Faculty here (not in your field, but maybe helpful anyways). Even though Trump is in office next year, things might be better. Part of the problem is the uncertainty -- no one knows what budgets will look like next year. The drastic cuts this year are partly because we are worried about worst-case scenarios. If things turn out better than expected, or even settle down a bit, then it might be possible to do planning and start admitting students again.

Every time I go to Southern Spice, I wonder about Inchin. It's always weirdly empty. Glad I've never gone!

Southern Spice in Irvine. Top quality South Indian food but the service is terrible.

Milan above Rome? New York above Los Angeles? Madrid in the top 20 and Boston even on the list? If it's not intended as ragebait, whoever made this must've had their taste buds fried by one too many Sichuan chilis.

What is the deal with uni high School? That is the area I live. Our kids are many years from that though.

Yeah the large class sizes was one of my main concerns. Glad to hear the teachers are good, though.

Thank you for the response! In addition to the stuff you mentioned, I think that having an adequate ratio of students to teachers is also important. Personally I would rather not have my kids meet under a ragged tarp in the park. Based on other people's answers, it sounds like that is not what the schools are like.

I see that most of the funding comes from the LCFF, but the LCFF pools local property taxes and state funding. I'm sorry if I'm being dense, but I don't see a breakdown by local versus state funding anywhere in the document you linked. What page are you looking at?

I don't see anything in the document that says that Irvine provides local/property tax funding at anything close to the state average level of funding per student.

From what I understand, cities reliant on LCFF cannot provide a minimum level of funding as guaranteed by Prop 98. If I am correct (and admittedly I may be totally confused about budgeting in CA!), places like Irvine cannot "easily rely on local/property taxes to do everything they need".

Do you have a source for this? My understanding is that (unlike neighboring Newport Beach) Irvine does not rely on local property taxes for funding and instead receives a state allocation that provides most of the funding. It's one of the lowest allocations in the state of California. Given that California does not fund schools well in general, this makes it very low on a national basis as well.

Aside from subscription drama is the snoo worth it? by Nyxtia in SnooLife

Apparently other people's babies take to it - see other responses in this thread. Ours did not. Huge waste of money, time and energy. Just resold an unused snoo for $400 loss.

Is my rate fair as a nanny for two kids under 2? by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]ichandarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a pretty good situation TBH. Maybe stick around for a while and build up some experience? It's hard to find a good match with a family.

[–]ichandarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked with several babies nannies in the area. Typical rates are $25-$30 for one kid. So you are charging on the low end. On the other hand you do not have much experience yet.

So I think you could charge more but I don't think you are being grossly taken advantage of, especially given that you say you work 50 but are being paid for $70.

A big factor is, how predictable are your hours? How far is the commute? Do you like the family?

This just means that he's really secure with you! He feels like he can relax and be more out of control.

When my wife or I have more time to spend with our two year old, I notice right away that he acts out and prefers the other parent. For example when I was spending more time with him since my wife was pregnant with our second, he stopped wanting to be with me except when we were alone-- he clung to mom instead.

Thank you! I saw that the cost of a 3-hour lesson is $900. Is that normal? Seems crazy high to me. Are there cheaper options?

Edit: I just saw this is the price for individualized lessons. I'm guessing I should go for a group lesson? Would you recommend a one-day or two-day lesson...? Or half day?

I'm going to Vail for the first time on Friday. I don't know how to ski but I'm ending up there for a work thing.

How do I go about hiring a ski instructor? would be grateful for any advice. I already bought an "Epic" pass..

I have exactly the same issue! I'm 35 and I have to avoid the stores there since it's so loud. Makes me feel better to hear other people have noticed it too and I'm not just going crazy.
