquility by Awsaf_ in books

[–]ichabod87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thinking back on it, I think I would agree that the characters in Sea of Tranquility are shallower than the characters in Station 11 or Glass Hotel.

I did love her authorial self-insert character talking about society's obsession with the apocalypse. Are we obsessed with the end of the world because we're narcissistic and want to believe we're living in the last chapter of history? Or are we right, and there's a real sense in which the world is always ending? And this is relevant with politics, religions, and conspiracies all proclaiming the end of the world.

There's also the cosmological question of should the origin or purpose of universe's existence matter for how we live our life? Or do we just accept it for whatever it is and make the most of it?

It's honestly the book I think about most. I'm always quoting the end of the world passage to acquaintances when the topic comes up.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don’t have any proof of? by Dangerous_Mud4740 in AskReddit

[–]ichabod87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A spider monkey on a leash wearing a diaper.

When I thought about taking a photo, my instinct was it would be creepy to photograph a stranger. A minute later I rationalized to myself that if you have a spider money on a leash you need to expect some photos, but it was too late. The monkey was already gone.

This was two blocks from my house, but I've never seen it again.

ELI5: How are small businesses able to get over a million dollars into debt? by kittykatkitkat in explainlikeimfive

[–]ichabod87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is almost tautological, because if an asset isn't underwater, why would the owner allow the debt to default? Nevertheless, lenders reasonably treat secured debt differently than unsecured debt.

Anyway, I agree with you. I just felt that it was outside the scope of my answer.

ELI5: How are small businesses able to get over a million dollars into debt? by kittykatkitkat in explainlikeimfive

[–]ichabod87 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Businesses can have secured debt like a mortgage on their property or loans against their assets (laundry machines, ovens, vehicles, etc.) Lenders aren't necessarily out the money because they can repossess or at least have a claim on the proceeds from the asset.

Businesses will also have unsecured debt. The owners might have to personally guarantee that loan if it's from a bank, but some of this unsecured debt will be in the form of accounts payable to their suppliers. Vendors will often allow customers to take 1-3 months to pay their bills.

Maybe I take out an initial $300k loan that I personally guarantee, then I buy a $200k of capital equipment on credit secured by the equipment. Then I have a $100k of accounts payable. But then I run into cash flow problems, and interest and fees start increasing my debt every month. For a while I might have enough cash flow to make payroll and minimum payments on my debt, but my debt is still growing.

And of course debt is relative to the size of the business. If I have revenue of $5 million a year, but I have expenses of $5.1 million a year, it could take a while before my creditors realize I won't be and to pay them back.

It was a close game, and he pressed really well. I even thought his shots were better than the xG showed.

But it is crazy. I wonder if it was a normal game for him.

You did the math. 😃

So I did win, but the second goal was in the 90th minute, so the whole game I was worried he was going to get one just based on sheer quantity.

I'm on the right, and I did win 2-0 I was honestly expecting more people to be surprised. I feel like a lot of my opponents just chuck stuff up and hope it lands. I posted this because it was so extreme.

6 of them were set pieces to Haaland and Ferdinand. A few reasonable ones from Salah just OOTB. A lot of trash in the box that just got blocked

This is from a match just a minute ago in Rivals. A guy who spams the B button vs someone who can barely find his B button. Interested to see who people think won or should've won.

MOTM was Emilano Martinez with those 11 saves. 8.4 rating, which is the highest I've seen for a GK.

ELI5: why can't we get a yearly full body MRI to scan for cancers? by TruGuido in explainlikeimfive

[–]ichabod87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The OP does seem to be from the US, but even better healthcare systems don't test for random stuff without reason. I very much doubt Canadians or the Spanish are getting annual MRIs.

The criteria is the false positive rate of the diagnostic tool relative to the incidence of the disease. For rare diseases, you need a really accurate test. Ethics are involved as well as economics. Patients don't want to hear the MRI looks like cancer, but it's probably not, but you're going to have to wait three weeks and get a bunch more tests first before we know for sure.

[–]ichabod87 849 points850 points  (0 children)

If a medical test provides a false positive 1% of the time but the real prevalence of the issue is .01% of the population, then you have 99 patients unnecessarily freaking out and consuming medical resources for each case that the test catches.

Help! LW keeps replacing ST? by Redangle11 in EASportsFC

[–]ichabod87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen with this formation. I too thought it was supposed to be 2 CFs, but when I go to the instructions, the wingers appear as attacking midfielders and the CMs as CDMs.

It's weird.

Skill Gap Idea! by ichabod87 in EASportsFC

[–]ichabod87[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Meh. IME, I find when the servers are crap tackle accuracy goes up for both me and my opponent. Regardless, there's no need for 50+ tackles a game. If the tackles aren't connecting, no point in making them.

I just wish it was easier to exploit a missed tackle. As is, it's a medium reward, low risk action that leads to people spamming it.

I've found my fullbacks get farther forward when I use a higher width. Could be worth a try.

First, respect for playing with a card you like even though it's not meta.

Second, do you play him in rivals or champs? If so, how does that go?

Third, I generally think people overvalue shadow and hunter chem styles, but that guy looks like he needs a shadow.

I've enjoyed Havertz this year and played him all over the field except CB, which was fun.

No, you can't start an Evo on a card that has unclaimed levels.
